- In a rare public appearance, Queen Elizabeth appointed Elizabeth Truss as the U.K.’s third female prime minister. Prime Minister Truss traveled 500 miles to Balmoral Castle in Scotland because of the Queen’s mobility issues, which hasn’t happened for 140 years. Truss is being compared to Margaret Thatcher as she faces economic storms ahead.

She’s been through 20 US presidents and about 15 prime ministers. She was amazing. May she Rest In Peace

Queen Elizabeth II had 14 US presidents during her reign, not 20. Harry Truman was the first and Joe Biden was her last. The only one she didn't get to meet in person was Lyndon B. Johnson.
Her hands looked very bruised and it looked like she was dropping weight - I have to give her credit for still managing to show up to do her job. No matter what you think of her, she really did devote her entire life to being Queen.
My mothers hands (died last year with 92) looked like this as well in the end. It comes from the infustions they gave her on the back of the hands and from bad blood circulation.
It gives me chills to think that this rare appearance would be her last one. Look at her hand🥺poor queen was sick, this happened a day ago, new PM was announced then day after queen dies😭RIP Queen!

Her passing is a world-history changing event. Yes, this moment was inevitable but she served nobly & well, having guided her nation, and family, through many a storm, when it appeared as though the monarchy was about to topple, more than once in her reign, but she surmounted every crisis with grace & aplomb. Despite my sadness at Elizabeth leaving us, I'm glad Charles finally has a chance to be king in his own right. Can't wait to hear his address to the wonderful British people this Friday, tomorrow, 9/9, as I type. Momentous days ahead, indeed!

I think The QUEEN held on until she could fulfill our most anticipated duty - to formally appoint and meet the next prime minister knowing that will be our last appointee. You could tell by her hands her health was failing. Time to rest.

whatever your opinions are about the queen... we must recognize that today a woman who has worked for 70 years is leaving, a woman who sacrificed the possibility of having normal experiences (going wherever she wanted, eating wherever she wanted, speaking publicly of what she wanted), a person that was require to have her privacy displayed before the eyes of everyone in her own country or otherwise. All in the effort to keep a job that was chosen for her and not completely by her as well as a job backed by the expectations of the people of a long gone generation, and still kept even when times changed and maybe more and more of those people began to grow discontented and unwilling on her continuing in set work , ( But stood, still as the temporary guardian of THE title and of the only path she had ever known, knowing that, that was just for as long as the people allow it) .... May she rest in peace knowing that we recognize all that she got to endure for the charge that her nation place on her.

Here in my country a high ranking official becomes sick when in corruption trial or in controversy. Queen Elizabeth II has my highest respect for doing her duty until the last days of her life.

It goes in phases. Our politics had a phase of extreme reaction against each party in turn, resulting in an exceptional run of long serving PMs 1979-2007. Now we are mired in a long term issue putting faction fights across the parties + resulting in short serving PMs. The 1760s, 1827-35, 1850s, 1970s all saw runs of short serving PMs before.
When I saw this 3 days ago I already wondered why only pictures has been shown.
Now, I don't. She was basically in her deathbed.

A brave woman who participated in World War 2 and survived Adolf Hitler's schemes with her entire nation, witnessed great politicians like Winston Churchill and Margaret Thatcher rise and fall, witnessed independence of so many Commonwealth nations one by one; dealt with many crises be it economic, natural(London smog) or regarding The Royal Family(Princess Diana's death) over seven decades has finally reunited with her beloved husband Prince Philip.❤️
PS: An epitome of grace, perseverance and dutifulness. I wish she lived a few more years. 2 more years and she could have been THE LONGEST REIGNING MONARCH IN WORLD HISTORY, breaking the record of King Louis XIV of France.
