I'm still working on that dream, but it's so cool to see somebody else going for it and making it happen! The K series is an awesome swap and I love it. Tr Vlogs Car Life people try to be different, but everyone wants some cookie cutter shit. the car community is about diversity and family; if every cars the same then what’s the point?
Congrats Ben! It may not sound like much but I also bought one of my dream cars last week, a red 1997 Miata with 65k miles and no rust at all. I love it so much, I even have the original window sticker for it!
I've got a tan interior in my car, and I like it. Besides, how much time do you spend looking at the seat you're sat on? If it's comfortable and supportive, that's good enough imo
As some who owned 2 FCs and a 20B swapped FD: I'm sad to see a piston engine the the car, but A) I'm glad it's not an LSx B) its better to have a Kswapped FD on the road then a rolling chassis that rusts into the ground/ gets thrown away/ parted out
Love the FD and the K swap. It's perfect and light and beautiful. When it's done, it will drive like a dream at 2300 lbs. It's gonna be so good. 400 HP with a quick spooling turbo will feel amazing. So many benefits to having a light car. I say skip the wrap and wing for now, and repaint the original color. You can always wrap it later to change up. I tend to take the kiss approach to car building (keep it simple, stupid), because the less complicated things are, the more time you actually spend driving it. Your civic build was one of my favorite UA-cam builds to follow and see complete. I love the EK chassis and K24 swap and NA powerband, and I'm thinking this is going to blow that away when you are done. Good luck! This should be amazing!
I respect the confidence in buying someone else's incomplete project car. I'll definitely stay tuned to see how this turns out. Keep us updated and best wished on your build.
Im so excited for this project! Finally a UA-cam channel that has a k swapped rx7, if you don’t wanna do a full paint job. Just do a respray of the Montego green, that color of beautiful when in good condition. With the mix of green and blue in the paint it just looks stellar on the rx7’s sensual curves. For a trunk spoiler just do a flush rear lip spoiler. Clean and simple. And for wheels some gram light 57dr in a gold looks killer on them. Can’t wait to see more content, imo the k swap is the best swap on fd’s simply because it’s power band is so similar to a rotary, but with a ease of maintenance that is a Honda 4cylinder.

TBH he should go full on electric... Electric AC and PS... AC from a Prius and EP3 power Steering.. No load on the engine, will just need a sufficient alternator. And not hard to do.
@ by doing that the alternator needs to pump out more current. Which is more parasitic losses
4 роки тому
@@alexstromberg7696 Still better than running off a belt. The losses from AC pull on a motor are substantial and make the motor run like shit. My friend runs his electric AC on a separate battery in the trunk just for the AC, so the draw from the AC on the alternator is very little and there is no drain on the main battery. I have driven his car dozens of times and the electric system has never had an issue and there is no power loss.
I'm so glad to see a K swap FD! It has a similar High rpm nature to a rotary engine, just with improved reliability (albeit without that distinctive rotary noise). For the time being, get it running and wrap it, enjoy it for a while, then paint it in the future. I wrapped my car and I have no regrets, very glad I didn't spend loads on paint. I think a nice deep red could look good, a bit of a homage to Toretto's FD from the first fast and furious. Really looking forward to more!!
Paint is great, but it's the price that stings. When you've stripped the car back to a bare shell, sure, paint is obviously the best bet. But when the car is (mostly) together, and you want it all to be one nice colour, quickly and easily? That's when a wrap is good. For ~£500 in material costs, it's really good :)
@@maiy8786 yeah, it's certainly not as permanent. I wrapped a couple of my cars while at home and 3M guaranteed the wrap lasts 5 years, and when there's no labour costs because I'm doing it myself I see it as good value I did have to redo a panel though, but there wasn't any kind of residue left from the vinyl. Perhaps that depends on the vinyl used, what brand were you removing?
@@maiy8786 huh, I can't say I've heard of them. If you get the chance try working with some 3M 2080 vinyl though, it's an amazing material. No noticeable residue, great to work with, and the end result looks great too
Honestly when I clicked on the vid I was like "WHY?", but now it honestly makes sense and I hope the journey to fix up your dream car is a smooth and fun one :)
As a Honda fan, who has built a couple of proper track spec Civics, and a massive FD fan, I love your K Swapped FD. I am definitely looking fwd to the build series.

I don't know man, but this guy deserves a TV series. I watched some of his vids including the K swapped EK series and I'm surprised how detailed the videos are. Everything is perfect, nothing to complain.
I mean...at least it can rev high. I personally love the rotary, but I'm a firm believer that you should drive what drives you. I think it's definitely different from the norm and it's got potential for an awesome build. Just don't put a freaking wing on it. The oem spoilers look so good on that car.
I wholeheartedly agree, they are hands down the best looking car ever built and my ultimate dream car since I drove friends back when I was just out of highschool. I am looking so forward to this build.

When you do an engine swap and get no torque increase. Seriously though, a 4 cylinder swap is perfect for the FD. Even a 6 cyl would be too heavy. Makes me think how amazing it would be drive if it was designed from the factory to fit a flat 4.

@@weasle2904 an LS in an RX7 is never a success lol Besides, having a slightly rearward biased weight distribution gives an advantage when exiting corners, and if this does make 400+hp, it'll need all the Advantage it can get for traction :)

Didn't know much about this car, but it sounds like an awesome project. A turbo K Swap RX7 is pretty sweet on it's own! I would personally go with a bright color - but I like bright colors (yellow, orange, etc.) or go with something more subtle like a gray, dark green, or white. Although your Civic is subtle already (white), so I would go with something a little different. Very excited to see how this beast comes along, always enjoy the videos. So awesome that you guys do this full time and are building your own cars in the process!
Interested to see where thjs goes, I have an LS swapped FD, originally built from a roller for drifting but been turning into a more street car the past few yrs. I'm not opposed to any swaps or even rotaries. What type of motor mounts or is an aftermarket subframe is used in the kswap like my FD?
Two things: First: Look into electronic power steering. Far less complicated than a conventional system. Second: Please don't cut/drill rust-free fenders, the poor car didn't deserve that.
Ok so lets talk fuel economy. IF youve ever owned a turbo-K that makes 4-600 HP you will quickly understand that they get about the SAME gas mileage as a stock FD/FC 13b (about 13-15mpgs) Now, with that said, lets talk about reliability. anyone who owns a turbo K will tell you. they arent very safe around 600WHP without MAJOR modifications ($$$$$) Lets talk about the sound, Not many engines in this world sound WORSE then a 13B engine.. (yes i said that, 13b engines sound like DOG SHIT. no one NO ONE likes the sound of a weed wacker) however. with THAT said, the K-series is probably the only engine i truly hate (sound wise) more then a rotary engine. im sorry i said it. K series engines are super raspy loud and play the most absurd engine note i think any 4 cylinder has ever made. *yes they sound worse then straight piped B series engines* after all of the extra turbo stuff added to the K series engine you will QUICKLY realize JUST HOW HEAVY THEY REALLY ARE. i vaguely remember weighing my turbo 13b at 460 lbs. which was just short of that of an LS Iron block. (no one talks about full aluminum LS's weighing just under 400lbs) now, weighing a turbo K you will be surprised to find out they too also weigh about 400-430lbs fully dressed. Then we talk about torque. see the rotary engine doesnt need alot of torque because it has a very linear power curve. it makes power alllllllll the way strung out up top. (great!) but has anyone talked about RPM vs Torque numbers? or just peak? because lets be honest. K series engines STRUGGLE to make more then 200 ft lbs under 5k RPM. ONTOP of this. the K series engines struggle to make more then 350-400 ft lbs of torque even with 600WHP . they simply DONT MAKE TORQUE. and when they do, you sacrifice timing, peak horsepower and RPM (you sacrifice the 9k RPM redline for a safer 7500RPM redline to suit your "new" torque curve" coming from someone with LOTS of honda background and also LOTS of turbo FC stuff,. i would never. WOULD NEVER swap a Turbo K in an FD chassis. that is UNBELIEVABLY sacrilege and youve slashed the value of that car dramatically and successfully removed EVERYTHING that makes an RX7 an RX7. youve dumbed down the powerband ridiculously. you now change handling characteristics, revving characteristics and ultimately ruined what makes an RX7 an RX7. with all of this said you are still with me... WHY NOT JUST BUY AN S2000!??!?! just as youve said "anyone can just buy a corvette" well... why not just buy an S2000 ?
Danny iPwn .....lots of good points except the sound. My ears love the sound of rotary engines. All of them.....from the 87 n/a with full HKS exhaust I used to own to the Jim Downings Kudzu I seen at the 24 hours of Daytona in 1998. 787b.....nuff said
Damn my boi Danny attacking Ben lol. I mean its his money, its a build no popular youtube channel really covered yet(pretty unique). I guess it his dream chassis+ his dream engine, to each their own I guess. Tbh I would not take out the 13b, but at the same time I would swap a k24 in wrx if I had the chance. We are all weirdos in our own ways lol.
Good points but don’t agree with the sound part. Also S2000s are not only holding their values very well but are starting to go up and appreciate. Maybe a 350Z would be a better example in your argument.
Im so jealous. OK so... Focus con paint detail, suspension, wheels and making that engine start at first then u are allowed to think about spoilers and interior, white rx7s are amazing and works w a black interior but its something u see when is painted, actually the dark blue paint works w that tan color so... Enjoy it while it last

Congrats Ben! It may not sound like much but I also bought one of my dream cars last week, a red 1997 Miata with 65k miles and no rust at all. I love it so much, I even have the original window sticker for it!
Tan interior is rare in the rest of the world. Keep it. Just make it clean!
Agreed. Alternative: get tan seats recovered in a darker tan. Swap headliner to black, swap/recover door panel in black.
He can sell the tan and get black stuf
Let the rest of the world pay a premium for it
I've got a tan interior in my car, and I like it. Besides, how much time do you spend looking at the seat you're sat on? If it's comfortable and supportive, that's good enough imo
Agreed!
As some who owned 2 FCs and a 20B swapped FD:
I'm sad to see a piston engine the the car, but A) I'm glad it's not an LSx
B) its better to have a Kswapped FD on the road then a rolling chassis that rusts into the ground/ gets thrown away/ parted out
Someone finally said it
@@98Kentuckian Exactly.
I heard to swap a 20B is a massive undertaking. Is this true?
Truth!
same man, but this channel seems cool and the guy is positive idk the more I learnt about rotaries the more I got sad seeing pistons in rx7s
I think for a rare engine swap like this, a nice yellow paint (like on S2Ks) with some nice wheels and clean ex- and interieur would be perfect.
They look mint in yellow
Yeah boi , that sunburst yellow looks amazing AF

Check out using the 12 volt power steering pump from an MR2. May help you out on your A/C + power steering desire.
TBH he should go full on electric... Electric AC and PS... AC from a Prius and EP3 power Steering.. No load on the engine, will just need a sufficient alternator. And not hard to do.
@ this.
Ben NEEDS to see this
@ by doing that the alternator needs to pump out more current. Which is more parasitic losses
Power steering pump fits, I did this conversion 10 years ago
Looks like an expensive project. Can't wait to see how it comes out.
I wrapped a couple of my cars while at home and 3M guaranteed the wrap lasts 5 years, and when there's no labour costs because I'm doing it myself I see it as good value

When you do an engine swap and get no torque increase.
Seriously though, a 4 cylinder swap is perfect for the FD. Even a 6 cyl would be too heavy.
Makes me think how amazing it would be drive if it was designed from the factory to fit a flat 4.
what are you talking about, The RX7 has really good weight distribution and can afford to have a heavier engine. People have been LS swapping them to great success
@@weasle2904 an LS in an RX7 is never a success lol

if it was a 13b yeah but its a k20z1 . he's already sponsored by a lot of great companies who make k-series parts ( ie his civic ) so this was a wise decision for him to get a k-swapped FD to save huge $$ while rocking the shell of his dreams . in my opinion , the rotary is what made/makes an rx7/rx8 but to each their own with their money .

@@kieranmaharajah6933 thank you yes, I never had a rotary in the first place.
Two things: First: Look into electronic power steering.
Far less complicated than a conventional system.
Second: Please don't cut/drill rust-free fenders, the poor car didn't deserve that.
Ok so lets talk fuel economy.
IF youve ever owned a turbo-K that makes 4-600 HP you will quickly understand that they get about the SAME gas mileage as a stock FD/FC 13b (about 13-15mpgs)
Now, with that said, lets talk about reliability. anyone who owns a turbo K will tell you. they arent very safe around 600WHP without MAJOR modifications ($$$$$)
Lets talk about the sound, Not many engines in this world sound WORSE then a 13B engine.. (yes i said that, 13b engines sound like DOG SHIT. no one NO ONE likes the sound of a weed wacker)
however. with THAT said, the K-series is probably the only engine i truly hate (sound wise) more then a rotary engine. im sorry i said it. K series engines are super raspy loud and play the most absurd engine note i think any 4 cylinder has ever made. *yes they sound worse then straight piped B series engines*
after all of the extra turbo stuff added to the K series engine you will QUICKLY realize JUST HOW HEAVY THEY REALLY ARE.
i vaguely remember weighing my turbo 13b at 460 lbs. which was just short of that of an LS Iron block. (no one talks about full aluminum LS's weighing just under 400lbs)
now, weighing a turbo K you will be surprised to find out they too also weigh about 400-430lbs fully dressed.
Then we talk about torque. see the rotary engine doesnt need alot of torque because it has a very linear power curve. it makes power alllllllll the way strung out up top. (great!)
but has anyone talked about RPM vs Torque numbers? or just peak? because lets be honest. K series engines STRUGGLE to make more then 200 ft lbs under 5k RPM.
ONTOP of this. the K series engines struggle to make more then 350-400 ft lbs of torque even with 600WHP . they simply DONT MAKE TORQUE. and when they do, you sacrifice timing, peak horsepower and RPM (you sacrifice the 9k RPM redline for a safer 7500RPM redline to suit your "new" torque curve"
coming from someone with LOTS of honda background and also LOTS of turbo FC stuff,. i would never.
You really wrote all this shit
Danny iPwn .....lots of good points except the sound. My ears love the sound of rotary engines. All of them.....from the 87 n/a with full HKS exhaust I used to own to the Jim Downings Kudzu I seen at the 24 hours of Daytona in 1998. 787b.....nuff said
