    Have you ever had a power outage where the fan couldn’t blow for an extended period of time? The reason I ask is because the owners manual says that without the fan blowing the heat buildup could damage the electrical components inside the magic heat reclaimer. Thanks for the video.

    yes did you put the close off baffle back in pipe some place - i think that would slow the exhaust flow -an help the heat reclaimer work better/close the damper a little at a time an find the sweet spot/watching temperature on piping-an done let your wood stove burn too fast/dose your stove have the secondary burn-epa rating/also seal all joints with stove sealant in a calking -at lowes/put the damper after the reclaimer/12 or more inches-this is my advice only /a epa wood stove burns less wood too/thanks much

    Creosote is acidic, I think that's why your pipes had holes in them. I would burn really hot fires every weekend to clean that stuff out, hot fires burn up creosote. Sorry you had to go through that fan blade ordeal, I hope you got something back that made up for it. People pick on guys like me that hoard stuff, but hey, you just found out why it's a good idea. 🙂

    I have some videos on UA-cam about the Consolidated Dutchwest wood stove and the Magic Heat if you're interested. I've had my Magic Heat for probably 50 years probably. My MH was used on an oil stove in a garage and then on a gas fired furnace in the basement of my 100 year old house and boy did that make a difference!!!!!!!. I brought it with me to my new house and installed it on my wood stove and its been great all these years. Alas I had to remove it this year because something happened to the pipe scraper. Its not creosote buildup that's causing the problem, but rather the plate cocks on the rod and binds up and there is no way I can get in there to fix it. Now I'm running my stove with just the blower and a one of those passive fans like you have.
    I may buy a new one, but I just wanted to mention that my old MH had 14 tubes instead of just 10.
    You have a catalytic stove there. When's the last time you checked the catalytic combustor? It seems like the stove may have been overfired a number of times to cause that much damage to the Magic Heat and the pipes. I never seen that happen before.
    Nice video!

    I was wondering what that flue thermometer typically reads and if your magic heat cycles on and off during a normal burn. How far are you leaving your air dampers open?

    • @WhitehouseFarmVet
      @WhitehouseFarmVet  Рік тому +2

      The flu thermometer is normally in range its labeled and color coded, I leave my damper open, once I have good coals I fill my woodstove and let it burn with dampers closed, the magic heat has a built in sensor with a switch you can leave it on or let it cycle, I leave my switch on so it's always blowing especially when it's cold because it still pushes hot air that you would be losing with fan off, hope this helps, thanks for watching!👍😊

      @@WhitehouseFarmVet I commented on your video about a month ago and I said that I have a set up very similar to yours. I have Dutchwest FA264FL which is the smaller brother of what you have. My concern is that white pipe just above the MH. It looks like it was running super hot, and that's after the MH which really seems scary to me. My MH took a dive because the pipe cleaner won't function anymore. It's a mechanical problem and not due to creosote and I can't get in there to fix it so I decided to run the stove this year without the MH. It actually works surprisingly well. Now here's the rub. My flue thermometer never gets into the correct temp. range. I have a cat temp. probe, (it looks like you have one too). The cat temp. can be up to 1300 deg. but the flue temp is still way low. The stove is throwing heat all over the place, but the flue thermometer says the pipe is too cool. Thermometer is new BTW.
      When I had my MH operating, it would cycle depending on how hot the fire was, which is what it's supposed to do. The on temp. for the switch is 180 deg. and the off temp is around 140 deg. If you leave your MH running constantly, you would be cooling the gases way low unless you had the air dampers wide open and the cat door in bypass. You said that the temp is in the normal range after the MH which really has me wondering especially after seeing the condition of your old MH! It looked like a crispy critter!

    • @WhitehouseFarmVet
      @WhitehouseFarmVet  Рік тому

      I'm not sure after we get a good base of coals it's easy to keep our fire thermometer at the burn zone or normal range! And we have black pipe above and below the heat reclaimer I think the "white pipe" which your referring to was a pipe guide on top of the heat reclaimer its oxidized zinc the sacrificial coating that's supposed to protect steel from corrosion because our stove is in our basement where its humid, that's why you can see and I tell in the video how the air tubes in our heat reclaimer starting rusting out and I tried patching it with a piece of sheet metal! But definitely not burning too hot because if that was the case I wouldn't of had the build up of creosote like you see in the video too hot a fire wouldn't allow creosote to build up like that and the bottom black pipe before the heat reclaimer if it was too hot would be the first to go if it was running too hot not the top!

    • @WhitehouseFarmVet
      @WhitehouseFarmVet  Рік тому +2

      Honestly it depends on how cold it is outside and if its windy and what type of hardwood I'm burning there really is no set way each setup is different and pipe size and location of the heat reclaimer on your pipes etc there are alot of variables you really need to play around with your setup to figure out what burns best at your house I wish I could just say do steps a b and c and it will be perfect but unfortunately it really is a trial and error of what you think does the best at your place and setup!
