- Each year, a wild pair of Trumpeter swans inhabit our Weston Pond in the Canadian Domain. They are one of the first breeding pairs a part of our Breeding and Release program, dating all the way back to the 70’s! This week, we were excited to discover they've welcomed four new cygnets! 🐣
Trumpeter swans are a conservation success story here in Ontario and have been brought back from the brink of extinction. As late as 1925 it was believed they were a vanishing species. The Toronto Zoo is one of the various sites that were selected for restoration programs and many offspring have been bred here on-site since. #savingspecies
Fun fact: Trumpeter swans are the largest form of waterfowl in North America, can weigh as much as 30 lb, and their wingspan exceeds 10 feet!
I'm glad that Toronto Zoo as well as other organizations are working together to help keep these swans protected. It's always a shame to hear about a beautiful species being on the brink of extinction because of wreckless and careless humans.
In no other video do we get to see Trumpeter swan cygnets up close, and hear how they sound.
There so cute, can you make a longer video of them please?

If those swans were wild, they would be trying to beat you silly
I've heard that trumpeter swans aren't as aggressive compared to mute swans
Not true! I meditated with 2 trumpeter swans for an hour at a nearby lake, they were about a meter away from me. Very beautiful and curious birds.
