Cramped into 10 minutes, i present you an update of my Skyscraper video. A lot has changed in the skyscraper world since April. New stats, new construction photos, and a recession, delaying several projects.
I put quite a bit of effort into eliminating the moire patterns from the 2008 video, the overall image quality greatly improved. However, due to the larger format of my composition (960x720), i couldn't always take the "best" photos, since many come in very small resolution.
If i ever make an update, it'll have to be a two-part video, unless UA-cam changes their policies. So this better stay accurate for a very long time :P
I didn't attempt to include Nakheel Tower and the various Korean supertall projects, as their construction is unpredictably far in the future (~2020), and i didn't have any room left anyway, hah.

Why did I get this on my Recommended list in 2021 lol a lot of these buildings aren’t even build RIP
I was following this series since Skyscrapers 2008 when I was a little kid. Fast forward to today I’m now in my senior year of college still seeing if there’s gonna be a new video; it’s been stuck at Skyscrapers 2012 damn :(

I've always had a major fascination in the building of skyscrapers such as whereabouts they're built in cities and why, what benefits would be involved having it built in this certain location (eg make the overall skyline more appealing); how the new streets/parks around its base could look and where to be placed, ETC.
Ahh i Love it, anyone got any opinions as to what jobs I could consider when im older based on the things I've just stated? :)

This video... Ah... Its so incredibly good. I can't say any flaws that are pointed out. And akm168mm, he means ones that are already started-completed before 2009. This and its prequel are fantastic! I favorited it and it's prequel, and I will hang on to your channel for any other such masterpieces.
The thing is, the Sears (now Willis) Tower's antennas really aren't part of the core structure, they were attached afterwards. That's basically the criterion.
I understand that it looks a bit unfair when compared to a structure like the Petronas Towers with their spires, but i wouldn't rank it 2nd in height either.

9/11 aside, skyscrapers hardly ever bury people under them. They're among the safest structures in cities. A good example is the Taipei 101, which frequently has to endure earthquakes and is safer for the population during that time, than the surrounding buildings.
They're doing soil testing, possibly some piling already, but the foundation alone is said to take three years! So don't get your hopes up.
In a way this is good because the Burj Dubai will hold its deserved crown for a long time.
Yeah, what a cheap move. The Willis Group isn't even the largest occupant of the building, they just bought the naming rights.
I thought about this for some time, and i think i'm gonna keep the old name in my next video.
Piano version, fits the theme better than the more "electric" sounding version from the movie. For me it's the original version though, because i think that's how he composed it.
Full height, but the cladding and interior aren't finished. It's planned to have its "soft-opening" September this year, together with the Dubai Red Line (Metro track).
Except for the Burj Dubai, which should top this month, the last ones are all at ground level (piling/foundation work). The Pentominium will probably be the first to rise.
10 minutes to cramp in the tallest. If i put the limit all the way down to the shard's height, i'd have to cover another 100+ buildings. That's the sad reality.

@SwerveX8 Heh, that's a funny reply. I've responded numerous times on this - towers of any kind are not included, only habitable structures.
@gmkr2 the only reason the U.S isn't putting up a hundred skyscrapers a years is because they happen to be losing 850 billion $ a year because of the recesion. i bet it kills them to know that they're second best. i'm from toronto canada, home to the world's second :( tallest building the CN tower. trust me the second the u.s gets out of their recesion, which probably won't be anytime soon they'll be making tons of skyscrapers (and get themselves in another recesion).
wow i tell u gys the truth. i am an ole chicago boy but deep in my heart i want to see freedom tower be the worlds tallest building. and i know it will be taller than the burj or the spire. that is why they are taking so long so they can see how much more work it will take. new york will do it. its the big apple. i am a bells and whistles guy jist like new york. it will reigh supreme.
You said the 1 World Trade Center, What happend with 2 World Trade Center? Since you said first, its got to be 2 of e them. And why didnt you take with the old world trade center and Empire State Building? Just because The old WTC dont exist, you should have taken it with, because many of the other in the video isnt done yet. But you did not have time. Great video;) But are it coming 2 WTC?
In the coming decades when robotics, AI, materials science, nanotechnology, etc are all much more advanced, we will look back on these buildings just like how we look at the castles of old. Humanity is going to great places as we increasingly share and build technology, business, and art and these buildings in the video are proof. The current economic contraction is negligible if you "zoom-out" and look at how we've progressed in every field.
adrian i over saw 1 of ur comments saying that u might only do buildings that are completed or under construction so that u could keep it under 10 minutes...
I personally like 2 c what the future MIGHT hold (such as the Nakheel (harbour and) Tower) so what if u have a current buildings video and mabye an upcoming buildings video?

most likely because it technically is not a "building" per se. It's sheer height is astonishing, but it doesnt have the bulk like other supertalls. I mean, even the KLVY mast in North Dakota is 2000 feet tall, but no1 cares or meantions that, cuz its a freakin radio tower.
hey chicago people you have the tallest skyscrapers in the united states for now, but when us pround new yorkers get or freedom tower built up. we will be the ones back on top so i hope you guys enjoyed being #1 from 2001 to until the freedom towers completion.
This is a very great video,and i enjoyed it,but there was a tiny flaw...The title said 2009,and some of these havent even be built yet,cause i thought it would show the tallest skyscrapers of 2009 not skyscrapers that arnt made yet,but i very much enjoyed the video,so i guess you deserve 5 stars :)
Not making any money off this, it's like a fan video. Whether i show picture of Beyonce or a skyscraper, why should anyone care.
@HiAdrian yeah but I was replying to Chekykinz.. Btw I've in in the Sears Tower (now Willis) and CN Tower. And your right the CN tower doesn't count because it has practically 5 floors and the rest is either maintenance or the spire. Btw nice song choice :)

Yeah, it's a very stylish building. And it'll be one of the tallest in Europe. We just can't keep up with the pace in Asia.

burj al arab can't stand for a year or maybe 2 in it's record after completion. the 1km. tower has already started it's foundation in saudia. it will be built by the same construction co. who built the burj, the emaar.
I think you forget "burj jeddah" tower, which is considered to be more than twice the high of burj dubai mentioned at the end of your video ... imagine that !!!!! and they will start building it during this year 2009 i think
Check description, i didn't have room. Also, the height is not know yet, surely above 1km, but that's too vague.
the patronas twin towers do the same thing. they count the antenna. i dont agree and wish they would creat a larger building, but hey what can i do? it's still a nice structure.

I feel sorry for who ever allows this mega buildings to be turned into a reality. We all know that some day, buildings will crumble down and kill thousends of people. Is a fact.
I always understood it that the CN tower is (or maybe was now) the tallest freestanding structure, and these lists are tallest skyscapers (offices from bottom to top).
I don't get this. Before the Tower in UAE. The CN Tower was the biggest tower in the world (Toronto) AND NOBODY EVEN SHOWS OR SAYS ANYTHING ABOUT. HOW STUPID ARE PEOPLE
Unfortunately we dont know the true powerof nature. Who knows how strong a mega earth quake could be. There for we don't know if the buildings can survive that Ndisaster.
1 World Trade Centre and The Chicago Spire. But yeah I agree the US isn't competing for the world's tallest building at the moment and wont be for a while I don't think.
YOu should have realize that most of these buildings are in Asia and Middle East. Building are more reliable in those countries than in....Mexico and USA....hahaha

no one is going to call it the Willis Tower! It will always be the Sears Tower! Who calls Comiskey Park US Cellular field? Yea thats what I thought!
True. But building have and will continue to collapse. Thousands of people have died in earthquakes.Mexico 1985, San Francisco 1989 and many more to come.

As you can see most of the buildings in the video are in Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan. Name one of them that are invested by "western entities".
There is already a building there with an English name Shanghai Center, so they switched the English name of the new building to Shanghai Tower.

Still questionable whether it will be built at all. This video doesn't include proposals or visions.
USA still is, and always will be #1. If others build taller, it's due to insecurity. If they build smaller, it's due to lack of glory.

well in Europe many buidlings were build up again after WW2. like the Frauenkirche in Dresden or Reichstag in Berlin.

I am proud that Asia has so many skyscrapers....America is lagging behind in this..lol...As for Europeans, forget about them...

my fav is shanghai tower. it will have a glass coat covering the main structure and 9 different sky gardens. super excited!

Actually the Jeddah Mile High Tower is. and its the Nakheel Tower (Nakheel meaning palms or palm trees)
As a New Yorker, I really wish they would just rebuild the World Trade Center, rather then build this Freedom Tower.

what if the lifts stopped working and u were on the top floor of BurJ Dubai. thats alot of steps over 1 kilometer
i actually think that the burj dubai is taller. its already 808m and it still hasn't stopped :-)
They added a large spire. I personally preferred the old design without it.
