I really love the look of the Sequoia but the GrandHighlander just seems much more practical as a family vehicle!
I'm the same! I really REALLY want to love the Sequoia but the GrandHighlander seems like the better option. I don't even care about the finishes (soft touch, leather etc.) but if they could put the look of the Sequoia into the GH I would be sold, or if they put some of the nice features of the GH into the Sequoia (for example the increased trunk space)
🤯🤯🤯
There’s a big price difference that’s why no one would choose the Sequoia
@@MrKurdkiller grand Highlander is cheaper and can fit up to 8 that’s a no brainer
I think everyone missed one thing. Difference in driving Sequoia/GH. Inside City on parking lots and small streets or off road inside forest or mountain narrow roads... Sequoia is enormously big and for regular driver it's challenging to operate this car in these environments. So, besides all +/- individual needs, try to imagine pull in to garage or park on a streets or navigate narrow roads...
Grand highlander looks like a winner

I wish they did a comparison of the 2023 4runner and 2024 grand highlander
Actually, it's a Rav4 Max. Sequoia plus 3 points because it's a body-on-frame vehicle.
Grand highlander front looks like a fish 🐟 . Back looks like a stretch rav4. They should have just called it the grand rav4. It's not good-looking. How can you make a car thats supposed to look lik3 the highlander but better look like a stretch rav4. If I'm paying that type of money for this car which is 50k plus. I'm not trying to buy something that looks like a stretch 30k suv.
Really hard choice, if I want to tow stuff absolutely the Sequoia, but the Highlander with the smoother ride and really good gas mileage is super super appealing. Thank you for the review. Really helpful!
Glad you liked it!
I would go for 1st or 2nd Gen Sequoia for towing and space, and reliability (2nd gen actually has more space than 3rd gen, and 1st gen is the most reliable out of the three).
Grand Highlander is great for comfort and gas mileage in its class.
I really wanted to get the sequoia but after reading about how cramped the third row was i had to go with the GH. Our main usage is taking family trips which includes some of my extended family so space is a must. The hybrid max is such a nice touch too. Its so peppy i almost dont know im speeding.
Grand Highlander ❤ So beautiful!! Thanks for the info!
Our pleasure!
If you're not towing large trailers or doing heavy off-roading, then the Grand Highlander is sufficient for all your needs. You don't need to spend more money on buying the Sequoia.
Who buys a car on the basis of mere sufficiency?
Excellent comparison! like the way you guys review! Keep up the good work
Thanks, will do!
Alongside of some other reasons. Sequoia is unreasonably expensive. Better off with Highlander. Sequoia size is not good for off-road and City driving. Just if you have enough money to decorate your driveway, get sequoia and park it there. 😄
The Grand Highlander is Really Awesome
I think it really depends on what you’re trying to get out of the vehicle. Towing or occupancy. Imo a solid rear axel should fair better in off-road adventures. But if that’s not a priority, the grand highlander is a great option!
Great video, I prefer the Grand Highlander, but I’d personally go for a loaded Highlander.😸
you guys helped me during my search for a new car and now i stay for the vibes. if im getting it: if you need the Sequoia, get a Tahoe. But, you probably don't so go for the G. Highlander cause its great.
Spot on, toyota full size trucks just don’t compare to domestics. R&R for Toyota is spent on the mid sizers
I’ve had a sequoias for over 20 years and have ordered the Toyota Grand Highlander. Don’t need the towing and I will get better gas mileage.
Grand highlander looks cool
Toyota Grand Highlander for me guys.
This is a great comparison, I currently own a 2022 Toyota Highlander and love it, however, looking to purchase a new one, but wanted more of an off-road vehicle. This comparison sums it up as I would lean more towards the grand Highlander due to comfort space and fuel economy.
Grand Highlander for us. I like the interior i/p layout better as well. Not too crazy about the big open pocket forward of console for the phones. grand Highlander looks more refined and better use of space along with rear cargo space behind 3rd row etc.
Great information you guys just help on my next two purchases! Thanks!
Glad to hear it!
We have a 24 grand highlander limited and took it on a 2K mile road trip. Did amazing and averaged about 32 mpg on the highway. We have a 2 year old toddler and a 3 month old. With cars eats, a large cooler, 2 suitcases, and all the stuff kids come with, the grand highlander had room for everything and was really comfortable to drive throughout the entire trip. I would highly recommend it especially if you consider the weird storage spacing in the Sequoia
You guys have great Cotent. Thanks for your input on these vehicles
Thanks for watching!
Thank you guys
We have a 2003 Sequoia and have long been a fan
But being in our 70s we were excited to see the Grand Highlander come out which probably better meets our needs. The one thing that should be interesting is what will the Lexus version of this be like with the same drive trains . Great video.
Its been revealed. Look up lexus TX
Thanks!
Or if they make a land cruiser

Any chance you’ll be willing to sell your ‘03 Sequoia?
For me it is hard to choose but I will go for the sequoia cuz of the toughness and capability that it has got.
I like the seqouia more because of the power. Also the 2 tone seats seems much nicer than the Grand Highlanders
brilliant way to compare two very competitive options. I am doing the research and wanting to be able to commit to one of the two. Now this video helped me with the selection. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Great comparison and video, gentlemen - looks like my wife is getting the Grand Highlander and I’m getting the Sequoia. Less cabin noise, a spacious interior for visiting relatives + baby makes the Grand Highlander perfect for her. The Sequoia has _proper_ 4x4 off-road capability + a suspension designed for towing + mad turbo power/torque- that’s a cinch for me 👌🏽
Still the AWD Sienna for me
I would buy a Sequoia because they look better and I need the towing!! 😁
Grand Highlander ALL THE WAY!
I was for sequoia but ride quality and rear suspension part is making me change my mind.
Really love the screen in Sequoia. It's evened out
Wait, the Grand Highlander's side mirrors don't have auto dimming? I thought they had that feature of the platinum.
I started off looking at the Grand Highlander Hybrid MAX Platinum as our new family car, since we're adding a fifth member in several months. However, I wanted to look at the alternatives, and your reviews and the reviews of others have helped me decide that the one I'm going to go with is the Grand Highlander. I looked at the Lexus TX, the Hyundai Palisade, the Honda Pilot, the regular Highlander, and the Mazda CX-90, but every time I see a comparison done, I'm left with the firm conviction that the Grand Highlander is the best one for us, so that's what we'll be going with.
Great video.
Great video!
Thanks!
Grand Highlander hands down. Sequoia is a big failure this generation. That almost non existent cargo space and 3rd row room is a huge letdown. Another big con is a poor MPG, especially compared to Grand Highlander - which is a bigger car inside!
I'm on the market looking to trade my 2011 Toyota Highlander. I thought this comparison was going to make it easy to choose but I'm torn. The good thing is your video helped highlight the difference. I like the look (interior and exterior) of Sequoia, and the MPG and the space in the back for Grand Highlander.
Why can't we get best of both worlds? Com'on Toyota!
Sounds like you need the Lexus TX
@@Quake105 Thinking about GX 550 Premium
Can you guys please compare 2024 Navigator Black Level vs 2024 Escalade sport platinum?
I would pick the Sequoia..just because I would like to tow more..great as always guys!!!
Thanks!
I’m 6’0” and the lumbar support on regular highlanders hits my back too low for me and is uncomfortable. Did Toyoya use Gh driver seat similar to Highlander or more like the bigger Sequoia?
Do you know if the GH lumbar is higher than regular highlanders?
The seats are very similar to the regular Highlander
They have a Grand Highlander at Suprise Toyota here in Arizona for 52k exactly like this one completely loaded in pearl !
Excellent! I'm looking at the Grand highlander but torn on the Hybrid Max and Hybrid. The HP in the max is why i'm leaning there but That gas mileage on the basic though. decisions decisions.
Great video comparison. Leaning towards Grand Highlander. I don't tow anything.
We just got a new sequoia, after a suburban it felt the best. Handles way better and more fun to drive.
GH for me. Dealer included a bunch of add-ons and to top it off - nitrogen in the tires - all at list price of TSRP! 😀
Which one would be better for the family green Highlander or Sequoia?
Did you all notice the Bubble at the bottom door of your Sequoia door panel? Is it a paint protection? Or Factory defects?
I wll waiit for the new Land Cruiser or the new Lexus GX
What about the difference in interior amenities and space between the grand highlander and sienna
Excellent videos friends, but I would like you to be able to make a versus between "Mazda CX90 2024" and "Subaru Ascent (Evoltis, it will depend on the market where they sell it) 2024". "2024 Mazda CX90" versus "2024 Toyota Grand Highlander." And talk to versus also who the "Mazda CX60" competes with.
made our choice; our GH should be in our driveway some time this month. It typically takes us years to find our next vehicle, keeping all [decided] important attributes in mind. Our platinum comes with not only the features we're looking for, but multiple extras that sealed the deal. Our only concern is this being the inaugural year (and we typically don't buy those), will she be everything we've come to know and expect from Toyota? Our 4Runner was purchased brand new in 1987 and lasted over twenty years. Here's to hoping for another twenty years of fond memories!
Grand highlander for sure. Thanks for this video 😊
Great review guys. Sequoia all the way. The power, size, stability and Lexus like interior are game changers. I can see roaring across Texas all day long with confidence and security
Comfortable and quiet ride are important attribrutes to my wife and I. Is there a way to turn-off the V8 sound that comes in the Sequoia through its speaker system? And if we can do so, is ther a large difference in the quietness of the cabin in the Sequoia now, compared to that of a Grand Highlander 8 speed Gas Only Limited trim? Please, let us know. Thank you!! Gabriel C
Excellent comparison, did you feel the height difference? Ground clearance?
There's a little bit of a difference but it's not too noticable
No doubt about it... 2023 Capstone Sequoia for me 😊 for beauty, power, and strength... but I have a 2022 Highlander Platinum Hybrid right now, don't know if I can afford the Capstone
Thank you! We have a Tundra, so it looks like we’ll keep it and trade up from a Rav4 to the Grand Highlander due to family transportation needs.
Having transitioned from a last gen Suburban, the Sequoia seemed to make more sense for us. FAR better fuel economy and the Capstone is gorgeous inside. Combined with Toyota reputation and reliability, it was a no brainer to leave the GM models behind. Love this video and certainly makes a really compelling case for the Grand Highlander. In the end, I really like the feel and durability of a body on frame vehicle. Also, our kids are growing up and 2/3 are of driving age. So we have much fewer instances when all of us are riding in the car together. So I think if my kids were younger, the Grand Highlander would likely have been my choice. Which is why I had a Suburban in the first place. Either way you go, these are both class leading vehicles with amazing quality and very impressed with these hybrid powertrains!
The main Vs i want to see is the Telluride top trim vs the Grand Highlander top trim. Love you guy's videos.
Thanks!
I love the Grand Highlander Hybrid Max! My only problem is that I would want a bench seat in the second row, and unfortunately, Toyota doesn’t provide an 8-seat configuration on the Hybrid Max (both Limited and Platinum!). I really wish they added it to at least the Limited
It is available for limited in the US
@@candicekarp4287 I don’t think its available on Limited Hybrid Max. Just on the Gas Model and regular Hybrid
Yes I believe you are correct, it is not on any of the max drives 😕
@@candicekarp4287there's a particular reason why that is -- one involves the airbag system for the bench seat, and how it relates to the wiring and module location for the hybrid max system. A lot would have to be changed to make it work just for that one model that probably wouldn't sell a ton.
I love this comparison
It depends if you want off road or on road performance
Very nice presentation ❤
Thank you! Cheers!
I'm a sucker for a luxury SUV so I'm drawn to the Grand Highlander. However, that Sequoia Capstone is sexy as hell. I think I'd have to give the nod to the Sequoia. Nice review, guys! Thank you!
You didn’t mention about the TSS 2.5 vs TSS 3
Sequoia is esthetically more appealing, BUT, the Highlander is better gas mileage and way more cargo space. Another big con for the Sequoia is that the 3rd row seats don't fold flat down like the Highlander, which is a huge inconvenience, especially just trying to do regular things like putting groceries in the trunk. I would purchase the Highlander over Sequoia. Its more practical and functional. I bet if Toyota added the two tone seats like Sequoia people would just buy the Highlanders.
I don't know if it was mentioned in the video, but does the Sequoia or Grand Highlander top trim come with ambient lighting??
the grand highlander is 4 cylinder hybrid? no 6 cylinder options available?
That is correct
I would prefer the grand highlander, but need the Sequoia simply because of that running board that automatically comes out from the sign with an elderly parent I need them to be able to get into the vehicle
Can you compare the Land cruiser to the Highlander or is the Highlander bigger?
Do all Toyotas are noisy after 45 MPH? The air through the windows is terrible
Captain chairs remind me of a mini van. If either has 2nd row bench seat, thats the one id prefer
Between the two the grand highlander by far
I think I will switch to Grand Highlander instead of Sequoia. Thank you young men for the detailed information.
You're welcome! Glad we could help!
With the new Grand Highlander out, it will be hard to sell the Highlander.
Turn the Highlander into a 2 row SUV and kill the Venza again as next gen RAV4 will grow to Venza size like most of its competitors
I just didn't see the point of changing the highlander instead of just stretch it like most car companies does.
@@fakedazzlefulthey did that to the RX, making the RX-L, and look how poor it performed both in space and especially that non-existent third row situation. Toyota learned from that mistake, and delivered properly with the GH.
@@chezzyperson3339 Venza and RAV4 are same size lol. You are probably mistaken for old Venza - that one is killed long time ago.
The Sequoia is such a conundrum of a full-size SUV. The overall design seems to take a step back over the previous 15-year old design in terms of structure. The packaging is terrible for something so large. Jeep, Ford, and GM somehow managed to use the same 208-210" of footprint and offer a vastly interior experience. It would be forgiven that the Toyota used the solid axle out back for towing, but the Wagoneer(9800lbs) and Ford(9200) tow more with their IRS. And $80K is tough to swallow against the likes of the GMC Yukon Denali(and its available diesel that offers better real world fuel economy over the Toyota).
The Grand Highlander on the other hand, seems to check most boxes of the midsize class. Feature-rich, fuel efficient, and room for days, it will put up a tough fight against the H/K twins, GC-L, Pilot, etc(although the Mazda is the new luxury king of the mainstream).
Also, Toyota barley put any money into the new Sequoia when it came to the DNA design. I personally don’t mind the flaws of the cargo space, but my favourite full-size and what I think is the best pick is the Ford Expedition albeit it’s horrendously refreshed interior.
Actually, the Sequoia has already revised its max towing capacity at 9,520 pounds, which just bests the Expedition's max (9300 pounds) and is only behind the Wagoneer's max (10,000 pounds). in terms of the previous generation's interior space, the only flaw is really the high seating position which means taller people or people with tall torsos won't be able to fit comfortably. a lot of the compromises has to do with the Sequoia almost being discontinued until the lead engineer Mike Sweers was able to convince the board in Japan that the Sequoia can still exist albeit with compromises such as being a hybrid only, sliding third row but a stationary second row, and either class trailing or mid-pack cargo space behind the third row along with no more sliding rear window, just a pop-up window like a Tahoe and an Expedition
Many of the reviewer's oversight is the width and shoulder room. This will significantly impact comfort in the 2nd 3rd row especially when you have people side by side.
Sequoia- overcompensate
Grand Highlander- true family man
Grand Highlander for me, except for the captains chair problem (can’t get the highest trim with a 2nd row bench, not even an option.) Which probably means I will get the new Pilot Elite, with it’s removable center section of the 2nd row bench.
Even though I tow, The GH is a better option for our family. A lot of features of our sienna in the GH while not sacrificing MPG. Plus it can still tow the SidebySide at under 4k weight.
probably should note that I have a 2020 Tundra to tow if needed in other situations.
If only toyota will stop making the remote start as a subscription. We pay so much, and we still continue to pay a basic feature??
Remote start is free, the app is the one you subscribe to
@@kromahj Really? Google searches say models from 2018 and above will have their key fob remote start be part of the subscription. Some people state that their key fob remote start stopped working. But I couldn't confirm myself because I haven't owned a Toyota yet but am planning to buy one. I just feel cheated by the fact that I have to pay for the remote start.
Oh wow, cuz I have a camry I can start it with my key fob and I don't have subscriptions

Great review! Actually was looking into the Sequoia, Tahoe, and upcoming Lexus TX (which is based off the GH) and seeing this review tilts me more towards the TX since it should have the seating comfort/cargo space that I want. Also, can't beat that mpg for long trips!
Glad it was helpful!
How does the GH do compared to a Volvo XC90 T6?
GH is more practical for families
I’d like to watch TX vs LX also
The grand highlander only supports a four pin connection for towing, so no electric brakes and safety features will need to be turned off as with cruise control. It would be nice to do a full towing comparison for 5000 pounds and under. You can add a seven pin connector with 12v power to support a wireless brake controller and send power to the trailer, but you still have the limitations of limiting safety features and convenience features like cruise control.
Grand Highlander better choice. More comfortable and quiet ride, much less cost. Mutch better fuel economy, more practical car. It iss better car for less money overall
I had my heart set on a new Sequoia but after watching this comparison video I think I would rather have the Grand Highlander. We currently have a 2023 highlander hybrid and I love my car but need more space in the 3rd row and more cargo space!
Wait, you have a 2023 hybrid Highlander and it's smaller than the grand? So grand is worth getting and not regular highlander?
@@alvinsingh9750 yes! The grand has more 3rd row space and cargo space!
Let me know what trim your highlander is, and if you wanna upgrade, i might buy it off your hands.
@@thetruthyes sorry we already sold it.
@@CramerCrew ok. You got the grand highlander ?
Meant to add we had a Sequoia for years, i loved it it, but I’m all about a smoother ride.
As well, can you guys can someone tell me which one will use less gas for a long drive?
The Grand Highlander
I’ll take the sequoia cause I love the bigger room, power, panoramic roof, two tone seats and overall height and grill
Grand Highlander is my choice of SUV.
But is 4 cylinders too small for the grand highlander?
Hi can you tell me what’s the head difference between them for the driver seat? I’m a 6’4” 300 lbs. Plus which one would give me the best comfort for my size? Thanks 😊
Grand Highlander has higher roof space in cabin. Sequoia is squished like Tacoma - due to higher ground clearance.
The Sequoia's seats have less aggressive bolstering and have more adjustments, so that would be the more comfortable choice for you. Thanks for watching!
Guys thanks for your Video and my question is between Toyota grand highlander and Lexus to 500
Can you do the Grand Highlander vs Lexus TX?
Once the TX comes out later this year, absolutely!
Grand highlander
I dont know why the Grand Highlander Hybrid MAX uses a 6 speed when the regular hybrid and regular gas variants use an 8 speed
They need to make a grand sequoia.
So the Sequoia is large on the outside but smallish on the inside. What's the point? Why did Toyota decide to scrimp on the interior space? Isn't that the point of having a Sequoia? Sounds like the new Sequoia is smaller on the inside than my 2005!
Yes, unfortunately this generation Sequoia is a failure.
