Amazing video - and definitely the best (by a huge margin) I've seen about teaching the top spin serve. Thank you!
I've probably seen every video about serves and top spin.... and this is THE BEST EXPLANATION of a top spin serve! Thank you!!
Glad it was helpful!
Dude, your tutoring is super detailed and clear. I like the fact that you were repeating the pointers that you want us to pay more attention. I did try the your top spin serve with the notes I took from your videos. Dang, it worked! The balls came over more powerful and stayed in the court. I got compliment for delivering good serves now, lol. The elbow up is the key and paddle top behind the ear is the key!. Every time I forgot or didn't do that, my ball flew out of the court. Your video is the most detailed I've seen. Thank you. Will send you a "thank" just to show my so appreciation. Keep up the fantastic work!
Well, thanks so much! I appreciate it. You made my day.
I’ve been trying to learn how to do a top spin serve and have watched tons of videos on it. This is by far the best and most detailed tutorial I’ve watched. Thanks for the solid content; I’ll try this out tomorrow and hopefully I can figure it out.
Just came across your videos! Great stuff. Lots of people making these types of videos, but your progressive delivery of instruction breaking down each component of a technique is the most usable that I’ve seen. Most show you the swing, but your breakdown and how to build each stage of the swing is aces. And you presentation style is entertaining as well as clear. Great stuff. Thanks.
Thank you so much! Appreciate the kind words! Glad you enjoy the long form content! More videos coming your way!
This is the video with greatest details. I love it
Glad you like it!
Great video! I’m definitely gripping my paddle too tight. I will work on loosening my grip pressure.
You got this!
Thank you so much! yes for sure! Hold the paddle loose, if you don't it can cause arm pain and it is harder to hit! Think on a scale of 1-0, hold it loosely around a 4!
Great content brother. Subscribed
Thank you so much!
You are hilarious-love watching your video !!
Thanks so much!
Excellent top spin serve video!!! Thank you!
Thank you so much!
You're a good teacher. My only suggestion is to emphasize that the point of contact is similar to a whip crack. The loose grip, the sideways wave, and the flight path of the paddle all come together at the point of contact with the ball for an explosion like the crack of a whip. The brushing motion achieves maximum speed at the point of contact with the ball. But, your presentation is excellent. Actually, I paused it at 24:41 5o write this comment.
Great tips, I will practice this more.
Glad it was helpful! Keep going
This video is amazing!! But I have a question for you. I actually have the opposite with top spin. Whenever I speed up or try to swing down to up over my shoulder I always get top spin but the ball goes flying (usually out) unless I kill the speed of my swing. I rarely am able to hit top spin hard and it goes low/stays in, it always starts high and then arcs down. Any advice?
The best video on spin period😊
wow, thanks so much Stephen!
Thank you Stephen!
Hey, were you using a eastern grip or a continental grip?
Hi Tyler,
Thanks for the great tutorial!
In regards to gripping the paddle, is there ever a time we would want a strong grip on the paddle?
On volleys you can use a firmer grip! But for most shoes you want to stay nice and loose!
This is a brilliant video
Dude i love your videos
Thank you so much!
Great video. About changing grips, I'm a beginner who's been only using a continental death grip. Changing grips seems intimidating to me. I'm going to give it a try, but I'm wondering how do you change grips mid-point? Is this something that's done one-handed, rotating it using your thumb as you're moving into position? So for example I start my serve with the tilted downward grip, then I should quickly go back to continental as I'm getting ready for the return? Thanks.
we would recommend not changing grips between shots, just hold the paddle loose. the more you think about it the tighter you get. easier said than done but let it happen naturally... hope this helps
Do you mean "Alix Troung"? Great Video!! thanks!!
You're serve is totally legal. I changed my topspin serve to a drop topspin and like it better. It avoids the "Karens" who try and say mine is illegal. The only time where it's a problem is when its pretty windy...
We have so many awesome pickleballers named "Karen" in our programs, however yes we know what you mean. Unless PPA finals they will not call it:)
Your topspin was amazing. Can I add horizontal spin?
Horizontal spin exactly will be difficult, but may be a video in the future. Stay tuned if I can figure that out. Lol.
Great tips Tyler, I always enjoy your videos. 3.5-4.0 player here and I do have a question for you. I feel the way I serve/drive/groundstroke is more of horizontal paddle position but still low to high and I do generate a lot of top spin with ball dipping into the other side of the court no matter how hard I hit it. Looks like your paddle is in more vertical position which I also believe most of players I play with use your method (vertical). I tried your method and I was able to generate topspin but the ball does not go in straight line where I want it to and keeps curving. Any advice there? Thanks
Appreciate the comment, keep your body down, get into your legs and head down that should help
Sounds like you are coming across the ball more than you are coming up on the ball and creating side spin.
Awesome 😮CB
glad you like it

Great video
Thank you so much!
Thanks!
Thank you so much! We appreciate your support! More videos coming!
At around the 19:15 mark when you are showing how to hit topspin with a loose grip it sure looks like you aren’t swinging very low to very high so I am confused.
19:15 is when Tyler puts all the tips that were went over in the whole video together, he still does swing low to high
@@universalracketsHis elbow and hand aren’t coming up nearly as high as earlier in the video. Almost looking like he is throwing a sidearm pitch. He wanted feedback and I am giving it. Anyone watching and going back and forth in the video will agree. I thought it very important, like the secret sauce I been missing to hit topspin (hitting much lower to much higher). Now I am not so sure.
@@robertcuomo7084 thanks for the feedback !
If you hit it a bit long too often, how about backing up a foot and serve again.
good idea!
14:38 you are tossing the ball up about 3 to 4 inches, isn't that illegal?
Write me a ticket
Ha ha, just asking, chill😂
It is legal for a volley serve. Ppa is testing removing that, but it’s currently legal outside of the PPA pilot.
🌞💜 wearing shorts and playing pb outside in February... must be such a glorious feeling. 🥹
Kudos for another great video!
Thank you Ann, glad you like it! Weather is good
