"I use it a lot, I've put 10k miles over 7 years"
I lol'd.
Well considering it doesn't have a roof plus he's a kind of guy to have about 10 or more cars, I'd say 10k in 7 years is plenty, I drive about 20 miles a day so I'd drive that distance in about a year in a half, and it's my only car
As a 550 owner, it is nice to see this review and hear the shared appreciation for these fine cars. Last of the classic "analog" manual V12 Ferraris...
Is 22,000 miles, really "a lot"? I understand it's a Ferrari but a 21 year old car you'd expect a lot more, in my opinion.
@@JulianWatsonThe400 22k is a lot for most cars like that, no matter the age. Almost none are daily driven. Just taken out on the weekends and such.
How many 550’s are out there?
@@user-zd8vg1nl5gHe says all the numbers in the video.
Can I have a million dollars?
This is one of the best eras of Ferrari design. The earlier little brother model 456 is one of my all time favourites.
Can I ask what country you are in?
I love the 456! So under rated in my opinion.
Best era was 2010-2018
@@ryand4533 Underrated is an understatement! I rarely see anything about it.
456 was the big brother in the range, the larger 4-seater GT. But it came before.
Thanks Mr. Leno for another great Ferrari history lesson, I know you don’t drive many Ferraris, but this one ,even though it’s a 2001 is a true classic🙏🏽
Sending well wishes to Jay on a speedy recovery ❤️🩹
What happened
@@ananayjoshi he got third degree burns on his face when his Stanley steam car sprayed burning petroleum all over him.
He got into another accident recently. Motorcycle accident.
I rocked this car on NFS Hot Pursuit 2 all the time. Love it!!
Watched all episodes but this is my dream car finally on the show!!
This in silver, over the hardtop any day! What a beautiful combination of design and materials!
The tipo F133 is a fabulous design by Pininfarina, Lorenzo Ramaciotti. Clean, athletic and tastefully refined. This must have been the last year of its production as the 575M took over (still as tipo F133). Their sequential successors, tipo 141 (599) and tipo 140 (F12) both look astonishing as well. It is when the 812 came about, that I’ve lost quite some interest tbh as it tends to look at tad vulgar to my taste. This 550 Barchetta is such a treat to the eyes. Thank you both for showing.
I didn't know Pininfarina designed the engine too.
A Ferrari on Jay Leno’s channel ?? What is this my birthday?
The metal clicking of the shifter is a cool sound on this car. 👌
Having been lucky enough to drive a Barchetta for almost 2 decades I can say with some certainty that the car was never offered with a “Fiorano Handling Pack”. Amazing steering, great Bilstein shocks and boy, does she love to dance!
Nice
Yeah the 575m in 2002 was the only one to have the Fiorano Handling Pack as an optional extra.
I'm not a big Ferrari guy, but I always loved that particular design. It's got a hint of Aston Martin styling.
Saw 550s race in GT at Le Mans when they were new, I've always loved them. Although I prefer the standard Maranello wheels to the Speedlines on this Barchetta special.
Great show Jay, beautiful Ferrari and a very knowledgeable guest. Always a big bonus when the owner is a car guy! Nicely done, thanks.
I think because of The styling is more from my youth, I love this model. There's just something about it that looks sophisticated.
Right there with you brother.
this would be on the wish list, V-12, gated shifter and open air.
That is a beautiful automobile, very classic modern.
One of my all-time favorite Ferrari models.
So glad they brought this car on. What a beautiful, beautiful machine. Thank you Jay and co.
Jay this is literally my dream car. If I win the lottery tonight or whenever this is what I would be buying first. I’m can’t express how happy I am for you to do a review on the car. That is amazing!!!! Hope you are in safe health. My brother has been a big fan since the tonight show days!!!!
Hope you get it one day!
I've always loved the front engine V12 Ferraris. I can't think of one I dislike. Thank you for bringing this stuff to us Jay.
Jay is two years younger than I and we share the same passions about all things mechanical, the gated Ferrari shifter is as Jay described. Think of chambering a round in a Weatherby rifle or the loud clicks made when winding a vintage Rolex, ah, exquisite! Drive on, brutha!
i say this'll be a priceless classic in the future. what you say? the design is beautiful like the 60's ferrari. pure driver. yea i say that it'll be viewed like the 60's
Thanks for another great start to the week Jay!
I'm glad that whoever runs Jay's UA-cam site fixed this. This morning, this Ferrari video had a wrong title, Mercedes something or other. Jay will be proud, good work guys! 😊
Congratulations 🎊🎉 you have been as a great winner for the ongoing giveaway contest text me above
Hell Yea! Jay always has the coolest videos, I wish he could start doing 2 or 3 new ones a week, (but hell) he does have a life to live, he can't spend all he's time making videos.
Pininfarina designed body and a Ferrari V12, the perfect combo. This, the 550 Maranello and the 575m are such beautiful cars. Sculpted and flowing lines with the classic two rear tail lights on each side. The Barchetta has appreciated in value a lot over the years.
Pininfarina designed timeless cars, full of style and elegance. They are beautiful in all periods.
Don't forget the 456..
I love watching your videos Jay...my favorite UA-cam channel right now!
First Jay shows us the Benz Mercedes now we get the Ferrari Mercedes-Benz
Yo, it's Jay Leno. 😃
This is exactly why I don't like any of the new Ferrari's. This is the kind of Ferrari that Enzo would appreciate. Don't forget that of all the cars Jay has, none of them are Ferrari's. These 550 Barchetta's made their original owners a bunch of money, as they appreciated greatly. If I ever bought one, it would have to be like this one. So very glad to see it's not red. These are twice the price of the coupes. Thank you.
Absolutely love these cars along with a 575
What a beautiful car. Always loved it.
What a beautiful car. The styling is perfect and so is that color combination. Just fantastic. The owner seems like a really cool dude, he actually drives this car and doesn't just stare at it. 👍
Amazing, I remember playing this car in one of the need for speeds back in the day.
I went to a car show yesterday in Van Nuys, California.
Jay was leaving in that monster Fiat right when I got there about 12:30 pm, but there were still some good cars to see.
Next to the 1964 Ferrari Lusso that was there, were two 550s, side by side.
I spent my share of time talking to the 92 year old owner of the Lusso.
Wind in my hair. Shifting and drifting. Mechanical music. Adrenaline surge...
Thanks for reviewing a 550 Barchetta Jay. Timeless Gated, Open air, front engine V12 is the best in our opinion. Would like to drive this spec up PCH and Mulhulland Dr some day. We will live vicariously through you for now :)
I've always thought the 550, 575 were the last really great designs from Ferrari, Great video!
Love the guest's enthusiasm and evident love for this car.
Timeless beauty.
Love it Jay. Beautiful car. Only 20+ years old. Last of an era. Comfortable.Quiet. Very nice. 😊👍❤❤😎🤑
Congratulations 🎊🎉 you have been as a great winner for the ongoing giveaway contest text me above.
What a nice person this man is. Humble. But knowledgeable.
legendary limited edition ferrari model.
Pininfarina designed timeless cars, full of style and elegance. They are beautiful in all periods.
Except for the Hyundai lavita, but we'll forgive them for "designing" that abomination.
What a Stunning car. Not a Ferrari fan but this is Beautiful. Nice Jay spotlights this.
@JayLeno, Wishing you a speedy full recovery and very happy Holidays with your Family and Friends! Love your comedy and your passion for automobiles! 🤣🏎️🏁🏆❤️
One of my all-time, absolute favorite Ferrari’s ever built!!! Love this car! BTW: Love you too Jay! Thanks!
Beautiful and not overdone 😊 . Hood scoop reminds me of my 02 Camaro SS but it’s in another league altogether.
Is it me or is Jay becoming the "back in my day" guy and the, "nowadays" guy, no matter what he's the guy that gets and owns the most interesting cars...you learn alot and I need Jay to be exactly who he is as the library of car knowledge and lore that he is...keeping these benchmark cars running and relevant in our minds...thank you Jay for this channel.
It’s you imo but Jay has lived longer than he will continue, he has the experience to call upon he’s had the money to own and drive these cars long enough to see the changes, current cars are all more similar to one another than they differ.
You are correct - he lapses into nostalgia now - because he is a boomer. Also he always has negative things to say about cars but NEVER the one he features so he is a bit phony too - otherwise he's driving a lot of cars he "hates" and I don't think that's the case. He knows being negative is bad for ratings. There is a reason he won't own a Ferrari, too which cracks me up because he has no problem featuring them !!! d:D 📺
We all get old. I love when he's remarking "I cant believe 2001 was over 20 years ago" and the other guy is nodding as if to say "yes, gen X ARE turning into the new boomers"
Jay you have such a marvelous collection and you deserve it because you love car's not just love you drive them thats love for me seriously
I've been to the Enzo Ferrari museum in Modena a few months ago and you could get a souvenir photo in a Barchetta
At the Ferrari store in Milan if you purchased two items someone could have their photo in an old F2?
Great car, came with two orig. Ferrari helmets in the trunk. Just gotta be careful with the top latches on the windscreen, windscreen cracks pretty fast and cost about 8K. The 550 Superamerica is an interesting model as well.
Looks like Jay Leno’s video editor is getting a write up 😖
?
I love the look of the front/middle engine Ferraris
That car is so beautiful it makes my mouth water.
Harkens all the way back to that incredible classic 1960 V12 Ferrari Cabriolet.
A true gentleman's convertible Ferrari.
Wonderful car and owner too.
Doug Cohen is well versed in the history of his car and Ferrari in general.
Thanks to Mr. Leno and Mr.Cohen for showing this last of a great breed Ferrari V12 gentleman's convertible coupe.
Nothing sounds like a Ferrari V12.
An enjoyable video with a couple down to earth car guys. :)
Stunning car, this is the Ferrari you should own Jay!
Congratulations 🎁🎊🎉 you have been shortlisted for a prize kindly TEXT to claim your prize
Hey jay love all those classic cars in the background always been a dream of mine to come see them! I’m starting a classsic car collection on my own wish to show you some day!
I'll never forget the impression the clip in Bad Boys chase seen had on me, such a gorgeous classic!
Thanks for watching
Let's talk via the above number
Mr Leno knows a thing or two about cars. I have been following him for years now;
Jays slipping when he said it needed bluetooth and navigation. I like that its a simple car in that regard.
The fact that most Ferraris are locked away as investments is a crime against humanity... They deserve to be enjoyed by everyone who gets to see them out and about. Kudos to Doug for getting his out and actually driving it.
Meh, if people drove them everyday they'd all be knackered by now, they are not exactly designed to be cheap or easy to repair or built for longevity.
Its sad when any car built for performance just sits... Its not fulfilling its purpose.....and as is said in a Bronx Tale, the saddest thing in life is wasted talent.
Beautiful car as always.
Another great one! Thanks...
Cohen guy: "Yada, yada, yada... details, special this, special that, more details..."
Jay the politician: 7:09 "Well, it's a great lookin' car. Let's put the hood down... and see"
@ "...why there were a lot of cylinders and very little displacement."
Not only tax and cost in money, but early engine designers were conscientious about making good power with low air consumption (e.g. A 3L twelve uses less than a third the air of a 3L four making the same power). Low air consumption was an engineering concern that became subordinate to low fuel consumption and reduced metal work.
That car (or 575M coupe), a 360 Spider (same colors), and a 458 Speciale...in black...*chef's kiss*
The Ferrari 550 barchetta is my favorite Ferrari. I wish newer Ferrari look like this. Just keep it simple with a V12 engine.
I was happily surprised to see you test this one Jay! That really is the right place for that one! Loved my 550! She was a great car, I must admit, a little too GT or not as analog as I want right now despite being a manual. I sold her for a Testarossa and I’m happy I did. Great review Jay
Cheers Jason #jcr_cars
20+ years ago I saw Rod Stewart driving this over Coldwater Canyon. Beautiful car.
'Like playing a musical instrument'- nice comment, Jay!
Wonderful machine, I prefer the coupe though. Not to worry, I'll never drive or own one, but I can watch it here. The best colour for these is the 'Grigio Alloy' with blue leather interior - stunning! Thanks for sharing this experience with us!
Great car, great guest.
We all love you Jay! God bless you!!!!!!
a small piston v-12, thats awesome
Thanks Jay
This car was kind of Luca Di Montezemolo’s baby when Ferrari developed it. It was Ferrari’s first new GT platform after Enzo passed away. It’s the Ferrari that you could everyday and be comfortable.
If someone complains about you calling it a 'motor,' tell them to take it up with the DMV!
This was my favourite car growing up. Im 35 now :)
Tubi are the masters of Ferrari exhausts 👌
X-OST also is good.
Love it. I want one. !
The radio is the engine. Beautiful music.
A lovely car with timeless design. If the wheels were updated, it could be sold today. It's hard to wrap my head around the fact that a 2021 car is about to become a classic...
Thanks for another great episode, Jay and crew! That was a fun one! ✌️❤️🇨🇦🙂
Those wheels are extremely desirable
@@4Kandlez oh, I know. I wouldn't change them out for anything! I'm just saying that they date the car. They're still amazing!
It really is a nice combination of new and old, and by 'old' I mean the classic sports car aspect, but as Jay says, it's also comfortable. If I cared to own a Ferrari (and had the bucks), this would certainly be a very nice one. I doubt you'll see this Jay, but if so, I hope you recover okay from the accident and aren't too badly battle-scarred.
Omg love Jay for saying he used to have nightmares about not being able to drive manual cars... I had that same thought before having my lisence in 2018, I thought what if I actually suck at driving cars and I love them my whole life already, one crash aside, I can drive cars so phew
I love the manual. I could care less if a modern automatic is faster, this is what driving a sports car should be.
Barchetta is boat in italian 😉, anyway, one of my favorite Ferrari designs. Fiat has a Barchetta as well, even looks a little like it (from the right angle in certain lighing conditions lol )
Because of the hilarious looking soft & hardtop this 550 has. I would go with the 550 Maranello. I live where it is over 100°f for half the year.
With an Alpine stereo nice 😍
I know that Jay is famously anti-Ferrari but it is nice to see that he can still appreciate the good ones
Fell in love with the 550 Maranello from Need For Speed High Stakes
naw, the best feeling is driving a car like that with my favorite Yngwie Malmsteen song blasting 80’s neo classical metal guitar solos!!
Nice! Manual Transmission Ferrari Dude got good taste and gets a Platinum Man's Card. 👍
This car always reminds me of Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2 on PS2 from 2002
absolute top tier
Beautiful!
Jay Leno we always be the real King of Cars
I live in LA and Santa Barbara and been lucky enough to drive (but not own) both this and the 355, which are my two favorite modern Ferraris. The 550 handles a lot better, but the 355’s sound cannot be beat. Front engine RWD on the other hand will always be my favorite layout for driving fun. I know people rave about the mid engine layout, but I always found it really hard to gauge the limit in the car.
Thanks for watching, let's talk I have got something for you 🎁
