  • Belt Parkway (intermediate) to The Battery (beginner) is a ski run of varying difficulties located at Hunter Mountain. The trails run from the summit of the ski area, down to the main base area. The trail starts off the skier's left when coming off of the summit. The trail can be accessed in multiple ways. Either by taking a sharp 90 degree turn to the right when coming off of the Kaatskill Flyer chairlift then taking a left at the four-way intersection or by starting straight off the summit and taking the first turn off to the skier's left, then continuing straight through the intersection. The trail runs nice and gradually down the mountain while wrapping around the side of it. The trail starts out straight then takes a sharp right turn. The trail then passes by the top of the new Northern Express chairlift, while multiple trails, part of the new for 2018 Hunter North expansion, exit off to the skier's left. Meanwhile, the trail continues wrapping around the mountain, while slightly turning to the right. The trail eventually passes under the D lift chairlift, then merges onto The Battery. The Battery is a beginner run that runs mellowly underneath the bottom of the Kaatskill Flyer chairlift until the trail reaches the bottom of the mountain.
Hunter Mountain is a ski area located in Hunter, New York. The ski area is located in the Catskill Mountain Range. Hunter is known for its wide variety of terrain and for some of the most challenging terrain in Southern New York State. The ski area is broken into four main areas: Hunter East, the smallest area of the mountain, located separately from the other areas, is the ski area's main beginner area, though the top of it does have some advanced/intermediate terrain; the Main Mountain, the top of which is home to mostly more advanced groomers but is also home to some natural terrain and two intermediate groomers; Hunter West, which is home almost exclusively to advanced and expert trails most of which are left entirely natural; and the new for 2018 area, Hunter North which is home to a mixture of intermediate and advanced groomers. Self-described as the "Closest Big Ski Area to New York City," Hunter is a very popular ski area. Located only 2.5 hours north of New York City and 1.5 hours south of Albany, as well as only about 30 min off of exits 20 and 21 off of the New York Thruway/I-87, the ski area is very easy to get to. Many buses also run to the mountain. The ski area was bought by Vail Resorts when they purchase Hunter's former owner, Peak Resorts. As a result, Hunter is a destination on the Epic Pass, with unlimited access on the Epic and Epic Local passes and restricted access on the Northeast Value Pass (all info as of March 2021).

The Belt Parkway starts out as a great wide open intermediate trail but seems to narrow down a bit too much, especially, between Sleepy Hollow and Drop Off and again could use a little width remediation after Drop Off and before approaching Racers Edge. I would like to see the Belt Parkway be a more consistent uniform width from top to bottom and more level. Hunter has a tendency to make it's narrow trails into chutes, lower in the center and higher on the sides. I don't know whether this is the result of the topography, the snowmaking, or the grooming. I consider Minya Konka and East Side Drive to be akin to chutes, high sides and low center, also.

Hahaha! Most of the ski runs are namesakes after highways and/or streets in NYC. Hunter Ski Resort is located in Hunter, NY (upstate).
