2016 Kawasaki ZX10-R Review: Street & Track Test! | ON TWO WHEELS
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 сер 2024
- Up until last year, Kawasaki’s ZX-10R was the best superbike Japan had to offer; then Yamaha dropped the new YZF-R1 and everything changed. For 2016 Kawasaki is fighting back with a heavily updated flagship superbike-the ZX-10R gets all new suspension, brakes, and electronics, along with an updated chassis and revamped engine internals. Will it be enough?
--
Ari and Zack wanted to know the same thing, and so took the new ZX10 to the street and to the track to find out how it stacks up compared to last year’s bike, as well as the competition.
Over the past few years, Europe has been punching very hard in the superbike ring. From the frameless Ducati Panigale to Aprilia’s sexy and savvy RSV4 and BMW’s insanely fast S1000RR, Japan has been left in the shadows. Kawasaki’s ZX-10R was the only bike that could really hold a candle to the Euro-elite. That is, until 2015, when Yamaha dropped the stunning new YZF-R1 into the mix and made everything else from Japan practically obsolete.
Within the same calendar year, Kawasaki announced a pile of updates for the ZX-10R. Based on what Team Green learned in its World Superbike success, Kawasaki said the 2016 ZX-10R would incorporate all of the things needed to take its flagship superbike back to the top. That meant all new gas-charged suspension from Showa, 330mm rotors and M50 brake calipers from Brembo, updated aerodynamics and ergonomics, as well as a revamped powerplant with lightened engine internals and a new exhaust.
But is it enough? That's the question that we all want answered, and nobody more so than our own Ari and Zack. They took it upon themselves to find out how much better the ZX-10R is for 2016, and how it stacks up to the old bike and the competition. Ari even went so far as getting on an airplane to get to ride the ZX-10R in it's natural habitat. Click on the video above to see what the On Two Wheels team learned!

manufacturers must hate you for being so honest, BUT I thank you for being honest about it, which is rare these days.
keep it up, you've made a fan of me.
Plot Twist: They are sponsored by Yamaha.
best reviewers about motorcycles on the internet hands down. covers everything including cons...which others online do not do. love it. keep it up
Man, I do really quite love this channel, every video is so enjoyable and Ari and Zack are super like-able.
I respect you guys for not kissing a manufactures ass, just because they've invited you to a super exclusive launch. so many other magazines and channels really dial back the valid criticisms just to ensure they get invited back next year.
2:45 that stoppie though
Being a 2014 ZX10-R rider myself, I've been contemplating these past few weeks on whether an upgrade to the 2016 is worth it or not. Every bike DEFINITELY has it flaws but apparently after seeing a number of reviews over UA-cam, none talked about the con side of the bike. Kudos to you guys for commenting on it. As my local Kawasaki dealer (Singapore) does not allow people to test ride on it, reviews like these are the next best thing to deciding on upgrading/purchasing this bike.
It is VITAL to talk about both sides of the coin so keep doing what you guys have been doing!! As mentioned in the video, you guys will be compiling and competing against the rest of the superbikes. Anticipating the review soon!
+Daniel Lin I think the new ZX10R is a fair step up from the older one for being easier to ride. Motor-wise there isn't much in it, although the changes to the motor are a big part of what have made the new bike more capable for what they do to rotating mass affecting the bike's ease of use.
I like the Duo format, we get to hear both the guy's take! Bravo!
ALL of your reviews are heaps better than all the other motorcycle magazines out there. THANK YOU!
Great edit Guys love the smooth pans and transitions very proffesional :D :D :D Keep up the great work :D
I see see you comment everywhere. Not a bad thing. Idk
joe check my channel
+andrew kasper me too man
The delivery, set up and just generally the way you make your vids is pretty good and refreshing! So much so I've subscribed to your mag all the way from the UK! Keep it up guys.
Guys - amazing work on the review. The filming and sound quality is brilliant and awesome to watch. Keep up the great work!
Love how you guys always throw in so quick wheelies here and there lol
What awesome video imagery, love the way the camera shows off the bike as individual items are described. Major props to your video editors!
I like that you are not trying to lie like the other reviewers that are stating that this bike is entirely new, instead you are saying like it really is, an improved zx10r. good job :D
So happy to have found the *"On Two Wheels"* show again!!
It used to be on another youTube channel some years ago but it got moved and I had lost track of it since...
The quality of content you guys put out on this channel is next level!
Great quality and format! Keep up the good work
Great review can't wait to test one myself!
Amazing video, really high quality, great work guys
The best motorcycle videos I've seen. Thank you!
You guys did a great job...keep up the good work...thumbs up
Great, professional video guys! I just got a zx6r, looking forward to this upgrade in some years time..
Good review. I like it when reviews don't always end up with "this is such a great [insert object being reviewed hete]"
Professional work.
Great video! Love that we get plenty of action shots of the bike, and even when they are talking about it, they are riding it! I hate those videos where its some guy standing next to a bike mouthing off the whole time--I want to see the bike in action!
Awesome video! I'm thinking about getting ride of my ZX6R and buying this bike. Keep up the great work!
Great review guys, love it.
The end was too funny! Good video guys!
Love your channel guys , you the best on UA-cam!
This new zx10 is beautiful man
Great review guys. You definitely deserve more views and subscribers. Keep it up :)
Great review as always, guys!
Another nice vid guys - thanks
Wow! Great vid guys! Keep um coming!
Great review guys!
Nice video footage from Sepang!
Awesome production, keep it up guys
your reviews have become the best on UA-cam hands down, well done. and since im here allow me to suggest the idea of a comparison between retro looking bikes like triumph street twin / Bonneville / Xsr700 / xsr900 / scrambler / rninet
you did an awesome video on the 2 scramblers previously, but now the number of scramblers increased
great review! I'll wait for the 2016 comparison review to choose which one to buy. So far the R1 is my favorite!
Out of all the motorcycle reviewers, I was waiting for you guys. I'm glad to hear an honest opinion without hearing a long list of manufacturer's specs I can read myself.
Word.
I can't do every demo and motorcycle shows out there so it's nice to know what you're getting into if you buy XYZ bike. Specs I can read on my spare time ;)
I love the honesty of these guys.
Zack and Ari rock. Fun reviews and pretty spot on. Don't forget, they also have another channel. They fix and give tips on motorcycles in a garage. Just as good to watch.
and to add to my first post, do you think the fact it's now brake by wire that you can't actually feel the bite of the 330 over the 310?
Great review guys...anxiously waiting for 2016 shootout...Pls dont keep us waiting for a long time..
Great job guys.
Nice review guys well done
Great review guys
Great honest reviews. Thank you
nice review..good videography
Another good video guys
So I'm a pretty tall guy about 6'8" I haven't had time to sit on one and check how comfortable it is. How is the comfort level? compared to the other bikes you've guys have been on(2015-2017). I do agree the bar is set pretty high to contend with but with the price tag of 16,000 i think we get alot of good upgrades for that price, they kept the middle guys price tag in mind. good video guys!!!!!!
Nice R20 there Ari! Spotted that as soon as you came out the door. Love that pack.
Perfect analysis of the bike, rode mine for the first time yesterday and came up with the same minor issues. But its all miner that can be tweaked a little to fit my riding. Wish it wasnt 35 degrees Fahrenheit outside and the superbowl was starting... Great review
Nice job. Very informative
An actual critical review of a new bike rather than just pandering. That is awesome to see. :)
love the reviews guys good shit
such a great review👍
Wow Ari great job commenting while riding on the track, it must be really tough!
Excellent review
Awesome review
Awesome review.
Wowww, can't wait to see it head to head with all those Superbikes!
As a Malaysian, Im so proud that Sepang is one of the most badass track in MotoGP calendar. Really proud that people from other countries come here and enjoyed the track. Although Sepang no longer host SBK and F1, but as long as they still host the MotoGP, Im good.
Great videos. Keep it up!
+Zack Courts Were both Zx10s US Spec? I am guessing Euro spec based on track. Thanks and love you guys videos.
Good review fella's
Cool. Hanging out for the superbike roundup next.
I'm badly contemplating btween 2016 s1000rr & 2016 zx10r.. Much appreciated your honest suggestion btween these 2...
great review. disappointing that it didn't really leave a mark tho... maybe in 5 years, I guess!
good review
Nice skills on the track there, Ari!
Absolutely incredible edit, so far above any other reviews out there. Is there any place someone could purchase those shirts you guys are always wearing?
Damn, with this and Gromkhana 2 I just watched... when did this happen? When did you guys get so good? You've always been great but honestly, with MC garage, this review everything... you guys are seriously setting the standard.
Ari and Zack, way to go!
BTW- If you're looking from more retro bikes from a certain Mr. B that used to work in the industry, better call soon as they may be on their way out ;)
Oooo, dem shots!
great review....
Great review, guys. No bs plugs or fanboyism. Seems like a pretty capable machine, though. I'm curious as to what the lap times for this look like compared the the rest of the 2016 1000ccs. I'd imagine they'll have some ECU updates for it in the next bit to adjust the throttle issues. My Panigale was a bit laggy back when I bought it but the latest software totally got rid of the lag and jerkiness rolling it on in corners. I could easily mistake it for a cable now.
Seems like a killer platform. Stock is always soft in the initial reviews. Throw on some aftermarket goodies on all the new bikes and the reviews would be super, super interesting.
I sure like those few seconds at the end with you guys goofing around. Oh... and the rest of the video is ok too :-)
Kawasaki has just kept costs in check that's it :P even after these upgrades which is quiet commendable. Well done Kawasaki! and great work on the review. :D
I was speaking to a salesman at my local dealer about this new zx10r, he said is was the same as the older zx10 with new fairings and new decals, said it wasnt worth buying it new as its so similar to the old model, not much of a salesman i know but i appreciate his honesty
+Jake Thompson Wow, that saleman must have got his bikes mixed up. The electronic package on it's own makes the 2016 model significantly different.
Great job and amazing video, as always! Ps: can you name the black leather motorcycle jacket? Look casual and great fit
nice video guys can't wait for the new honda cbr 1000rr
So here I am, thinkin' hey... I haven't seen a review from Ari and Zack in a while! Plus, I just got my new issue of +Motorcyclist in the mail the other day! Presto, the Internet delivers and here we've got a sweet new video. :D
Glad you guys liked it, even if it's not all you'd hoped it would be. Very much looking forward to a comparo with all the best out there. Bikes that are way, way over my skillset, but hey it's fun to check them out on UA-cam. :D Also, Zack I dig your helmet man, nice.
Love these guys. Their hiatus was just grueling
Very well done video, you guys always have the best content. Seems like if I'm going to be spending that kind of cash on a new sportbike, why not go for the RSV4? The exclusiveness of an Aprilia and that screaming V4 make it so much more appealing to me, not to mention the better electronics styling and finish (imo).
+Matt KOCONUT "That kind of money?" There is a huge price gap between an RSV4 and a ZX10R, not to mention further work on the ZX10R's performance (and asthetics) will cost a lot less
+Cobfan990 The RSV4 Come with ABS $200 difference for ABS model $1,200 difference for non abs. not a big difference at all.
+bajabilly2004 Your knowledge of bikes is rubbish.
LOL my bike budget is the most expensive thing in my life but it isn't my Aprilias that are expensive...
When I heard Sepang I was expecting full race exh system and PC. I do 18k miles a year, BMW has few elec problems i cant afford on the road, Ducati not as friendly and $10K more my current zx10 has 70k miles and it has been tank solid bike, so the new 10r with 5K performance parts sound like the route for me.
Welcome to our country Arry. !!!!..hope you enjoying the heat..haha
Getting 2014 zx10r tomorrow morning ... cant wait , power commander , quick shifter ,akro or sc pipe straight away . Sorted
How is it?
@@thepsychicpeach8425 was good had it for a few months then got the 1290 Duke.
Zx10 was quick, but duke is a wheely machine 😁
I would love to see some videos. 600 class round up / Naked Bike round up/ Modern Classics vs naked ie thruxton, Honda CB1100, BMW R Nine T style bikes vs Street & Speed triple , fz-09 , Ducati Monster, z1000, cb1000r, cb500f . Comparing every day comfort and 2 up riding along with performance on the street and track !
Really great review. I had high hopes for this thing, but the Euros and Yamaha really set the bar way high.
if NA ecu restriction is the way you're going to leave it, then yes it is lackluster. However, with a Flash or Euro spec ecu, then it's power rivals the 2015 bmw and the handling of the 2015 r1
+mxpxn That's precisely how I viewed this review. Kawasaki has made an awesome bike even more awesome... but it's going to have to share the top shelf, if it can even reach it.
+Ian Pana I watched other reviews and the stupid euro 4 is slowing the bike down.Just get rid of this ugly pipe and cat +ecu flash and You have a bike that rivals the other bikes.
That intro was nice ! U guys planned that out pretty well..from the states to sepang , good job. =)
Like many other readers though.. I am curious. We all know that a few Japanese manufacturers restrict their open class superbikes severely(specially the zx10r ) so its feel a little unfair when comparing against unrestricted bikes like the 1299 and the S1000RR .
Any new owner would surely have restricting their bike (ECU flash)at the very top of their mod list and its a pretty cheap fix too. hope you guys can address this ..wont be easy . maybe have two zx10r one stock from the manufacturer and one from a very kind owner whose only mod was un restricting the ecu? i know i know more bikes means more testing and more tires . =/
Good luck guys cant wait to see the 2016 shoot out!
Great review. Even tho it may not be the best 1000cc super bike I still love it. Great bike at a great price, and if your lucky enough to live close to Farrell Performance like me they can take this baby from 167whp to 192whp!
My dream and my favorite zx10r
you guys are good and what you do I think kawasaki should up date more things in the ZX-1000 to plain to be one of the top super bikes, I really like and I have S1000RR that's a líder bike no joke thank you
Ari, if you get the time, could you maybe do a quick review of you new X14 helmet? Would love to know what you think.
very useful review ! thanks ! but i do race on straight line almost time and seem like i need power top end ... is Zx10r or R1 2016 best choice ?! anyone pls !
I don't mind the need to get to the high rpms to get the super pulls because the bike will live on the street most of the time. But the "herky jerky" throttle control seems to be a problem. Wonder if this is an easy software fix, and if the fix is done by Kawasaki as opposed to aftermarket. Surprising that I haven't heard this mentioned before in other people's reviews.
Hi, can you please tell me what is the model of the black Arai helmet you were used in the video?? Thanks,
Outstanding video by the way :)
Hey guys love the channel. If you currently owned a zx-6r and are looking to get a new 2021 liter bike for 85% street use and 15% track use clocking 15k+ miles a year what would you suggest? I’m 5’9 and 190lbs
Best Review for These Day!!! 👍
Good Job, Guys...
But, there is one thing left not attached on video. how about the acceleration (0 - 100 km/h)...
I think it's not really needed because most sport bikes 600 and 1000 a like are around 2.7-3 seconds. Hard to accelerate any quicker off the line because of traction and what not
the tachometer is really a selling point for me ..... it beautiful
You should have tried the black (track ready) version at sepang, that one is pritty close to a WSB bike.
Good work guys, thanks a lot.
Please tell me, 2016 ZX10R is a good bike for daily usage in a city?
I wanna buy it, but I'm in a perfect dilemma between S1000RR (May be 2012 or more) and 2016 ZX10R...
Key words as;
"Mid-Range Cruising with bags" (mean comfort, and rearguard comfort ;) )
and "Big City usage"
Give your offers plz.
Take Care...
Hahaha I like the ending. As much as I want to like the Kawasaki the no power below 9k bothers me for a liter bike. I've heard mixed reviews for the brakes so I won't count that. Other than that it's a solid bike for the price. Still waiting for what Suzuki's new 1000 has to offer in terms of performance and track-ability... Thanks for the review.
plenty for the streets, if not, I heard a lot of people are flashing it. Don't forget these guys are riding at a higher level than most.
