I’m in constant awe when watching these tiny kids fly down a mountain as if it’s the most natural thing in the world. I’m 58 and my son is now 16. I first took him skiing at the age of 4, and watching his progression through the years to become the accomplished skier he now is is one of my life’s greatest pleasures. Fantastic video 👍
I miss the days of being a fearless kid willing to hit the steepest blacks on the first run of the winter. Now I'm old, even the ski lift seems a challenge!
A camera never illustrates fairly just how steep runs are, is this a run you must do with a guide or an thinking of somewhere nearer to Cervinia? 85% is near 90° vertical, wow - does it ever get groomed? And only 4, she'll make one of the future teams, get them on skis as soon as they can walk right?
Good thing they don't understand the risk, and good thing we let them take reasonable risks. That's the only way to explore what they will eventually be capable of, and for them to discover their capabililies by themselves. The youger the better in that matter. Well done little boy!
I will never forget my first snow trip at 11. In 2 days i was already riding red ones and beating all my uncles in races. All my family were so happy and proud of me, even more than when i get my degree. lol
@alphabet6814 yes there´s something to it too. When i was a kid skiing i wanted to be the FASTEST rider. I was aware of the consequences. But true to be told most of the times i crashed i just lifted myself like it was nothing. Didn´t even care to check myself. lol Now if i crash... it´s a pain in the ass. I get dizzy, light headed, bruised.... Having 30kg back then and 90kg now and older, also makes a difference with impacts.
It is a great thing you have done for your kids with skiing. Alex did a great job with impressive confidence and control. The video was wonderful to watch. I will show it to my neighbors kids. I took them skiing twice this season. They were 6, 9 and 11. The 6 year old is athletic and smart. He learned faster than the other two. By the end of the second day they could do ok carved turns with their skis paralell. Them seeing Alex ski on a tough slope with get them psyched. Great video.
Your kid is amazing, a future champion, his tracking and edging was brilliant for his age!!! Dad, your guidance was just right, without over stressing! His natural balance was evident and his confidence was also enhanced by your guidance... you have created a super memory for your family when he gets his first gold!! Thankyou, what an acheivement! :)
My mum took me down a similar black run in Portes du Soleil when I was 6. I made a bad turn after 20 seconds and then tumbled down the entire run, around 300 meters. Skis, poles, gloves, all over the place. No injuries but I refused to continue skiing that day and we took the bus back to the apartment.
Wow! Well done kid, fantastic job. It’s a horrible run, you did it brilliantly. When I did this with my mates several years ago, we went straight to the pub!
Fun to watch- Pretty gnarly start for any parent along the ridge at the top-reminds me of the first time I took my kids to Snowbird - Had me terrified, they were fearless. Miss the days of watching my kids taking it all on
I think Dad was saying “slow, slow, go left, go right”. I don’t speak French but that’s the universal things we say teaching kids. My kids called me The Turn Hitler.
This video really toouched me.. it reminds me of when I was I child skiing and making 'crazy stuff' with my uncle without telling to my parents..it was our secret.. thank you for posting it..❤
I don't know much French, but most of this I understand, because I learned to ski in Switzerland and the instructor spoke French but mostly in these words! she was the best teacher, by the way.
This video is the greatest! Had me on the edge of my seat for a couple minutes but this micro terror has a very good grip! She is remarkable and just brings a smile and almost a tear, no better way to bond with your kid! Rock on Dad, that girl is destined for greatness! Try and get those arms forward and attack, otherwise she is golden. Id love to see her progress. Absolutely excellent!
My passion is skiing, and this is probably one of the best and libdest run I've ever seen. In short, I've just hot to ski there. Thank you for bringing this place to the table
Beautiful to watch and just goes to show that kids are FAR more capable than society generally believes. We are not skiers but have been doing trail running since our kids took their first steps. For kids to have these types of mega-achievements under their belts at such a young age is very empowering later in life, as we are seeing now with ours. Our little girl is the youngest ever to complete the 14km City to Surf here in Sydney at age 2 without assistance, our son is the youngest to complete the Tongariro Crossing (20 km over an active volcano in NZ) at age 4. These achievements have underpinned a very healthy and can-do mindset in their young lives. Good on you dad. You are normalising toil and the resulting achievement in young Alexis and Maya. They will do well. Now you just have to keep them from the damaging influence of devices and the messaging they carry and they will be miles ahead of the pack! Cheers from Sydney - Dave
You can tell how high and steep this is because the skiers in the background looks like tiny ants moving around. This little guy is hammering away at stuff that scares most adults to death. The father is a patient soul working with his son. Thanks for sharing the video.
i learned to ski with my father too, but we walked up the mountains with fur attached to the underside of the skis and then had to go down in fresh snow.
Love to see the kid is game. Wait for dad! Good instructions by dad to get off the heels. Tough when it’s so steep and they’re still little, though. Way to go guys!
I would do the couloir with no hesitation, BUT the entrance with drops on both sides, you lost me right there. I absolutely freeze on those. Congrats on Alexi. Great technique.
Fantastically FEARLESS!! 👏👏 Makes it look easy. I doubt that you're old and slow (I read your description). Confident and cautious. WELL DONE to you both!! 👏👏 Stay safe!!
Relatively speaking not too too difficult with good powdery snow but it would be quite a different story with hard icy snow. That being said the lid is really impressive.
He’s a great little skier. I’ve skied everything in the 3 callers many times but didn’t attempt la grande couloir. It looked scary along the top. My boys didn’t mind it.
Kids skis are half to two thirds the length of an adults, yet a kid of that size weighs one fourth or one third that of an adult, so the ratio of braking ability to weight is significant. Also, their strength to weight ratio is significantly greater for the same reasons that an ant can lift a weight many times its body weight. The force per muscle fiber is significantly lower for the same maneuver. That's why at Palisades Tahoe, level 4 (out of 7 levels) Mighty Mites go down chute 75 routinely, which at 40-50 degrees at the top is around 90-100% grade. Either way, it's nice to see Dad and kid skiing together - precious memories you'll never forget.
Well, until they reach the chop at the bottom, and then outright weight and ski length would’ve been helpful! What a great run, and I’m envious of Alexis’ life of wonderful skiing still to come!
This was literally amazing to watch, such a miniature person m asking down that kind of descent so effortlessly. I wish you many more joyful and safe adventures ❄️⛷️🏂❄️
The kid is great! This is the most difficult? At Squaw / Alpine we have lots of runs like this. And chutes much narrower. And some like this with a 10ft drop in.

85% is 40 degrés…the beginning is scary then it is more or less a very steep black…
I feel the same way, hate it!
Alexis is a superb little guy!! 10/10 a Star in the making!! Well done papa! Great memories ❤❤
The little guy is fearless. He is bored (smacking his pole while the older folks are struggling). Very cute!
Kids at this age are able to learn anything really good and fast, especially when they have a talent l for it. Awesome job Dad!

This video is fantastic what a cool dad and amazing kid.
Good job Alexis! proud moment for both of you
That's a nasty start to a pretty gnarly descent :) Well done Alexis and dad.
Sweet !!!!! Gotta love the Kiddo fearless approach !
What a fabulous ski. And that long wide open run home...wow...got to appreciate that. Thanks for sharing!
Merci pour le partage! Awesome, I wish I could be there now! Alexis is gifted, man 5 years old... lots of potential. Great coaching Dad!

Five years old. Amazing. Kid’s a pro. Seems more relaxed than the dad. Nice job on part of dad. That’s the way to do it
Dad was definitely more scared bc of the kid lol
dad is stupid in every case --- young is skiing well, but no in so risky pista

Everything is easy when you're a kid, it's amazing how quickly they learn to ski.
That slope looks so delicious and that kid is a champ.
Wonderful skiing! Superb skier at 5 years old 👌 braver than me
Bravo! Très discipliné et bien skié! Les conditions différentes- essayer tout, rester en contrôle, c’est ça cequi fait des bons skieurs!

Adorable AND intimidating.

very impressive well done, tres bien alexis

Regular skis for Alexis but difficult for daddy with his long skis at the start
brilliant vid. keep up the good work!
