    To be honest, I think the main problem with the Upper Teahampton hub was the fact that it's in the middle of nowhere. It's quite hard to walk there due to the presence of the motorway, cims have to either drive there or transfer from a bus, which isn't very efficient, so maybe that's part of the reason why it didn't get much use. Probably building some more houses around the hub would have helped way back then.

    Heya Biffa, if absolutely no one is using your train line, it could also mean that there is something wrong with either one of your stations. Maybe the citizens can't actually get into them or the move-it mod messed something up? Might be worth a shot to delete and rebuild them.

    I would change the metrotracks along the motorway to be at ground level and make only a overpass near roads. IRL this would happen, since ground level tracks are much cheaper than kilometers of overpass. As a suggestion you could make the metroline form the Wold to East Charlton run parallel to the road before the roundabout. that way you can add a new station along the route if you expand East Kettling/Bampton heights.

    • @bobblebardsley
      @bobblebardsley 2 роки тому +8

      Agreed, irl those would be ground-level lines either sunk into a cutting to block the noise, or with trees lining the sides of the tracks. They'd look really cool decorated in that way, too.

    Love the series biffa! One suggestion would be a large country estate with a big house for the earl grey of teahampton!

    Hi ... love the metro, great addition to the city!
    6:05 I had already commented on the Wold-Upperteahampton bus lines being overcrowded, but I was never aware of this very long banana detour the trains have to take to West Kettling. Of course this could not work ... the 10:20 parallel to the highway route would have been very suitable for the train line as well.
    You added a vast amount of tiny shuttle lines that lead to a lot of transfers - let me suggest a different network design:
    Rail line 2 - 6 via a new shorter route along the highway; Metro A 6*-4-3-1; Metro B 5-4-3-2*; Metro C 1-2*-Shops-5-6* [rail transfers of metro lines marked with a *]. Lines A and B run parallel to the new rail line but do not copy the West-Kettling-Upperteahampton connection, as the two railway stations are on different metro lines. Line C merges several of you spur lines (you could do that even without adopting the A+B scheme) - it serves both rail stations but won't be the more attractive 2-6 connection as it is copying the old banana detour; its right to exist is derived from the 1-2 connection, the 5-6 connection and the shop connection.
    Fill-in stations ... while building underground, always look whether there are buildings of top. If their density reaches a certain threshold and the next stop is not too close, you can add a station.
    21:23 If you decide to keep you layout [let's be honest, you probably will and have every right to do so], the separate Stadium line could connect to the current platform of the Wave line and have a fill-in stop in St. Giles East, maybe also extend to St. Giles West.
    20:55 There is definetly additional ridership potential between University and Wold bus hub, and the 4-5 connection might extend to a new North Kettling railway station.
    25:42 The Kettling bus station to the Shops bus line only has two stops - with that it is just a bad copy of the metro. No sane person would choose that line over the metro. You turn down the amount of vehicles instead of deleting it - let me add an idea to justify the existence of that line. 24:26 Let the bus run through Bampton Heights and Halewood Gardens adding new purpose for the line. Let it do what the metro cannot do because even if you adopt my fill-in station ideas the metro cannot stop everywhere. It might even meander through the side streets extensively - you do not want the bus to win the speed battle, the bus has to cover the area.
    26:10 Similar analysis for the Upperteahampton - Shop bus line. No need to cover the same route twice - but here fill-in stops are more difficult. Maybe you reroute it to St. Giles West and connect to the Stadium line. Again a connection you probably do not want to offer with metros.

  • @williamhuang8309
    @williamhuang8309 2 роки тому +6

    Biffa, for the part of the metro running along the highway, it would most likely be on an embankment, not a long bridge section. That'll just make it more realistic since engineers tend to avoid bridges if they can. And those curves are far too tight. Try to keep them above 200m radius in NMT. For the roundabout crossings, instead of the crazy bridge, the metro would likely remain at highway level and the road would be elevated.
    Wold -> Shops- the line is underground under a field? No sane engineer would do that. Please make that ground level. And also can you connect up some of the lines so you don't force a transfer? Would make the line more attractive.

  • @cstkto
    @cstkto 2 роки тому +4

    At the moment all your station are connected to attraction but they are not connected to people, you need to put connections near where they live to get the people on the transport else they will still drive to the attractions

      Another big thing is a lot of the reason people aren’t using the train lines is the bus routes basically do the same thing, so the services cannibalize each other’s ridership. Making the busses more local, basically transferring people from residential or workplaces to the train/metro network would make the whole system much more usable.

      Height of realism, though, trains often go straight through places where you'd expect them to stop, often because of obscure reasons why making a connection isn't feasible, even though it seems like it would make a lot of sense.

  • @SiqueScarface
    @SiqueScarface 2 роки тому +13

    In general, I treat mass transit similar to roads. Trains are first tier, few stops, and they need space. Then you have metros, second tier, which you can use to get people from the large stations to the city centers and points of interest. With trams, you get into the area, connecting metro stations with intermediate stations, offering tangential services etc.pp., and busses are lowest tier, travelling only short distances or to places with low passenger frequency. In the town I am currently building, I am not using any metros at all, because I like it when I see the vehicles above ground, but that's just personal taste. And there are some bus routes which I have to upgrade to trams because they got inexpectedly busy (no pun intended).
    For some reason, Biffa seems not to use a tiered approach to mass transit. But he likes to build transit hubs!

    A tip I've used to get around the not owning the square I need to put down a road in, or subway track, is use the network multitool's create connection/curve tool. I draw the roads in on each side of the square that is not owned where I want them, then use the tool and it will connect the two through the unowned square. Only downside is you can't really fix issues until you buy the square. But it at least gets you close to what you want. Hope that helps.

    One thing I like to do when I get busses, is treating them like trains and metro, which means making separate roads only for them whenever possible, so they don't have to create extra traffic for normal roads. On those roads (including bridges and tunnels), I only allow busses, and I have some bus road systems completely separated from the rest of the roads, with a few roads limited to emergency services and sometimes utility vehicles (garbage, for example). This effectively makes it similar to having metro stations, before having the metro unlocked, for a slightly higher price than normal metro. *Edit:* Bike lanes and pedestrian lanes are also very useful, especially since normal roads allow both pedestrians and bikes, and I can even use roads with bike lanes for the bus-and-emergency-only roads, especially on long roads, since it seems to me that dedicated bike lanes allow faster bike travel.
    I also like having small/tiny villages every now and then, some of them with only low density, others also with high density, though I often have a few 1x1 offices in those villages, to make jobs, and even tiny education (of all levels), and I explain it as using technology to not need as much space or as many on-site workers, including tiny emergency services. You would be surprised how much you can cram in a 20x20 village. I also try to segregate my city in a few (a lot of) "districts", so emergency vehicles from one corner of the map don't have to travel to the other corner of the map.
    If there's a crisis in one district, I just temporarily unlock a road for emergency vehicles, to have them help out, but after it was solved, I close the road to emergency services again. Normal vehicles can still move throughout the districts nearly unlimited (though I often use roads with a very small speed, like 10 or 5 speed, which I call pedestrian roads, to discourage normal traffic from using it, because emergency services ignore the speed limits, if I remember well).

    Loved it - great episode, and it's amazing how much of a difference Metro makes.
    A couple of suggestions:
    1) you might want to consider going through your stations and adding an overpass or underpass by each one. Some of your roads (particularly the Wold bus hub) are getting clogged up with pedestrians crossing and slowing your traffic down.
    2) your commercial triangle area seems to be pretty desperate for more parking!

  • @Thumper770

    I've noticed that, in the trafic overlay, the red areas aren't necessarily where traffic has stopped or is even slow, rather an indication of how many cars pass that area in relation to the surrounding area. Red isn't always a bad thing so long as cars are moving. An area can be red if more cars pass through it than in other areas but, are still moving at a decent rate.

    You could do a challenge out of this. Build a City with Transport Masterplaned upfront. You could use the zoning Tool to Plan Trainroutes/Highways where you want them to be in the future. You could also add Challenges for some stages. For example have 1000 Bycyle riders before you can use trains. Also there could be a challenge about Transit ridership.

    OH C'MON! 😂 in London we have lines like "Northern" that goes oop North. We have "The Victoria" line, in commemoration of her old Maj! The "Circle" etc. And as an old driver on the Northern I am 'insisting' that your lines are named appropriately...or there might be a strike called 😅🥴
    I'll leave it to you or others to name them but have a look at the London underground map and go from there?
    The Great Kettling line.
    Etc!
    Cheers...."EVERYBODY OUT"! and mind the gap!

    Don't like the elevated section of Tube-line running along the Motorway. If it was an old train track it would be ground level. Just dip it under the junction (combined with slightly lifting the junction), and then that last road: make it into a bridge. It would also make more sense for it to end at the university with an overground station. (these are available for the MOM mod).

    What helps for me is just like mini metro drawing lines and dors as seen on metro maps. It does easily show "who goes where", and if you take it further you can draw the number of average passengers next to it and you wil see the busy points. again, Just like mini metro

    Why do you always build these 2-station metro shuttle lines that go just forth and back, instead of proper metro lines with multiple stops? For example the shopping centre - hub - shopping centre - hub thing could easily run through as a single line, while it three lines here. Is this something with how the game mechanics work and I failed to understand so far?

    I would’ve added a line under 1 (7) and opposite the park under 3 (8). Possibly a line above 2 (9) and above 3 (10) Line from 9-2-1-7. Line 1-3-4-6. Line 10-3-8. Line 5-6. Maybe even expanded north and east of 5 as well.

    Hi Sir, I too think that the hub isn't in the best place. Better would be imo the area between #3 and #4 at the interchange. Could also be a place for a nice airport. With the current location I'd run a line 2345 and 1346 and have a short line 12 and 56. And don't elevate the tracks on open fields, that is way too expensive :-)

    I think the metro is a great idea, but the above ground section being elevated all the way is a tad questionable given you'd build the above ground section to save on costs normally and elevating it would just add those costs back on. I love the series however.

    Also an M62 House? (just a house/ farm in the middle of the motorway).
    A private/ prep school (think Eton) will be a good idea too.

    What always amuses me with players of Cities is when they install underground services and blithely cut right under residential areas when they could easily re-route under commercial or industrial nearby. I think, in real life, underground services would be kept away from residential areas due to siesmic noise and disturbance.

    • @OntologicalQuandry
      @OntologicalQuandry 2 роки тому

      @@martintautenhahn9301 Im going to say "wrong" to you on that. The subway was installed under non residential. Residential was then built over the top. Still, it is a difficult prospect as few people want to live directly over a working subway. Also, you haven't said the the tracks go right under someone's property rather than down the road outside.

    If I were you I'd follow the road going to the triangular shopping mall. Line 1 from The wave to the Old West Kettling via the bus stations and the shopping mall Line 2 from Old West Kettling to the Eastern part of the city via the Southern route (motorhway) and serving all districts in the length. So two connection stations.
    Your Line 4 should be extended South to serve the housing districts. Same for the Tottenham FC line.
    If anything a big train station like Old West Kettling shouldn't be on the end of and branch line but at the center of the local network, the main transfer station should be there and the bus station as well.

    I think the fixes definitely helped! Although there are a couple of places now that are rammed with pedestrians crossing the road by the new metros (best example of this is the bus-hub).
    Definitely think it would be worth putting in some underground crossings… in the UK there’s potential stations on both sides of the road so there’s justification for it! Would also be awesome if you could somehow make the underground crossings by the metros to look like it’s part of the station (not sure if there will be any assets that can do that in the workshop but would be awesome!)
