- I am sharing this because 1) this was unusual behavior (lions generally don't expend energy for such small rewards) and 2) you get suspense, drama, comedy and terror in 3 minutes. In my defense, I am ONLY rooting for the baboon because I would never want to witness another primate (including humans) being killed. Yes, I did want to see a kill but I was really hoping to see a zebra or wildebeest behind those bushes! But that's nature.

@@AppClan Well not really. The problem is lions and other wild animals avoid even smaller animals because even a small injury can lead to death. So they have to be careful (especially mother animals). Humans on the other hand have doctors so they don't have to worry too much.

Yes you are right baboon have good opportunity to chase lion towards that big tree and climb up. But it missed the opportunity. It is difficult to escape from lion but there is plenty of chance before other lions join

It had to stand its ground and hope the lioness lost interest and moved on. Unfortunately the rest of the pride turned up with empty stomachs....

Sometimes bravery is not everything. I am sure if it was a leapord it would survive that day by climbing tree after the initial fight ..

The baboon had no way of outruning the lioness. It simply isn't built for running. Also, maybe it could climb trees but those bushes cannot be climbed. This baboon maybe is a lone male, an outcast. He has no troop to help him. So he had to make a stand with all he's got, like a cornered rat.
Now that you said that. Baboons do come in packs. Where was his friends?
