Perhaps the best 1000 ever built...
nope
yup
S1000RR is better. How? More comfortable on street, faster at track, better build quality, more hp.
You don't know shit dude !
+TheKamar2 not faster on track and definitely not better made but better on road
Thanks for the update, MCN! Have had my 2016 ZX-10R for about a year now, and it's been nothing but pure joy in every ride. No issues so far with the bike, though I do get what's been said about the brakes. They don't have as much initial bite as other bikes with Brembos I've ridden, but they're plenty strong when you grab a handful. My bike only has a few mods as yet, a Puig windscreen, Evotech tail tidy and radiator guard, and Akrapovic slip-on, but it's mostly for street riding so I haven't gone all out with turning it into a proper track machine. I did notice a bit more grunt even with just that little slip-on. This year it will see more track time, so might finally go for a full system and tune.
did you read up? there was a post that says this "It's not the callipers, its the pads and air in the system from factory. Using a Mityvac, Motul 5.1 Brake Fluid and sealing the bleed screw threads with anti-seize, we reduced lever dead zone play 50%. Next we installed EBC sintered pads, and the brakes were almost too sharp. I'm blown away so many people are bitching about these brakes, and no one has vac bled them yet."
I'm looking at picking up a 2017 and this is throwing me off.
This is the only 1000 I would own but I am a Kawasaki fanboy going back to my very first bike at 13, a KX125 to my current Z1000. I also think it’s the best looking literbike.
For all of you 2016+ ZX10R owners out there, the only thing I didn't like about mine were the brakes! I tried brake lines (Galfer) , different pads (Brembo SC), Replaced the discs...no change! only thing that made a night and day change was installing the Brembo 19 RCS Master Cylinder! Much much better feel and lots stronger initial bite! Worth the investment for sure!
I spent a couple of hours on the '12 model, when that was new. I loved the way it rode and handled. I liked the top end, but low down & mid-range were terrible. At the time I had a ZX14 and an R6 track bike, and I think the R6 had more low end and midrange. When the opportunity is there and you can ride it like you stole it, it suddenly works. That's what it was *made* for. The tame mid-range makes you more aggressive with the throttle, and you consciously start carrying more corner speed, like a 600 or a 400, and it is a very fast bike and very easy to ride. But around the houses and the town, when the car behind you has "police" on the side, it sucks. As an every-day urban bike I would rate my ZX14 as much better. I just wish the 14 cornered like the 10R...
lol, I have finally recognised you Neevsy, thats the rear end of my VFR, queuing up for euro tunnel, you were riding to Ibiza with your mates.
Excellent review from a sensible and knowledgeable old hand
You should write a book on all the long termers you've had..
Awesome review Neevsy, especially as I'm about to buy one, can't wait
Old thread. If you still have zx10r, have nick Russo in Florida flash your ECU 👍
Thank you!!!
holy shit it makes 197bhp with the baffle out, with the baffle in it makes 175...22bhp difference from a little piece of metal?? I didn't know it even made more hp without baffle, thought it was just for noise
Best ever looking sports bike
It’s the brake master cylinder!
youy should come over to costa blanca in spain: Meant roads and loads of sun!!!
Thank you for the great review. Can you say what your favorite long term bike has been?
what....22hp difference between baffle in and out ?
wow, i'm stunned about the braking calipers. because they are the m50s that the panigale mounts too... i wasn't expecting such a bad feeling from a such high level caliper :/ ...
nice video as always

@@Albertalorian Interesting, thanks for the tip
Can you compare this to a term r1? Or rsv4?
Dream bike. Neeves you're one of the best test riders, thanks for you work and reviews
I've seen 5hp due to a baffle...but 22? That seems extreme as hell.
Damn, wish I could get a loaner bike for a year, lol.
MrSlowestD16 I thought it was only 2 bhp
They claim 197 vs 175. That's 22.
MrSlowestD16 I thought he said 195
Most definitely not. 195 would make much more sense, maybe even what he meant, but that's not what he said.
His exact quote: "with the baffle in it makes one-seven-five and is kinder to the neighbors' ears."
In no world is "nine" 2 syllables...
It has autoblipper?
Did he say the electronics package gives you extra continence?!
Hi, i'm curious if you guys have ever tried Dunlpads? I have been using them in my MX bikes and road bikes for years.....first thing i did with my 1290 superduke was to replace the Brembo pads with Dunlopads HH compound. best pads i have ever used.
How do the brakes compare to the YZF R1? You say the bike has heavy steering? That bad? Is the throttle twitchy like some ppl mention?
Definitely my favourite litre bike and sounds like its a fucking good un too 💚💚💚 best job in the 🌎
You guys need to do more blogs on here.
Loved the review, I'm interest in the lower pegs, higher windshield, but a cheaper exhaust not too loud but not like the stock either
What kind of baffle is in the thing if it loses that much power?!
Guys, what gimbal are you using for the onboard footage? I use the Feiyutech WG, but its shuts off occasionally. I guess due to increased vibration on my Panigale. Any recommendations/alternatives?
the dudes at 4:16 kiss wtf
Lol....
AloisBlazit 005 lmfao hahaha
AloisBlazit 005 wtf bajahhahaha gayyyyy
i noticed that too. The person with their back to the camera could possibly be a woman? Or at least I hope so
@@kornboy22 the person probably is an older woman, although why does it matter exactly? "oh dudes kiss" "At least I hope so", what are you 10 or just from the 40s?
Obviously... it's a good bike friend ;)
Hi,
Whats the diference between the 2016 KRT model and 2017 KRT model? Why is the 2016 model cheaper than the 2017 if there are the same? Thanks
Alen4805 maybe cause it’s a year older? I’m buying the 2017 soon.
As usual, an excellent review. Thank you.
You prolly dont care at all but does anybody know a tool to get back into an Instagram account?
I stupidly lost the login password. I would appreciate any tips you can offer me!
@Prince Kristian Instablaster ;)
@Isaias Raiden i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm in the hacking process now.
Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Isaias Raiden It worked and I finally got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thank you so much, you really help me out!
@Prince Kristian happy to help xD
Does this model come with a quickshifter
What size of tyres did you use
So baffles kill 22 hp??
yea that's crazy lol
He also says theres basically NO loss between crank and wheel or the fuckin thing is pushing 220hp somehow
Yeah I didn't think a baffle would cause such a huge difference!
It's only a concern on the racetrack; on public roads I have a hard time keeping my driver's license on my quick little Triumph 675 STR!
9enius it depends on the baffle...THIS baffle apparently kills 22hp, but not all do..many aftermarket exhaust companies advertise that their baffles reduce little to no hp when in use. So it's not as black and white as all baffles kill 22hp
What luggage system you used to Tour on this?
you didn't steel braid the brake lines?
What year is this model? 2018?
did they ever fix the brakes?
what gyro camera setup are you using?
Great review. Love the ninjas
You didnt try everything for the brakes!! What about a brembo rcs 19 master cylinder? I’ve heard that fixes the issues on the R1 its gotta be the same story on the zx10.
When doing group test.. The bikes always so "clumpsy".. What does this mean?
Better long termer than the R1 Neeves?
A shame there appears to be no fix for the Brembos. I can imagine it putting-off quite a few people. I presume they're not the M50?
They are M50 monoblocs. They just have a different feel than say the ones on a 1299 Panigale. Less initial bite, but this actually makes it better for daily riding for me. Not as grabby, but still plenty of stopping power.
I wonder if there is a list of people jostling to buy these ex long term bikes as I reckon it could be a good purchase given it's already sorted.
Same could be said about any used bike... You're probably better off buying one NOT by a long term recipient because the reviewer is likely to do track days and stuff and flog the hell out of it (it's not their bike) while somebody who buys it new is likely to baby it b/c they don't buy it with the intention of selling it, they buy with the intention of keeping it.
Could take it or leave it
what again.....rosso 3, over 6k miles on the rear ???
This full test was with a non road legal full exhaust.
Just about to buy a 2018 model how long left of fuel do you have once the fuel light comes on due to it having no gauge?
the previous review he said.
120 constant,
100 on the autobahn
80 on the track
15 to 20 miles
4:16
A Non 😂😂
A Non 😂😂😂😂
I've noticed that, that was really bad thing!
What sort of oil did you use in the ignition? I have a similar issue.
A Garden Shed Vlogs 3 in 1 is probably best but I used a squirt of engine oil, which did the job.
A Garden Shed Vlogs use graphite from a pencil on your key and it'll work much better
Michael can you do one for the aprilia rsv4 rf
Aprilia don't let us run long term test bikes, unfortunately. Neevesy
Thanks for responding.. and smh! @aprilia
4:18 did those guys kiss each other awkward
22 lost whp with the baffle in!! Wouldn't have guessed it would be that much
Consider that an engine is *breathing*. It inhales air, mixes it with fuel, burns it and exhales. Limiting the intake or exhaust is enough to completely ruin an engine's performance. Honestly? I consider this 10% decrease in power to be quite small. I expected more.
Would've gone with S1000RR instead if you had the chance?
and the price of the bike plus all these modifications? not to mention that it's given your insurance company a disclaimer. Oh, and people are not getting out on a trackday because the £1000+ they've spent on an exhaust makes it fail the noise testing!
so it's all quite pointless,ultimately.
Not pointless when it pulls the girls))
Something wrong happened in 4:17
👍 😁

Ok... but... Who are you? Kindly introduce yourself, please :)
George Tsiros He needs no introduction lol.
That's Michael Neeves. Probably the best reviewer at MCN. He puts together some of the most informative videos on this channel, IMO.
GrecoRoman123 He's not a bad sports bike rider as well.
Since he's speaking on the bike magazine channel, he doesn't do introduction. No need it in each video we are signed up for.
It's customary to introduce yourself when you talk to people in video. "Hi, I'm SoandSo, a reviewer at MCN and today I'll talk to you about thisandthat".
Bootleg brembos is the reason for sh!t brakes
Mono block m50 bro they're top shelf. It's the abs that kills the brakes.. that's why I buy non abs
Turtle 1000 as of this year, all bikes has to come stock with ABS, because of Euro 4 laws
Safety man in Brussels makes them and forces them on poor manufacturer ;(
He says in the video he turned the ABS off and there was no difference. All modern superbikes have ABS and they have never stopped better...
Yeah i totally get that. Although alot of manufacturers were making ABS bikes before they became obligatory here. It is kind of anti free market, but if you dont want it you just turn it off. The volume of bikes produced with ABS now will probably mean the cost goes way down per bike, although it will still be more expensive. By the way, MCN's abs test with the fireblade basically proved that unless you are a professional rider ABS will always stop you faster, let alone safer and easier. I Consider it a must have. And yes, i know how to operate a breaking lever properly lol.
6000 miles out of a set of tyres on a sports bike? I mean we all ride bikes here and to actually come out with this shit is why I never buy mcn anymore.
1000cc is average 1000 miles a rear front maybe 1500 before it mis shapes.
Bet he does 400 miles on a fiver of fuel as well.
1000-miles on a rear? You know how to lean over, right? Neevesy.
Good one. But I've tried most of the tyres you've tested and found your claims to be wildly inaccurate.
Kevin Clark Kevin Clark fair play, we must ride wildly differently, then. Why would I lie about tyre mileage? What tyres have you used?
Mentioned in this video the racetec RR but I've noticed these claims in other videos. I may of put my point across crudely so I apologise for that. But 6000 miles out of a rear is unheard of from anyone I ride with.
Kevin Clark no worries, Kevin. It's hard to believe how durable some of the latest tyres are: 3000-miles out of a Racetec RR last year on my R1 (track and road), 3500 out of a Diablo Rosso III on my ZX-10R - hardly worn when I replaced them (to test some more tyres) and an easy 6k on Metz Roadtec 01 sports touring tyres. Some don't wear very well. The original Bridgestone RS10s were squaring off at 1500...
Buy a european motorcycle! :)
