    I can’t believe how fast Russel is growing! Next time Cora lunges at Smeagle, or anything on your farm - don’t pet her, scold her with a firm loud “CORA, NO!”, because by petting her, you’re basically telling her that it was ok to lunge at Smeagle, dogs don’t understand vocabulary, but she would understand your actions. ❤️

      I have an Aussie that is considered a "dangerous dog." Sometimes he looks fine to other people, but I'll see something in his eyes that's changed, or something about him just seems different. It's annoying when people don't heed my warnings. Most of the time, he's just the sweetest, big baby, but he's very discriminating about who he decides to be sweet to.

    Kora needs to be taught that it is not okay, for two reasons. One the safety of Smeagle and two for the safety of Russel. If she gets that way over Smeagle stealing her treats, then she might even turn on her own pup Russel for stealing her food. Mom instincts in dogs only goes so far once they get bigger. Please look out for Smeagle and Russel. Would hate to see anything bad happen to either of them from an over protective Food Driven Kora.

    Please don't let Cora kill that cat. I think when you pet her right after she lunged at him you probably reinforced that bad behavior. "You pet it you get it." Smeegle (sp?) is the sweetest cat and it would be awful if she got him. She wasn't messing around.

    Kevin, take cuttings from the new spring growth on your Rose of Sharon about 4-10" long. Strip off most of the leaves but leave the top ones on the cutting. You can dip the stem in rooting hormone powder and either push the cutting into a container with sterile soil (like seed starting mix) or some people are able to just poke them in the ground where you want them and they should take. So you don't have to wait another year, I'd try both ways. Tip is every place on the stem where a leaf was is where it will set root, so it makes sense to cut the 10" ones to go in the ground and shorter ones in a clear plastic cups and you'll be able to see the roots to know when to plant them. Just keep them slightly damp until they're established. Good luck! Blessings, Texas Deb ❤️

    I really like Rachel’s idea about feeding stations for the dogs. Kora cannot be allowed to rehearse dangerous behavior. She has the least amount of training and gets away with the most. Reasons aside, she is resource guarding and has started lunging, she won’t stop with Smee. She’s way too powerful to be allowed to act however she pleases. She is a very sweet dog and it would be heartbreaking if she injured or killed because she believed she could create her own boundaries. Build Rachel’s idea asap. You can always modify it as you see how it’s working. ❤

    My rose of sharon is 50 years, or more, old and it has never produced a seed or spread in any other way. BUT, the wisteria will spread and take over everything, unless you want it to. You must keep the yard mowed around the wisteria to keep new ones from growing because they grow from the Vine! Wherever the vine grows it will produce shoots of more wisterias.

    Boy do I wish I could send you pictures. Rose of Sharon spread like rabbits having babies. They are taking over every side of my back yard. The hummingbirds love them too. The island down the street has so many of them that neighbors clip them back because they are taking over down there. Wisteria is beautiful and you can put something behind it so it can grow what ever you put there. We started to put veggies in the raised garden beds and then certain places in Maryland got frost. They always say wait until Mother's Day to plant. We started the seeds inside and veggies were growing so big. Frost didn't hurt us this time. Good luck with your planting. May the Lord continue to Bless you and your family and friends and your critters.🙏🙏🕊️ Peace and Love 💕 from Maryland ❤

    Check the plant tag on that wisteria that you got. There are some varieties of wisteria that are extremely aggressive growers and are invasive. They are still sold in various stores. Chinese wisteria (wisteria sinensis) and Japanese wisteria (wisteria floribunda)are both invasive. They will grow over anything in their path. They will choke out other trees and plants. wisteria is a beautiful plant, but you have to watch it. The roots will send out runners and try to spread, if it gets to trees and even fences, it will climb all over it. The fence might be ok, but it will kill trees if allowed to climb. Most people who want to have wisteria will build a structure to let it grow on.

    Wisteria is beautiful and smells awesome, but be careful, they will take over and grow huge and heavy!!! When I lived in Florida we had a huge pine tree covered in wisteria...it eventually took that tree down and barely missed our house.

    Rachel that is a great idea about a feeding station for the dogs. I was sad to see Kora lunge at the cat. Had it been a child hitting another child the child would be put in time out! I love the plants. I really love the honeysuckle for sure. 🤗🤗💞💞💙💙

    The pollinators will love your Wisteria Vine. Something you should know about them. The main stem, will get really big and heavy and they’re very aggressive. It grows really big and the stems will get big too. Not sure if your wire fence will hold it up. I could see it growing on a really sturdy wood fence, a very sturdy pergola or a very sturdy big trellis. They are beautiful, but do need really sturdy support. On the way back to Iowa from Florida, in the spring, we saw them growing up and through trees along the interstate through Georgia. They were beautiful. I would do some research on wisteria vines and see what you think is a good support for your vine. In your area, with the warmth, it should grow great.

    • @theresateegarden9147
      @theresateegarden9147 Місяць тому +2

      Yes you will need something very, very sturdy to hold it up. The vines will attach to everything around it. The blooms are beautiful and very fragrant

    • @juli_m8014
      @juli_m8014 Місяць тому +1

      Yes wisteria can become invasive. They need strong support and regular gardening maintenance to keep it in check. Agreed it is very beautiful on a pergola.

    • @jbyrd4728
      @jbyrd4728 Місяць тому +1

      Steel posts are needed for support for wisteria. You can keep it trimmed into a sort of bush, but you have to keep at it. Root cuttings, cut the stem with at least a couple of leaf nodes to bury in potting soil after you dip the stem in rooting hormone. Pot and cover with an empty clean plastic 2 liter bottle with the top trimmed off. Like a green house. Bright light not direct Sun until you see leaves growing, then remove the bottle and move outside. Rose of Sharon is a type of hibiscus!!

    To prevent Hummingbirds and other birds from flying into your windows there is a good effective remedy.
    There are pretty and decorative window clings that can be put on the windows. They come in various sizes and shapes. They look pretty and whimsical. They peel off easily to clean windows. But the birds will see the colorful clings and not fly into the windows.

    • @coleneritchie5625
      @coleneritchie5625 Місяць тому

      I have several clings on my front windows. They are iridescent, and when the sun shines on them they are very pretty, but they are NOT keeping birds from hitting the windows. May be that colorful clings would show up better. I’ll have to get some with color. Hopefully they will work.

    I didn't want to comment anything negative, so: I love the new plants, especially the ones for the bees. I would like to make a suggestion about your cypress tree though. I like it too, but I think it's too close to your house. If you look at how wide the tree is supposed to be when it's full grown, divide that by 2, add 1 ft or, 12 inches, then that is how far away from your house it should be planted right now. That gives the tree enough room to grow nice and big and round instead of having to bow at the top or press against your house when it's full grown. Sorry for being negative - you are doing such a great job and your yard and animals always look so good!
