Man that front end looks so well sculpted. I really liked the Tundra, but I think this takes the cake for looks by far. Toyota might have taken forever to give us this all new model, but they really came out swinging. Kudos to them.
god i really love this thing, they knocked it out of the park with the design. Makes a good competetor for dad mobile right on par with something like a dodge durango
In 2016, I made sure Volvo installed a dark/black headliner in our 2017 XC-90 - the option was only $200 then. It is refreshing to see black headliner's once again though I wish there was an option for it at the lower Sequoia trims. Additionally, the running boards would be nice from the factory as an option but I'm sure aftermarket kits will come out eventually. Not having a larger wheelbase is a definite bummer, hopefully it is introduced before the midcycle refresh of this vehicle.
Great review. I like the new Sequoia overall. I currently have a 21 Yukon with the 3.0 diesel that I’m extremely pleased with, I have over 30k on it already in only 10 months! Was going to wait for the Toyota but really can’t complain about my choice, the Yukon averages 25 mpg which is amazing for such a big SUV.
kinda agreed but the headlights look super weird and small in person. I saw a new tundra on the road and those headlights man, idk they're just wack when you see how small they are in proportion to the vehicle. prior to seeing it in person i thought it looked great
Another great review Matt - thanks for putting this together. I’ve actually got a Tahoe RST w/ 6.2L, magnetic ride control, panoramic, etc. being delivered soon. Pretty much a loaded RST. Price comes in about $1000 under the Platinum Sequoia. Having driven the new Toyota, which would you go with?
It really depends on what you are looking for. Cargo/passenger space and ride quality? The Tahoe seems like a better option. MPGs and reliability? Probably Sequoia
@@jplay0426 I'd go with sequoia anytime, TRD Pro ofcs, if not, the R5 would do with that 9,500 pull of weight. Especially the modernization and ergonomics, it's a plus for me. cargo space is for Taho if you have a job that requires that much space ofcs.
@matt great review! Few questions for you - I am confused between TRD PRO & Platinum as I'll be driving on road 90-95% , I am wondering if TRD PRO's ride quality is worse than Platinum on road??
Good morning Matt! Hey I’m having trouble receiving your notifications even though I’m subscribed to you for years and have the notification button on. Has anyone else had that problem? So I have to manually search you up every 2 days just to be sure I’m not missing out on your content.
Sorry to hear that! I've heard some others that have similar issues, or UA-cam unsubscribes/hides the channel. For notifications, I'd just make sure that in your phone's setting you have notifications enabled for the UA-cam app. Otherwise I'd try unsubscribing and re-subscribing/turning on the bell. If that doesn't work then I dunno what else to do. Hopefully something fixes it for you!
I want to like the new Sequoia so bad, but man Toyota really dropped the ball with second row head space and everything behind the second row. Passenger and cargo space are paramount in this class and unfortunately the Sequoia falls short. I don’t hate it, but Expedition is still my fav in this class.
Big cars with big engines days are pretty much over in California where gas is like $7 per gallon and filling this up few times will cost more than the car payment.
Nicely sculpted! My big family have 5 Sequoias. They don’t fit into regular single car garage entrance with mirrors unfolded. Let’s see if the new Sequoia will pick up the sales.
I agree. I feel like all 7 passenger SUV’s can’t even fit a full sized stroller in the back. But I’d fold the third row and it’ll be perfect for a family of 4 or 5.
@Jean Toronto Raptors if I was going to lease I would the Tahoe or Yukon for short term but if I was going to buy for long term the sequoia is at the top list for sure.
I think Toyota should come out with a long wheel version of this truck just like the competitors (Escalade ESV & Expedition Max). If I am to buy this truck, I would only buy one with the long wheel base version.
Curious about the turning radius. I have a 2016 4Runner and the turning radius absolutely sucks!! I’m hoping it’s better on the new Sequoia because this is my dream car!
factoring in the new hybrid powertrain vs. the old Sequoia it's actually not that bad considering the performance boost and mpg gain for the added cost
I am loving this new Sequoia. I find it weird that out of all the reveal events, Toyota didn’t have the old Sequoia anywhere in sight, unlike the reveal of the new Lexus RX which they were proud to present the old and the new next to each other for the media to compare both. I wonder why? They keep claiming that the new one is 3” longer (wheelbase and total length) and yet they shy away from standing them next to each other. Of course the new one is light years better, the measurements just seem very dubious. 3rd row seating (yes there is a battery there now and the lack of independent rear suspension) seems much more cramped compared to last gen, it was definitely one of the better ones IMHO.
Instead of several luggage blocking visibility from the driver's eye, why not have the trunk of the vehicle have the dropped or similar to a crevice luggage area in the rear, instead. Luggage and other cargo should be more secured with the crevice roomy designed cargo area at the rear. Thanks for the demo. God bless. oct2022.
Capstone with a 2nd row bench option pls. Otherwise I have to go down to a Ltd to seat 8? Removable 3rd row too pls. Ridiculous. Otherwise a Ltd with trd trim is the way to go.
I'm glad Toyota is rolling out the all digital dash on more models now. "Analog" gauges are antiquated, my motorcycle came with a 5 inch TFT in 2015. Dial speedometers in particular are useless and I wish they weren't hogging so much area.
Dial speedometers are great. They instantly give you an idea of how fast you are. You take longer to read and process the information of just a number being displayed. I hate these displays, they all have ugly software running on them. The Toyota gauges were always simplistic and nice.
the headlight is so wide it's literally sticking out of the fenders lol. the rear tail lights remind me of the 90s Honda Odyssey mixed with highlander. not a fan of the Lego bulk exterior design but the interior is decent.
like it ..toyota went back to a soild rear axel ,only one that offers one, rest are indpendent rear axel the 3rd row takes up to much room when its folded
Great SUV. However, may have priced itself out of the ever growing higher cost gas driven large SUV market. More and more used car lots are featuring greater numbers of large SUV’s.
Swing and a miss. 3rd row compromised by engineers. Why couldn’t they make the 2nd row adjustable front/aft? Noticeably loud on the inside; laminated glass all around would have been better
There is always some compromise that you have to make with Toyota. In this case it’s passenger head room, and no flat folding or sliding seats. Just copy the damn Americans. It’s not that hard.
There is no way in hell gettin a car or suv with out panoramic sunroof and also open all the way like the Sequoia . Let that tall person sit cramped no big deal for me. Or sit in the second row and the shorter ones sit and the third row . The panoramic sunroof is top priority in my list actually not for me only even for my wife too 🤣😂🤣.

I like how this looks and great review but I just don’t need something this big so I can’t wait to see how the next gen of the 4Runner looks
This SUV can be like a light orange color I love it
Toyota really outdid themselves here. Finally updating tired technology and creating a really awesome looking truck

You are very well spoken Matt in all your presentations.
This is the closest thing we'll get to a Toyota-branded LX but it's still pretty nice!
I luv this color on the Sequoia.

Can the platinum, trd pro or capstone come with a bench row for the second row ?
These suv's are getting bigger in size but still surprisingly lacks trunk space behind the 3rd row.

You can't because the batteries are under the 3rd row seats. The seats are there to protect the battery.

Did anyone else notice the outgoing model drive past on the highway .

the lack of rear head room is a deal killer for me.
Why would they eliminate the rear window roll down. Best feature and now it’s the same as Expedition and Tahoe 😭😭😭
What's the wattage in the platinum for the speakers?

Toyota should have made the hybrid power train optional. It really penalizes this vehicle in the second and third rows
Huge improvement. I'm just surprised by the high prices and once at dealerships, add dealer mark ups. Most people wont be able to afford it.
factoring in the new hybrid powertrain vs. the old Sequoia it's actually not that bad considering the performance boost and mpg gain for the added cost
My deal isn’t adding mark ups to any sold by them
Does platinum have heads up display???
the front looks so much better than the tundra
I'd love this power train in the rav or highlander.
This is what this year’s tundra should have been
Where are the front tow hooks?
Does it have limited electric only range, similar to Volvo XC90, BMW X5?
