    The HK skyline(s) make NYC's look rubbish. I'm getting bored of people saying NYC is the best city in the world. More tall buildings in HK, better setting with mountains in the background, newer buildings, continuously developing and improving, financially stable, much better transport, healtier food and lifestyle, worlds best airport and airline, cheaper goods, zero tax, part of the manufacturing capital of the world, perfect geographical location for trade...

    Toronto still has a beutiful skyline, it's amazing how many amazing pictures there are out there of Toronto. Lets hope that Toronto will get some new aditions to its skyline in the future, i think a skyscraper in the 1200-1300 ft range would compliment CN tower very well.

    Great video and music. It was obvious the top 5, and in that correct order too! A few of the rest of the 15 were a pleasant surprise. Thanks for the vid!

    This is my favorite of all the cityscape videos on UA-cam. The music mix and visuals are both beautiful and I play it morning after morning to brighten my mood 'til I get to Toronto, 400 km down the road from here, Ottawa, which just doesn't have the prosperity, or it does, for only the people that live outside the core where nothing gets built due to lousy policies. Because nothing's allowed that will overshadow the gov't buildings, but those are Victorian, as is the attitude.

    With an estimated 7500+ high-rise buildings, Hong Kong has earned itself the title of world's tallest city dwarfing its nearest competitor New York. Skyscrapers are the soul of the city, and it's estimated that Hong Kongers spend an average of two days each year in a lift. However, it's not only about size, and the city can be considered the style capital for skyscrapers, boasting some fantastic designs. Collectively, these banks of skyscrapers make for the most spectacular skyline in the world

    in 3:59 here building another building next to those towers. The one on the left is almost 1700 ft tall, and the one on the right is over 1300 feet tall. There buliding the Shanhai Building which will be over 2000 feet tall next to those.

    What I find, still amazing is that all of these chinese cities, just 20-30 years ago were so different that you wouldn't be able to tell. Just 30 years ago all of Shenzhen was just a sleepy little fishing village and now today. Its interesting to see what they will look like in another decade or so.

  • @mariusbleek

    If Dubai continues to develop at the pace it is now in the future, Dubai will probably crack the top 2 within the next decade. That city has some crazy projects in the works.

    its more aesthetically pleasing for sure. But NY has that history to it that definately makes it very unique. Its also a world city, indicating its importance to the world economy. I think its these factors that contribute to the aura of NY's greatness. Cuz really, u look at NY's skyline, theres just a bunch of aging skyscrapers, but it is this that makes it great in my mind.

    Cool video and it makes sense that Asian countries had the most representation, they make up half the Earths population therefore they are more dense. On the other hand anything can change as cities develop more projects in the future especially from the BRIC and N11 countries. Some of you need to go the source before posting a comment about this list.

    @h10410 Hong Kong was not part of China until 1997. And by that time its skyline was pretty much already this beautiful. Hong Kong is as much a British product as a Chinese product.

    Ok, but you have to admit that a building like ICC looks more massive and somehow "taller" because of its "compact" design than a "smaller" building with a giant spire

  • @Gettopimp187
    @Gettopimp187 15 років тому

    It's more dense and connected than the NY-Philly-Boston-DC cluster but not as the NY-NJ metro area. It depends on the definition.
    But even only with Shenzhen HK can at least easily be compared to NY regarding that subject.

    This was taken from an article in the Wall St Journal in 2006, so even New Yorkers are willing to admit that they are no.2. Since then there have been many additions to HK's overall height and zero in NYC. I'm pleased that you are passionate about your beliefs, but unfortunately "everything you think you know is wrong". If you look around NYC, huge portions are not even high rise. Virtually all buildings in HK are. Limited land means they have to build up - it's obvious.

  • @mariusbleek
    @mariusbleek 15 років тому

    dude, NY has way more concrete buildings than HK. A lot of NY's skyscrapers are aging now, with many being 60+ years old. If u look at HK 60 years ago, they had virtually no high rises. All of China's large cities have very modern skyscrapers, since they didnt have the technology to make such tall structures back when New York had handfuls of them and was in a construction boom period.

  • @Gettopimp187
    @Gettopimp187 15 років тому

    That's because of political and economical reasons (HK/ mainland China), usually they aren't counted as one metro area.

    @ThePeeBottle 13 billion was a typo. Sorry about that. The census data that I used was from more than 10 years ago, so sorry about that too. But bottom line is it's well more than 90%. And you need not educate me what people speak in China. I'm from there FYI. Canton, in fact. Maybe I should correct my statement earlier from "everyone speaks Mandarin" to "everyone IS ABLE to speak Mandarin." Except Cantonese people > 60 years.....but that's a negligible factor cus we're Hans.

    @gariadara sorry, if i came off as a know-it-all jerk, because i don't know it all, and im not a jerk ;))
    i just thought you were implying that it's only mandarin in mainland china. because i get tired of people asking, for example, "what do you speak? cantonese? or chinese?" and the question doesn't even makes sense, until i found out the accepted false notion that mandarin is considered the only language in china.
    my answer to their question is "i do speak chinese, in the form of hokkien" :D

    @gariadara "FYI China has 56 ethnic minorities, but more than 95% of its 13 billion people are ethnic Chinese (Han). And everyone speaks Mandarin there."
    actually it's 1.3 billion people, not 13 billion, and the han chinese are around 92% (1.2 B) of the population. even among the han, not everyone speaks mandarin there, although it's the most widely spoken language and sort of the lingua franca. they also speak cantonese (hong kong isnt the only place they speak it), or wu, hokkein, many others

    HK is also a world city. More banks and financial institutions are based in HK than NYC and HK is no.1 in the world for IPO's. There are 70 million employees of HK companies in southern China alone making it one of, if not the most important city on earth for global trade. It is also part of the worlds oldest existing civilisation, providing a 'little bit' of history. NYC, and America as a whole is brand new in terms of it's inhabitants and urbanisation, and has very little history...

    Hong Kong fully deserves the world's best skyline title as it's the only MASSIVE skyline that's silhouetted agst both tall mountains and a majestic harbour. Condolences to Singapore, Hong Kong's very jealous rival. BTW, the Dubai Tower is really butt ugly. If there's a contest for the world's sorest eyesore, it'd take it hands down.

Also i think DUBAI is the most "artificial city" and doesnt belong. i mean if you look at their city, all of the skyscrapers are on 1 major street. look at 5:05. u c what i mean. like if it was built overnite.

    @poortaiwanese I wasn't arguing anything. we've been talking about HK, not China. HK is pretty much 99% Cantonese Chinese people. I've never said India wasn't stable. It was you who implied otherwise by saying and I quote: "...look how it turned out." Unless I misunderstood you. Anyhoo, even though we're not talking about China here, FYI China has 56 ethnic minorities, but more than 95% of its 13 billion people are ethnic Chinese (Han). And everyone speaks Mandarin there.

    Virtually all European, US and international banks operate in HK. As with all countries it's retail banking is dominated by local banks. The 'trifecta' (if there ever was such a thing) has long gone since the power has and will continue to shift to China. HK is hugely important to the rest of the world as it is China's link to the west. As we know most countries rely heavily on China, the US especially with 76% of it's debt owned by China. HK's had the freest economy in the world for 17 years...
