This is an excellent, and honest review. I carry a Glock 26 gen 3, because its light, but my nightstand gun is an XD-40 Service 4 inch. Even though the Glock 26 is 9mm, it still has more recoil than the XD-40. I attribute this to the heaviness of the XD, which has a very solid feel. I'm an older person that doesn't have the hand, and wrist strength I used to. After about 50 rounds, I have to make sure my grip is tight on the Glock 26, as I could limp wrist it. It is impossible for me to limp wrist the XD, as I've tried many times to induce a limp wrist malfunction. My XD grip safety works every time, even with not that tight of a grip. These are both outstanding guns, in my opinion the best on the market.
Very fair and well done review! Thanks. The “witness hole” is actually the striker retainer pin. It’s designed to be easy to swap out. Mine have never needed to be replaced but apparently if you dry fire thousands of times without snap caps (as the Croatian military apparently has done at times) then the striker retainer pin can get chewed up by the striker. The design protects important and more expensive parts. A new striker retainer pin is under $2.
I was actually pleasantly surprised when I shot an XD for the first time, the grip safety didn’t bother me at all. I definitely shoot my Glocks better and prefer them, but I’d be alright with either.
I have both and love em both. The put away my G19 as my edc for a SA x9 for a year but ended up going back to the g26 for edc with the g19 and g17 mags to support my big meat beaters.
One big pro for me is that the XD has a rail, which lets me run a streamlight. Got a custom holster that fits it with the light attached. Also have magazine base extensions that let you get a full grip on the smaller magazines - pinky and all. Fantastic firearm!
I recommend the 17 round mags for the xd9, it gives you some pinky space and now it competes with a full size glock. Still easily concealable and if you just buy two mags they Will definitely outlast you if you know how to store metal.
I like to see the love for the xd 9s my first pistol ever was the xd 9 and it was my cc until i got my glock 19 but i still carry if from time to time and always have fun with it at the range
My first 2 guns were an xd and xd 45, I'm a glock fan now but besides xd s feeling bulkier i never had a problem. Only grip safety(of my 1911,ez,xd) ive had an issue with was my dads llama.
I’m thinking about the XD as a nightstand pistol. It’s nice to have 10, 13, and 16 round magazine options (we are currently only allowed 10). I have a G26 but want the grip safety and for the range, slightly softer recoil.
I have both of those guns and by far my XD-SC shoots way smoother then my G26. I shoot my XD-SC better because the grip fits my hand like a glove and makes it point better.
Just for fun have you ever googled the HS 2000 ? It’s the predecessor to the XD. I was going to buy one when I first saw it many years ago for $189. Then Springfield acquired the company and changed the name and the price ! Just an interesting thought.
Yes of course! It’s the original. Everything costs more over here when you have to import it. That’s Glock, Sig, anything prior to having factories in the US
Both are very easy to rack actually, so I would say the same. The xd9 is heavier but has less recoil. the women I have shot with don’t like them because they are think. You should try the p365 by sig, even chambered in .380 or the shield plus!
@@spnfirearms I've shot both versions of the P365 and found that the .380 is indeed slightly easier to rack and much more pleasant to shoot. I absolutely love the Shield Plus in terms of shooting, fit and function but I have found that the slide---while not impossible to manage---is a bit stiffer than I would prefer for a primary EDC. The Sig P365XL in 9mm is a great shooter and easier to rack than the Plus, provided that I remove the mag first (it's tougher with the mag in for some reason).
I picked up my first Glock 26 (gen 5) a couple days ago and I THINK I'm already having regrets. It's a blocky little shit, and I say that as someone who has had a Glock 22 for years. The full-size frame Glocks, however better distribute the size and weight of the thickness. This, however, literally feels like you are holding a brick. I had an XD-45 years ago and I loved it....it felt great in the hand. Now I'm looking at the CZ P10S and the XDM Elite Compact. I have a feeling I should have picked the XDM Elite. 😒

Springfield sells a magazine with a nice grip extension so you can get your pinky on the XD for a full grip

The xds and xdm will take full size mags just like the Glock do aslong as is the same size like the g26 g19 g17 g34

It is, but when you put a full size XD mag and the sleeve(makes for a full size grip, btw), it balances VERY well. The extra weight helps with recoil.
