There is more than meets the eye to this band, just breath in 10 times exhale close your eyes and you will begin to understand why Kings'x fans see something different and other people see a garage band. :-)
My band opened for Kings X in 1990 on the Gretchen tour in Columbus, OH. Masters Of Reality were supposed to be the opener, but they had to cancel. Somehow, we got the call to fill the slot. Mr. Big was in the audience that night because they were huge fans and they were scheduled to play the venue the next night. Have to say, it was a little intimidating to sing and play in front of Ty AND Paul Gilbert at the same time! This video brings me right back to that night! Thanks for posting!
AWESOME 'history'!! I saw King's X 4 times -- 'cause I fkng Love 'em -- (and Mr. Big once; who were *Amazing/flawless!*), at a large bar North of Detroit that is gone now. Both bands would intimidate ANY rock musician! I hope you held your own, and "didn't let 'em see you sweat." ;)
I Love Kings X. This is the reason I love them so much.I wish I was there.Instead I live in crappy South Florida where I have to wait like 5 years to see them. That bass break at 3:36 makes my hands sweat...gives me chills. His bass tone is so not recognized but only by his fans...I've been trying for 20 years to get something CLOSE to his tone and I'm about to give up.Maybe it's the Duncan's???
Yea! One of my favorites....live! Out of all the times I have seen this band live, I don't believe I have ever seen this song live. Thanks for uploading. You made my day!
This is the most epic rock song that has ever been written. The entire universe only came into existence so that THIS song could come into existence. Nothing else matters.
This is amazing!! I love how they still crank out track 1 off their 1st album :D, and in this live clip its tuned lower and dirtier than on the record.....Sounds so fat, and listening to this you can tell that Alice In Chains are directly influenced by this. So ahead of their time, KING'S X FOREVER
Something very special begins at 3:20. One of millions of reasons why the X men are not only the greatest, but their subtlety emphasized by beautiful little explosions play well together.
It's like anything, if I listen to their stuff and get to know it, I'm sure I'll connect with it more; there was this one song with multipart harmony that I liked.. It's also hard for anyone to play just before Kansas as well...
They blend alot of influeneces that no one else would even dream of putting together, eg; Rush & Beatles. They certainly do not play typical bar band stuff, and are quite rightly one of the most respected and original bands out there from their first album onwards. Billy Sheehan once said when asked who he had seen who impressed him, "...that guy in King's X on bass..he scares me" or words to that effect. Of course some wree turned off by the spiritual element.
I just saw them with Kansas and I've played in many bands myself over the years... all I can say is that I liked a couple of the songs, but really, they sound very typical of a lot of bands I grew up with who played in a Garage and at home party's or your local pub. The chords are basically standard bar chords and they put their own feel behind it which is fine, he's got some decent chops; but they play pretty much standard jam rock stuff...they sort of blend in with a lot of bands..
You've apparently never heard (or listened intently to) their albums: "Gretchen Goes To Nebraska" or, "Dogman." THAT is Not 3-man, garage rock band music! And they've always done those songs justice Live, too. Even though this recording here is pretty damn good, it's actually not as good as Most of their recordings (studio, or live.)
Bar bands... lol. There are many huge, major label, worlwide touring acts that wish they they sounded half as good as King's X. And no they never blended in with anybody which is why it was so tough for them to get lumped in to any genre or scene, for better or worse. You just don't dig them, and that's fine.
Gnarly tone ....Love it...
Yes
I'll never forget picking up Gretchen and Silent Planet. I just couldn't believe what I was hearing. Life changing music.
Wow, No pressure there! Great moments in remember I’m sure!!

Cool. Never have seen them play this one live.
One of my fav king's x songs - so harmonic but heavy.
My first album was Gretchen and I agree with the post below. I couldn't believe what I was hearing either. King's X , a band that will live forever...
one of the best, and most underrated bands of all time.
This is the most epic rock song that has ever been written. The entire universe only came into existence so that THIS song could come into existence. Nothing else matters.
So heavy and melodic!
King's X!!!! I love you guys!!! Been ridin' with y'all for along time!!!

Riff Fantastic! Should have been played at Woodstock along with the bone crunchers from the Dogman album.
I'd love to see this live on the next US tour...

I was just wondering the other day, do you guys still play this one. Glad to see that you do!
they still got it...
