Actually doing this multiclass in my main playthrough, based off a backup character I had for a tabletop campaign. Playing as a Wood Elf for extra movement right off the bat. It's fun being able to dash 60 meters in one turn and still have an action left for attacking... Was already at level 5 before I came across this video- curious to see if your build is the same as mine. I should also note Sneak Attacks can be added automatically to unarmed strikes, say in a flurry of blows. I was delighted to discover this perk. I started with Rogue, then a level of Monk, then three more of Rogue. The rest will probably be going into Monk but it's already impressive even before getting Way of the Shadow.

I keep comparing it to table top, but in table top there are some differences. My character in my table top game is a wood elf, Shadow monk/ assassin rogue currently a 15th level character. 12 levels of shadow monk for the poison and disease immunity, movement speed, fall damage negation, and the ability to turn invisible in darkness, then 3 levels of rogue to get the assassin subclass for the initiative, automatic critics on surprised enemies, expertise, and the added sneak attack for enemies within 5 feet of a party member, or ally. I went with wood elf because of the added mobility they get as a racial bonus. This build has been absolutely fun, and is completely broken in the opening round of combat, not to mention stealth sections. My entire party is always invisible because of the, “Pass Without Trace” ability. I also failed to mention shadow step as an ability. Doing that in combination with high movement speed is ridiculous, plus, once you get to a certain level, and get the mobility feat, enemies cannot make any attacks of opportunity against you. There is no need to use disengage, you are so fast that you can just do it. Especially if you shadow step the full 60ft of movement, then use your movement speed after that, for my shadow monk that is 120ft of movement in one round.
Just wanted to mention about your mic, as it seems to be of a different volume here and there, so I have to tune mine accordingly at certain points since I can't hear you at some points. Other than that, good work!

@@remortisgaming ooo thanks for the answer that's great because on your gameplay I didn't see weapon's that's why I asked :D thanks again for the answer
Dumb question.. But how does Corellon's Grace add +1 to unarmed combat attack and damage when it must be a weapon and equipped? Does it add when wielding it, or do I equip it and use Ki to attack unarmed? Thanks.
Since the build is for a ninja, when going for flavor on background Folk Hero or Guild Artisan would actually be more applicable since many real life ninja "hid" themselves as everyday folk and workers, especially during undercover assignments.
Also people sleep on the minor illusion cantrip but if you need to group up people for an AOE blast to start a fight off on a good foot then it's a god send.
New to this but what about taking the eldritch adept feat to get devil sight? Drop darkness on people then run in and beat them up, does that work in this game or are you losing too much by taking that feat?
I don't recommend going half orc for a monk as their savage attacker passive specifies that it increases their crit damage with melee weapons, which monks don't use much. Excellent race for paladin, fighter, barbarian, melee ranger/rogue though.
Love this build, going to play it on my "self" campaign when i'm not playing with friends! think this will be super fun and different than my normal playstyle (pallock or Barb). keep up the great content! always enjoy watching your stuff and builds! Thanks for all you do!
Shadow Monk + A few levels of warlock might be a good fit. you could grab Devil Sight upgrade from Lock to be able to see in your shadows. Among all the other goodies locks get.
Absolutely. Gloom/assassin is still going to be hard to beat. Open hand/thief might be able to keep up with the right items though. All those bonus action flurries, especially if you get hunters mark or something similar.
I'm going with either way of open hand 6/thief 3/warlock 3 for 3 bonus actions and the ability to cast and see in magical darkness on a short rest, or open hand 6/thief 4/fighter 2. throw in the misty step amulet and it's like a more fun version of shadow monk to me. 3 levels in warlock just to cast darkness and see in it may cost a feat but it's really cool thematically and darkness is actually crazy good in combat.
I would love to see a detailed gear video for this build although I have many thoughts on what to use it’s hard to make a choice and some outside input would be awesome
I am doing a Gold dwarf rogue monk now. Plus 1 HP for every level feat dwarven toughness. Useful 16 Con too, another plus 1 HP. Almost fighter level. Used Auntie Ethel for Wis to 16.
Dont know if anyone can help, when i use shadow step i cant use sneak attack bc i dont have "advantage" even tho the shadow step gives you advantage. Im new to all of this so im maybe misunderstanding how the sneak attack works
@@remortisgaming I know Im kinda late but Im kinda main of this spec, from the start of the baldur I used my dnd assassin/ shadow monk build (ppl laughed it will be weka yada yada) and dipping 2 into warlock and losing 1d6 is not so worthy, it's better to just be drow and kite around darkness and have big dmg on start round. I didnt like 6/6, so I dipped 1 lvl into GOO as well ( I was long thinking what can be the best) and thats rly enough, it's kinda solo machine for most fights, considering how many times you can reset fight and suprise enemies xD (I pref short sword+ dagger with some tasty spell or effect, or just 2 short swords and feat alert xD)
@@remortisgaming Yeah, I am working so I will need to check it out later but I might consider it but I might also just go full Monk just for the sake of it.
Currently playing this type of build in a multiplayer campaign. Knife of the Undermountain King is an OP act 1 shortsword for the build. Crits on 19s and rerolls low damage automatically. My buddy is playing the Dark Urge, so he gave me the cape Durge gets, the Deathstalker Mantle. The build has been nuts. Bonus action Shadowstep, advantage on next attack, and if you manage a KO, you go invisible, giving you advantage on your second attack. Very easy way to efficiently activate Sneak Attack
I play dark urge and dump str to add to charisma for the intimidation checks. If you don't do auntie ethel quest until the end of ch1, you can buy hill giant elixirs to set str to 21/long rest to take advantage of tavern brawler.
I do know it’s Ki. But I use it interchangeably. When I read it, I think Kai, but when I say it normally I say Key. I definitely say both throughout the vid. Thanks for your insight.
I’m heaving a hard time using shadowstep. A lot of times I’m in a dark area and the hability won’t enable. Could you please do a guide on it? Like, when you can and when you can’t use? I feel this is a confusing mechanic. Thank you, your videos are awesome.
You can hold shift when you have your character selected and your cursor will show you how "lit up" an area is. You can only teleport to partially or fully concealed areas. It is a little finicky.
Been trying to build a shadow monk for a few days now for my honor run. For the most part I got the general idea of what I want to do. Monk 8/ Rogue thief 3/ Trickery cleric 1 Dark urge. Not sure on race tho. Githyanki or wood elf. As for my stats, I was thinking a distribution as follows: 13/16/12/8/15/12 With TB and Ethel's hair I can pump my STR to 14 and WIS to 16 plus another 2 STR from that one potion in act 2. The mirror would probably go to DEX. My second feat will probably be savage attacker since I plan to use a single dagger/shortsword as for the trickery cleric level, I want that disguise self so I can get the bonus from the ring of shapeshiftin and Orin's armor down the line. That and the +2 to armor from the cleric spell.
Hey there! I'm actually working on an updated version of the guide as I type this! It actually goes with a warlock dip. But that trickery dip is quite interesting. Why would you put all those points into STR? Instead of DEX? There are other ways to increase your STR for the purposes of Tavern Brawler.
@@remortisgaming In part is carrying capacity since I'm a loot goblin. The main thing is damage, even if my DEX is higher and would do the attack roll, TB would still contribute on my unarmed attack damage since I'll be caping it at 1d6 base. I could use elixirs of course but I don't like relying on them, plus there might be other elixirs I may use instead, like the bloodlust one for example. Though. If I where to dump STR to 10 or 8, I would put the rest of the points into CHA and CON. Not sure when to take the cleric level tho. I'm thinking at lv 4 since I can get the ring of shapeshifting around lv 3.
@@remortisgaming Do you also go back and forth between merchant and 1 area to finish looting despite having 18 STR due to being encumbered? XD I even loot the forks and spoons xD

11:00 you mention that Half-Orc Savage Attack works with melee crit strike damage, but do you know if it works with unarmed attacks? The description says Melee Weapon Attack which means you need to have a weapon equipped, no?
Unarmed attacks are better than using quarterstaffs? I didn't felt too much different between them (which i can be wrong, and i not really sure if i'm losing something from only using unarmed attacks) but using quarterstaff also gives me thunderous smite which is kinda nice to have.
You’ll be doing both weapon attacks and unarmed attacks (with your bonus action). Eventually you’ll get enough bonuses to unarmed dmg, which will be stronger than weapon attacks all together
I like half-orc assassin/shadow monk. I start the fight with sneak attack, then win initiative roll, getting surpised status on all enemies. All my attacks become critical with 3x mutiplier, then I can continue to fight or disengage and repeat.
so i know that martial characters don't receive extra attacks from their multi classes but i thought if i started as rogue and didn't get the extra attack i could get it from monk 5 which isn't the case. so you have to start as monk. sadge
I like to start rogue a lot of the time at level 1 for the extra proficiencies and to have expertise right away, then I go the other class ti I get 5 in That class, then I come back to rogue.
I'm likely gonna do 5 assasin first for the sneak attack auto crit and utility then 7 in monk just so in total I get shadow step and some utility spells and more physical damage
Oh man, it's been awhile. Pretty sure the helm is the leather helm you can get when you get into the spore vault. The chest is sold by the lady in the mountain pass.

hello i don't really understand do you play with light armor or clothing on this build ? i see a clothing armor but a light armor headgear if i'm not wrong, so you can mix both ? i currently have a lvl 1 thief/lvl 3 monk in my team and that i want to play later as the ninja assassin/shadow monk, but i'm not sure if i should invest in wisdom with it or simply put some light armors on
I’m currently running Thief/shadow monk with dual hand cross bows and a dagger. Having a good time. Has anyone dipped into warlock level 2 for Devils Sight? How does it work with Darkness? Let me know if you guys think it’s worth.
I found a devil sight item, but you won't be able to get it until mid/late act 3. Running a 2 dip into lock for Devils sight could be useful for sure. Being able to use magical darkness for cover is very nice. But by the time you got 6shadow/3thief/2lock you'll be at the point to get the item anyways. It's up to you if you really need it earlier though.

I like the option of using Shadow Step then sneak attack with sword or dagger then escape with invisibility and return next turn
I don't like the idea of fighting with my fists alone.
Yeah you fight with both. Weapons and fists.
@@remortisgaming
ooo thanks for the answer that's great because on your gameplay I didn't see weapon's that's why I asked :D
thanks again for the answer
@@93rajczu93 I should be using a shortsword in the mainhand I think. But maybe I didn’t include that footage 😅
Dumb question.. But how does Corellon's Grace add +1 to unarmed combat attack and damage when it must be a weapon and equipped? Does it add when wielding it, or do I equip it and use Ki to attack unarmed? Thanks.
It’ll buff your bonus action fist attacks wether it’s the unarmed strike or the flurry of blows/stunning strike.
Rut roh, My main Mangcromancer went for the nonstandard pronunciation on the internet and The comment section does not disappoint.
Lol you have no idea. After awhile I got tired of replying so I just straight up deleted quite a bit. Now I just ignore it at this point.
Since the build is for a ninja, when going for flavor on background Folk Hero or Guild Artisan would actually be more applicable since many real life ninja "hid" themselves as everyday folk and workers, especially during undercover assignments.
Very true.
Also people sleep on the minor illusion cantrip but if you need to group up people for an AOE blast to start a fight off on a good foot then it's a god send.
Agreee!
New to this but what about taking the eldritch adept feat to get devil sight? Drop darkness on people then run in and beat them up, does that work in this game or are you losing too much by taking that feat?
Eldritch adept isn’t in bg3 sadly (yet) otherwise that’s a fantastic option
I don't recommend going half orc for a monk as their savage attacker passive specifies that it increases their crit damage with melee weapons, which monks don't use much. Excellent race for paladin, fighter, barbarian, melee ranger/rogue though.
I use meleee weapons often with this build, especially with the Undermountain shortsword.
Love this build, going to play it on my "self" campaign when i'm not playing with friends! think this will be super fun and different than my normal playstyle (pallock or Barb). keep up the great content! always enjoy watching your stuff and builds! Thanks for all you do!
I want a shinobi/magic hybrid build. I want to be able to use melee weapons and magic. Anyone have any recommendations and why???
Shadow Monk + A few levels of warlock might be a good fit. you could grab Devil Sight upgrade from Lock to be able to see in your shadows. Among all the other goodies locks get.
I know youve done a bardlock already but I would love to see bardadin!
Will probably come after Lockadin. Might also include bardadin too.
@@remortisgaming I'm not sure how powerful it would be but it's definitely fun from a roleplay standpoint
still think gloomstalker/assassin build is better and synergizes better
3 levels in warlock just to cast darkness and see in it may cost a feat but it's really cool thematically and darkness is actually crazy good in combat.
open hand 9/barbarian 3 would be awesome too
Any Thoughts on Polearm master? Also Shout out for the Gith getting Jump, Mage Hand, and Misty step (all good for Monk).
Polearm master is pretty sweet for anyone who can use it. There’s a lot of feats that the monk/thief would want.
I would love to see a detailed gear video for this build although I have many thoughts on what to use it’s hard to make a choice and some outside input would be awesome
Ring of Eversight
I am doing a Gold dwarf rogue monk now. Plus 1 HP for every level feat dwarven toughness. Useful 16 Con too, another plus 1 HP. Almost fighter level. Used Auntie Ethel for Wis to 16.
Sweet! Smack em with those axes and hammers!
Dont know if anyone can help, when i use shadow step i cant use sneak attack bc i dont have "advantage" even tho the shadow step gives you advantage. Im new to all of this so im maybe misunderstanding how the sneak attack works
Are you getting disadvantage from another source? Are you using a finesse weapon?
I'm using dual short swords dont know if that's the problem? Btw great video! Really helped me alot in what path of my build to go
@@Sossa400 If you're getting disadvantage by any means you wont be able to sneak attack (unless an ally is nearby)
@remortisgaming I might have disadvantage might test after work, but thanks for the replay!
@@Sossa400 sadly 1 instance of disadvantage cancels out all advantage you have
You keep talking about how the monk rogue is squishy, but a way to solve this is to go level 5 rogue where you take only half damage from most attacks
"Unlimited" giant hill potions (if you like to steal alot) from lvl3 onwards + tavern brawler -> happy days.
Dipping into GOO warlock 1 lvl for frighten on crit with assassin
a lvl 2 dip could also get you devilsight!
I didnt like 6/6, so I dipped 1 lvl into GOO as well ( I was long thinking what can be the best) and thats rly enough, it's kinda solo machine for most fights, considering how many times you can reset fight and suprise enemies xD (I pref short sword+ dagger with some tasty spell or effect, or just 2 short swords and feat alert xD)
shadow monk is so much fun
I just wish it’s ki abilities weren’t so expensive
I wish they didn't cost bonus action :( because most of the time I find it better to just punch @@remortisgaming
@@McDudes that’s why grabbing thief is so good for extra bonus action
true I did that recently too and yeah it opened up a ton more gameplay options@@remortisgaming
What a wholesome channel.
I have not watched this yet but I just don't like not being able to use fists. Will comment more later.
But you still use fists with your free unarmed strike and flurry of blows! (And many times might I add)
@@remortisgaming Yeah, I am working so I will need to check it out later but I might consider it but I might also just go full Monk just for the sake of it.
Subbed and added this comment to help your channel grow.......BTW it's pronounced "Key".....*runs away*
💀
key(ki) points
❤cerdet Card ❤
The way you pronounce it bothers me. Its key bro lol
Very easy way to efficiently activate Sneak Attack
is Monk/Ranger viable? i just want to be a Monk and can have doggo around.
Oh, a beastmaster? Possibly.
Nice
Kai ... lol the hatchet wielding hitchhiker
I play dark urge and dump str to add to charisma for the intimidation checks. If you don't do auntie ethel quest until the end of ch1, you can buy hill giant elixirs to set str to 21/long rest to take advantage of tavern brawler.
Ki rhymes with free, just fyi
Thanks for your insight.
how can you not know it's KEE
@@remortisgaming well, I know about shift, but sometimes game says I’m partially covered, but the hability won’t work 🥲
Been trying to build a shadow monk for a few days now for my honor run. For the most part I got the general idea of what I want to do.
Monk 8/ Rogue thief 3/ Trickery cleric 1
Dark urge.
Not sure on race tho. Githyanki or wood elf.
As for my stats, I was thinking a distribution as follows: 13/16/12/8/15/12
With TB and Ethel's hair I can pump my STR to 14 and WIS to 16 plus another 2 STR from that one potion in act 2.
@@alanvaladez559 ahahaha you're after my heart. That's why I also invest into STR even if it's not my main stat. I too am a Loot goblin.
@@remortisgaming Do you also go back and forth between merchant and 1 area to finish looting despite having 18 STR due to being encumbered? XD I even loot the forks and spoons xD
@@alanvaladez559 that's what the Chest of mundane is for! It acts like a bag of holding and converts everything into silverware lol and then you take it out later to vendor
11:00 you mention that Half-Orc Savage Attack works with melee crit strike damage, but do you know if it works with unarmed attacks? The description says Melee Weapon Attack which means you need to have a weapon equipped, no?
Yes. It does.
Love me some HORCs
i was thinking about shadow monk/gloomstalker, but i don't know, monk/rogue it feels better?
It’s definitely nice, but that extra bonus action is a gamechanger for monks
sounds like a good dark urge build
What is the armor shown at 12:03 ?
Anyone hesitant to play dark urge, just stop and play it by far my favorite play through for a good guy or bad guy
Agreeeeeeed
so i know that martial characters don't receive extra attacks from their multi classes but i thought if i started as rogue and didn't get the extra attack i could get it from monk 5 which isn't the case. so you have to start as monk. sadge
I like to start rogue a lot of the time at level 1 for the extra proficiencies and to have expertise right away, then I go the other class ti I get 5 in That class, then I come back to rogue.
Flask of HG str sold in bulk by Auntie. Resets on level up.
Yet another reason to love Ethel.
Shadow monks would be so cool if their dark vision was magical as well
Agreed instead of having to rely on other sources. Or hell even making it passive magical darksight would be grand
for me level 2 warlock and rest is shadow monk :) devils sight
Good choice. May the darkness serve you well.
Whats Kai? Dragonball Z Kai?
Check the updated guide.
I'm likely gonna do 5 assasin first for the sneak attack auto crit and utility then 7 in monk just so in total I get shadow step and some utility spells and more physical damage
Your appearance is exactly what Im trying to get for my character, what pieces are they? Helm and pants specifically
Oh man, it's been awhile. Pretty sure the helm is the leather helm you can get when you get into the spore vault.
The chest is sold by the lady in the mountain pass.
@@remortisgaming thanks bud
8:22 listen closely
good video, thanks for your take on monk
Which is better? This or monk & gloom stalker?
For raw damage? Gloomstalker assassin. But if you want to feel like a ninja, then this is pretty fun too. I’m having a blast on all these characters!
Ok that fit is fire
This channel needs more subs. So I did.
I appreciate that. I really do
I want to be neenja
question, after shadow step i cant use sneak attack... should it work like that or not? I have advantage (bc of shadow step) - so it should work as a combo yeah?
Are you using a finesse weapon in main hand? You can’t get sneak attack from unarmed attacks.
@@remortisgaming yeah, rapier
Honestly, I feel it's unacceptable that you don't dip into Warlock for devil's sight
Because I was getting the bug of devilsight not preventing the blind from darkness.
Until ypu get the helldusk helmet in act 3 that is 🎉
It's pronounced "chee" bro.
all the other neck beards in the comments say it’s Ki. Take it up with them.
“Kai” lol, grates in my soul
Thanks for your insight.
hello i don't really understand do you play with light armor or clothing on this build ?
i see a clothing armor but a light armor headgear if i'm not wrong, so you can mix both ?
i currently have a lvl 1 thief/lvl 3 monk in my team and that i want to play later as the ninja assassin/shadow monk, but i'm not sure if i should invest in wisdom with it or simply put some light armors on
Nah I’m wearing the clothing hat cause it looks cool
@@remortisgaming it does right
making ryu hayabus in BG3
Elements monk definitely does that
I’m currently running Thief/shadow monk with dual hand cross bows and a dagger. Having a good time. Has anyone dipped into warlock level 2 for Devils Sight? How does it work with Darkness? Let me know if you guys think it’s worth.
Haven’t found any items for devils sight sadly
I found a devil sight item, but you won't be able to get it until mid/late act 3. Running a 2 dip into lock for Devils sight could be useful for sure. Being able to use magical darkness for cover is very nice. But by the time you got 6shadow/3thief/2lock you'll be at the point to get the item anyways.
It's up to you if you really need it earlier though.
@@remortisgamingwhat is the name of the item and where can you find it?
