I would say this was the best video I have seen in a very very long time. What a learning experience for all of us. I did not know as well on how expensive the wheels are. That wheel is so beautiful. Amazing on how it works. Just think of all the lovely things you can now make and sell once you get going. It also makes people realize that when you purchase a homemade sweater or toque that the price is high but for good reason. Incredible amount of hours you would spend from the time you wash your wool all the way up to the finished product. I have always loved homemade quilts. You go to farmer's markets and see the ladies selling them for hundreds of dollars and think no no I will not pay that BUT when you make one yourself you then give your head a shake. Wonderful your daughter is interested and she caught on really well. Your plants are doing very well. Never a dull moment on your farm, how fabulous and the children are so blessed to experience all of it.

The problem with learning fiber is that it's SO addictive! I do not spin, but I knit, crochet, and dye. I love to wear socks I have colored and knitted for myself. It's so fun to do and very zen for me. TFS, and good luck!

What a wonderful teacher your friend is! She definitely knows her stuff and her demonstration is spot on. Watch out though, you may end up getting more than one wheel so you and your daughter won't have to fight over it. I currently have downsized to ten, lol. Most of the major manufacturer's wheels are good for all spinning levels, it's more a matter of finding the wheel you click with. There is quite a large used wheel market, and they don't lose their value as long as they are maintained well. Make sure you hang on to your first spinning, it's beautiful and a good memory of where you started out on your journey! Welcome to the sisterhood of fiber arts and enjoy your trip down the magical rabbit hole of creations.

I am a (poor) spinner! But I can also give knit and crochet tips when you're ready for them. My mom taught me to knit and crochet, and gave me a primer on spinning. I'm a pretty good knitter, a capable crocheter, and a fumbling spinner. But it's ALL neat and fulfilling, even if you aren't great at it.

I don’t make videos and I don’t know anything about the various equipment needed to do so (I just watch a lot of youtube 😂). I wanted to tell you that I really like whatever setup you’re using for the camera work and the audio. The picture is always clear and the audio through my headphones is *chef’s kiss*. Often I have to have the volume super high-but on your videos I can turn the volume down because it’s just so clear and I can hear you perfectly. Thank you for having a great setup!
Also, I’m looking forward to watching this wool adventure, I think it will be quite fun and interesting.
In some ways it feels like this winter was long but mild and summer can’t come soon enough-and yet I’m also flabbergasted that it’s already April and springtime. Make it make sense 😂
Thanks for another great video ❤

Teach the hands with a drop spindle, then teach the feet to control the wheel(start, stop, speed, direction). Then add the fibre to the wheel. At first it is like a runaway horse so the yarn is thick and thin. Down the road when you can spin consistently you will look at that thick and thin yarn and think how pretty. Mind you, it is harder to go back to being able to spin it. You will have such fun turning your own wool into all sorts of things. Louets are good wheels, sturdy and versatile. My main wheel is a Lendrum single treadle that I have had for over 40 years. Made by Gord Lendrum in Ontario. My others are quite varied, more for their history, but all are interesting.
One funny thing is that spinners tend to treadle with bare feet/socks.

Fiber arts is my thing!!! I have my own sheep, alpacas, Angora goats and Angora bunnies. I shear them and spin their wool/hair into yarn. I suggest learning on a drop spindle before a spinning wheel. Drop spindles are easier to control, very inexpensive, and quite mobile. Feel free to ask questions if you have any.

Catch 22. Paper is great. But once you pot your plant babies up into that and start watering they are leaching every bit of color block, print. Anything that isn’t ok long before you put them in your garden. So. By the time you put them in the ground why not plant paper and all for the decomposition that will make your soil even richer and better. Because they’ve already leached out every hazard that could have been there. Make sense?
