What a timeless, transcendent quote by Getz during the piano solo:
"I like to play beautiful and to make people happy. I like to counteract some of the bad things that are going on in the world, by giving people some kind of peace. That also gives me peace. So that's my special word for the way I like to play, is 'Beauty'."

+instrumentattic And how tragic that he lights a f-ing cigarette at that time, which is what killed him way before his time. Same thing with Dexter Gordon and many others.

A voice so do not feel we are so good, but nobody has a voice so melodious that speaks to the heart because he played with the heart. My Big Stan!

Just that ability to capture the feeling of the song, Wow! What a gift. Getz and alto player, Paul Desmond, set the standard for this.

Wow as good as they are, that’s some bold statement considering the other masters of this great music...

I have all this show in one of the oldest winery in California, and it is wonderful, as all Stan did.

Thank you, Bev, for these wonderful posts. It's incredible how Stan Getz's music penetrates the soul and sounds fresh and modern. Judging by your small photo on the D.R. blog you are a spitting image of your charming father. Best from Russia.

E' stato un grande Stan. Ricordo l'emozione all'ascolto di "Focus"; per non parlare di "Getz/Gilberto".
