Good idea! TPMS light has been on since I bought my 07 5 years ago. I remember pulling the bulb out of my old 89 Honda CRX but figured it wouldn’t be that easy for newer cars. But covering it up works too!
Not seeing the light is the same as it being off right? LOL its like the old saying, "if a tree falls down in the woods and no one is there to hear it, does it really make a sound?"

I tried to reset it many times.. just to learn later on that I dont have TPMS sensors inside lol but call me stubborn or something I just went and installed TPMS sensors myself and programed them.. so far its been good
Thanks as always for your help! I just did the black tape trick on mine and it worked like a charm. Of course I reprogrammed my clock and radio before remembering I'll need to unhook the battery and drive back and forth a couple times to clear the VDC/Slip lights, but no big deal.
I got my 2006 xterra s used. It never had the TPMS light and no sensors in the rims. Wondering if someone did this to mine or if it just didn't have it from the factory?
Not sure about your 05, but on my '11 not only will I get a light but I'll also get a warning message in the odometer area. So in my case, I have to replace the TPMS sensors.
Do you know if the LED lights in the "motherboard" are that orange tint themselves or is there a film? I've never been a big fan of the orange lights on there and if I end up going through this whole process to get the sensor light to go away, I would like to see if I could take off the orange tint to maybe just a white color.
@Jared S Don’t listen to this tool bag, He is just a UA-camr pretending to be a mechanic! The answer is yes the LED bulbs that light up your dash are orange, And yes you can replace those bulbs with any color you would like! There is a video on UA-cam showing how it was done on a Nissan, He changed his dash from orange to blue! If you remove your instrument cluster and send it to an electronic shop they should be able to do that for you fairly cheap, If you are experienced with micro soldering and have the tools you can do it yourself! In that video they even give you the part number and website where you can order the replacement bulbs for your dash, It is not hard at all I did the dash in my 06 Frontier! If I find the video I will come back and post a link!
I just did this today bit unfortunately I didn't see that the black layer lifted off of the cluster so I can see the tape from the outside now. I don't really mind, but if I ever have the cluster out again I'll swap it to the stealth mode location.
Question what color are the lights I am so tired of the amber color and trying to figure a way to change the color and while doing this seems like the perfect time to do it.
The TPMS light on my 2012 X started lighting up intermittently recently. Now I finally know what the problem is. Never realized that the TPMS sensors have batteries that eventually run out.
@@KaiAdventure Yes. Generally the price of the new batteries or sensors are factored into the cost of new tires. At least where I get my tires it is and they are warrantied as well.
My Xterra is a 2012 PRO-4X and it has the light but it also flashes "Check" "Tire" "Pressure" in the LCD area where the odometer is. I think it was on the odometer side, it might have been on the RPM side. I just got my Xterra and it had a low tire so the light and flashing text was on. Aired it up & drove it for 10 mins and they both went away. But I am considering doing a 2" lift and larger tires that would aired down when off roading. Or maybe even run at a lower pressure than the stock tires all the time. Covering the light up is a good solution for the light, but what about the blinking text in the LCD area? Any clue how it can be just completely disabled? I notice that your cluster only has one LCD area at the Odometer but the 2012 also has an LCD on the RPM gauge side that shows the 4WD/4WDLow/2WD indicator. I am OCD and blinking lights or warning lights or in this case flashing text would drive me completely crazy LOL It is crazy that they do not give you a way to disable this system in the event of a tire size change out.
Well, it's all BS laws. TPMS was mandated by the federal government under the TREAD act. So, no one will disable it for you, and you can't do it yourself. It's insane. But I didn't even think about the LCD screen cause my Xterra is the super basic one.
I was going to do this a few years ago but I was afraid of removing the instrument cluster for fear of not having it working on reinstallation. I had the tpms sensors replaced when I needed new tires at Walmart. It was very reasonable. Now I am dealing with a persistent P0442 small evap leak code every few days. Tell me how to disable that system as I have gone the route of new gas cap, evap solenoid. I currently have the canister exposed (getting at it is a real joy). Looking for leaks at o rings on the canister.
To find that Evap leak you’re gonna want someone to smoke it.. finding that leak without smoke is going to be next to impossible. If it’s not the cap or solenoid.. inspect the canister, hoses, and fuel neck. It’s hard to inspect without the use of smoke though. Disabling the anti-pollution system is darn near impossible. You can remove the light bulb for the check engine light but it’ll never pass inspection with that code- the code will still be stored. At least have it smoked so you don’t have to guess what it is. 100-150$.

Ry, do you know if the TPMS system is involved in traction control at all? If the car uses it to sense wheel speed and activate traction control, I would rather replace the batteries/sensors than replace the light since I would want to have fully functional traction control/VDC. Hoping to avoid paying a lot to have them replaced next time I get my tires rotated and balanced.
The wheel speed sensor in the hub is what determines wheel speed. on some newer cars it might play a role (never heard of it) but in these Xterras it's just telling pressure.
I have attempted to turn all the lights white before and there's actually a reset you can do to reset the entire board as long as all the dials sit on factory positions.

I didn't think I'd need it either, experience has told me otherwise. Every time the light came on solid has been from a low tire pressure.
