- With a gorgeous interior and handsome styling, the Mazda CX-9 is a compelling three-row crossover, even if its interior is cramped and infotainment tech lackluster.

The current Mazda's don't seem to age much to my eyes which is a big positive it seems to be difficult for most cars to age well over the years luckily Mazda is one of the few
I agree, it's gorgeous!!!
are you talking about guys winter hat?
Yes I agree with you because until this date no car maker can match the beautiful design of the CX-9 It is still my favorite SUV though it's already a few years dated and even the Luxury brand can't beat this Mazda's Kodo design. The only negative effect of Kodo design is it sacrifice the interior space.👌 👌 👍 👍
Owned a 2010 CX-9 which was never really best in class at anything, but man I have to say it was one of the best cars I’ve owned. Drove amazingly well, stupid reliable, and didn’t feel like you were in a appliance. Highly highly recommend any car from Mazda’s range
My 2012 has been mediocre in reliability with plastics falling off and the differential conking after one winter. This does not include several recalls and hard to trace, but very annoying plastic rattles. This might be my last Mazda and I have owned 3 of them. Your mileage may vary, I guess.
@@nsbioy Oh wow im surprised to hear that. Yea I can agree the interior wasn't very high quality, so rattles were expected. Mine had travelled cross Canada just fine without a single issue
@@Pabla98 didn't leave me stranded or anything, on the other hand. The transfer case has not failed thus far, although I had the TC oil replaced once just to be on the safe side.
The 2017 plus years are nothing like the past versions.. zero!
@@BX0207 true, except one: the badge.
Craig is the most entertaining reviewer. KBB’s humor is a close second.
Aw, thanks so much! I appreciate it.
- Craig
I'm with you on that!!!
Simply the best overall driving 3 row! I use a hitch carrier when I really need that extra storage space
Best driving 3 row is the new Explorer with its RWD based platform.
@@Lucky8s Who the hell wants an unreliable Ford product? This is a superior vehicle.
Q7? X7? Sorry, CX9 is not better driving than those. For the price, yes, but certainly not overall.
@@deet4895 lol. Check sales figures for the Explorer vs Cx-9 and you will see how many people want the Ford and how many want the Mazda. Lol. Some people can be hit on the head with a bag of facts, but they will still miss it.
Among the most desired qualities of 3-row SUVs, best driving is far from the top of the priorities list for the target customer.
Plenty of practicality in CX9!
And if you need a extra few qubic feet of cargo to carry some air for 99% of the time than get a boatier competition .
This guy is funny as hell
He's our Canadian
@@DMaster27 Actually, I'm 100 percent American, but I guess I earned honorary Canadian status for my time at AutoGuide, LOL! Thanks for watching.

@@craigcole5497 Ahh snap. We want you back. Lol
I thought this was a Touring trim review, not the Signature trim. Please update the title.
Just bought this car and I love it.
Love my 2017 CX-9 Signature!
I love my 2019 CX-9 Signature, best vehicle ever had.
Same here...own a 2017 Sig and no problems for over 3yrs! Good on gas too for a 3-row vehicle...
Same here, 2017 CX-9 Touring Sport Utility 👌🏻
My dad bought this car for aud 58k in sale. Best value hands on
I think you are a good reviewer, but sometimes you are a bit biased. Would prefer just the humor and objective review. You made fun of the transmission having only 6 speeds, then go on to compliment its smoothness and responsiveness.
This was not a touring, it was a signature.
Damn this is probably the worst cx9 review I’ve seen...
Literally the best infotainment system
Great car, great review! Mazda is extremely popular in Australia and we are the only right hand drive market for CX-9 - shows Mazda’s dedication to Australia!
Australia isn't the only right hand drive market the CX-9 is sold in. It's also sold in Jamaica, Malaysia New Zealand and Hong Kong, and that's just the ones that I'm aware of there's probably more.
Dee T alright maybe I was being a bit overexcited with my use of “only” market... we’re definitely the only *volume* market for RHD CX-9 as Hong Kong has big tariffs on imported cars, NZ and Jamaica are tiny markets etc.
I love the CX 9, with all the included options its way a better option than a Highlander or Honda, you can get them way under MSRP, I have a 2019 GT CX -9 and just got another one for the wife, a 2020 GT which has even more option than the 2019 and it was actually cheaper than mine was when I got it.
I saw the car, and wanted to see the review, then I heard that infamous voice and got excited to hear the review.
Thanks for watching!!!
- Craig
Audio is fixed version. Thanks Road Show.
What crawled up his butt? He's so negative for such a positive car. The cx-9 is one of the best in it's class.
Definitely the coronavirus all the way to his mouth! His review is f*cking unbelievable. L🤣L
Maybe it’s just not his cup of tea....
he was too nice to it
its actually not...... go drive some other similar SUV's and you will see its actually behind the pack......
Top 3 and not 3
Love the design and interior on the Signature trim. It just falls short when compared to the Telluride/Palisade in value for money and practicality.
Yep, those Korean offerings are DAMN GOOD. It's amazing how far Kia and Hyundai have come. Thank you for watching!!!
- Craig
@@craigcole5497 True, I have found that they have really improved in the past 10 years. They were always know for good value but they have become more reliable, better looking and recently closer to Acura/Infiniti quality of interior materials. I may still test Drive the CX-9 and Atlas (I've been in all but the CX9) but I find they just don't match up with the Telluride and Palisade in person and on the spec sheet.
@@SSS-mp8th we have one and it's been great. It really does handle better than almost anything else in the class, but the interior is definitely a little more cramped. It really just comes down to do you want the space or a more fun to drive vehicle.
I would wait for the second or third generation of hyundai palisade before I own one, irrespective of the 10 year warranty. If you look at Hyundai Palisade customer complaint forums, they are having a field day down there.... from serious issues like engine not responding to driver input and malfunctioning transmission to obstructive wind noise from A-pillars to nitty gritty ones such as leather seats changing color and giving off a toxic odor.
What is the use of a 10 year warranty when half the time car is stuck at the dealers waiting for issue resolution.
Cars are meant to be driven without fear, and should provide some peace of mind. CX-9 provides this experience with tried and tested engine, 6-speed auto trans without going overboard on the installed fancy electronics. That said, they are so much engaging to drive compared to other Japanese brands, and interior design rivals that of Audi (which is the undisputed king of classic non-gawdy interiors).
I have owned an Audi A7 and could vouch for Mazda's interior quality. Also, reliability is not a joke even though it might not be as fun to drive as an Audi.
Was going to purchase a Palisade or Telluride before the CX-9 until I found out you have to pre-order the mid tier trim 5-6 months in advance because they are selling well.
The title says Touring, but the one in the video is a Signature. I've been looking for reviews of cheaper, lower trim Mazdas like Sport or Touring, and I was excited to watch this one, but it's not what I expected. Would you all consider reviewing the lower Mazda trims at any point?
You must prefer the bare bones entry level CX-9 he mentioned.
@@ivanlowjones I like seeing these cars with all the bells and whistles, but I also want to see something I can afford.
Ozamataz Buckshank I had the same issue!! I was looking all over the place for a review of a Touring, but everyone reviewed the top trim. I bought the 2020 Touring a few days ago, though, and I’m loving it!
I purchased a touring and its great.
Wish they made the Signature model with a panoramic moonroof
Thats my only wish. A panoramic moonroof would make this car sail over the competition.
Thanks! for a thorough, balanced and fair review of the CX-9.
I want to try this CX9 on sandunes and off road on tough road
Maybe you should look at a used a used mint Nissan Xterra or Toyota 4 runner..
I love Mazdas and the "vibe" associated with their marketing, their connected driving experience. But I love Craig even more. He could review a ham sandwich and I'd be entertained.
I have a 2017 GT.. it is simply fuckin awesome.. Yes there's some things I would like.. like a TILT seat that only surfaced in 2019.. But aside from that.. The interior and exterior and overall ride.. is dam perfect.. A tight cockpit but its ok..I would have liked as he said a little more pull power off the line.. but once it kicks in.. youre flying past the speed limit without realising it. awesome machine..
@BX0207 put it in Sport Mode
@@williamanderson3499 the you're really taking off.
I love my 2016 CX-9 GT. I hate that they have the Captains chairs on the top model now. I was going to get that one next. But I’ll stay with the GT.
rangergun it’s an option, you can still get a bench on the Signature trim. 👍
I like this guy a lot but i still miss Cooley
I do miss Mr Cooley, but I'm super content with Craig. Love this guy since his Autoguide days.
Great SUV wow
What if I use 90 octane?
Difference between this and sport?
I wish we had this in Europe 😪😪
Would benefit from some more power in the higher trims. Mazda is working on an inline 6 that should fit that need nicely. In the interim, 250 hp from a 2.5T is kind of low, and Mazda should push it closer to 300 hp, which is what Hyundai's 2.5T is going to make for example.
Did his “I’m sorry” set off anybody else Siri?
I had the CX-9 signature for a few years and overall was happy with it but I definitely wouldn’t recommend going off road with it and depended on heavy snowstorms
Curious about the snowstorms, were you on winter tires?
As the pretty one in this segment,,,,I'd still grab the Telluride!
Finally
This is the top trim. Not a touring
Needs Panoramic sunroof, electric folding mirrors, ventilated seats ...
Witsend Cottage The Signature has ventilated seats. It needs massaging seats.
The GT has electric folding mirrors and ventilated seats.
A panoramic sun roof would seal the deal for me. It already has the power folding mirrors and ventilated seats
The signature has ventilated seats and folding mirrors. He just failed to mention that in his review.
Six speed or a shitty CVT?. I'll take that six speed thank you.
that stick though ...
title says Touring but this is a SIGNATURE.....
Take 2 😂📣🎥
This is a good two row suv. Unfortunately it's priced like a three row but doesn't have a usable one. Then there is the dated tech. Even the interior is outdone by the Palisade/Telluride in top trims. Not sure why you would buy this severely compromised suv unless you only need two rows which is where the CX5 comes in
Do you have to bash on CX9/Mazda every time you troll on to any of its videos in YT? Why so much hate?
Should have shown the new Highlander.
I thought the cx9 was supposed to be more fun to drive than the highlander, according to this review it seems no different at all.
YMMV but this was the worst reviewer I’ve seen yet. Also - ‘practical’ for what? A family of 6, no. Family of 4? Sure. Family of 3? Definitely. I think the CX9 is clear in what it is - a slightly larger CX5, it’s not a minivan and it’s not trying to be. That’s fine. It’s also cheaper feature for feature than its peers.
Six speed gearbox?! Come ON Mazda... get with the new world.
If it ain't broke don't fix it ... Lol
quietguy it’s way better than a CVT
Drive one. It doesn’t need more ratios
It works perfectly fine, more doesn't always means better.
It is like blades in a shaver: more is better for marketing, but not for actual use.
in philippines its worth almost $60k for christ sake.
Yeah, would have prefered the cx-5 instead also has better fuel economy since it's light than cx 9. Damn if there were no heavy traffic these mazda would have been fun to drive. :D
come on, man, be kind. it’s bad enough no one is buying them, you couldn’t find it in your heart to make a nice review?
Whose partnered with Mazda now?
Toyota
COMPLETELY IRRITATING HOST!! Considering the great quality of previous hosts, he must be related to God to get this premium job. Count me out!
Yeah, I was wondering what the riddler from the Gotham series was doing here... 😅
STFU. He's funny.
🤣 this guy...
Terrible AWD system says Motor Trend. Most expensive to maintain too!
Are people even buying them that much?
no
Another 2 LT, another weak sister. Bring back the V6.
No v6? Mazda will tank eventually.
No sale here.
You missed the Subaru Ascent to compete with
Not the most practical if you have to load 3 ankle biters in the back bit other wise it out performs and out feels anything else in it's class and some luxury 3 row SUV's. Not an accurate review. There are not 2 sides to every story and we have to gat out of that mid set in this country.
How is this competing with the telluride, more like the sorento
not impresses with the telluride, but each to its own, i am not going off-roading in a $50 k car nor am i driving around with a boat on the back and my family isn't the Waltons, just me, eye candy and comfort are what I am looking for, the infotainment does not fit the standards of the rest of the car, great ones are expected nowadays, they could have just had Apple configure an iPad to go beautifully in there and they cost under $300, how hard could it be.

Dude is trying to be original and funny most of "points" are off and inaccurate.
Drive this car like you are allowed to drive Highlander and it will drive like Highlander , take it to more challanging road and it will destroy Highlander or Pilot of course you forgot to mention it.
So you have give a "stereotype" review , go and buy another boat in this class
I hope you understand that this was a subjective perspective. Let's not get too excited over an opinion.
boring review..
The Sexiest but No Balls! Really? Mazda’s Waisted opportunity. They came up with the sexiest looking/driving SUV and castrated it by giving it the weakest power train of all competition.Sales numbers never lie. As a manufacturer with CX9 Mazda failed to appreciate why consumers choose to shell out on SUVs. It’s not all looks, SUV should be able to tow. Try again Mazda.
