I think you're the first sailing channel I've seen that doesn't beg for donations. UA-cam is rife with sailing panhandlers that want others to pay for their sail bum lifestyle. And no ads too! Good on ya. Love the Hans Christian! My favorite thing about is is the beautiful solid teak everywhere. Just amazing.
Glad you found our channel and yes, there are a lot of people out there looking for financial return for making this type of content, but we just do it for fun and our 'payment' is getting to connect and meet like-minded people who share the same passion for sailing as we do. 😁 We love our HC and love the amount of teak she has on board, a vessel that we waited a long time to find! :)

1978 Hans Christian … Cadillac construction with an eye for global cruising. To see an example of a 44 year old Hans Christian in her condition is beyond impressive. How proud you must be … and rightfully so. I hope to sit and see her on the hook one of these years (å ligge på svei) … it would be a gift to enjoy her beauty. Happy to see an update! Your videos are always the best cinematography quality and very enjoyable so if you feel inclined to film your outings and preparations it will be appreciated. On the other hand, I think it will take many many hours of shooting and editing to get to that standard. Feel free to just enjoy sailing, life, family and friends without always waving a camera around. An update with the GoPro once in a while is good too.

Looks like that NWT posting was a real learning experience. It must be like Manna from Heaven to be back. It's expensive to live on the west coast, and certainly not perfect, but once it gets into your soul, you cannot get it out.
Glad to be back with the camera again and thanks, we love the boat too. :). My dad is doing well and we saw him on the drive down, he plans to come out for a sail this summer so watch for that. :)
Thanks Dave and welcome back - both to the coast and to the vids. My understanding is that the Hans Christian and the NorthSea-style rescue boats she is modeled after, is a "canoe-stern". It refers to the shape of the stern, not the position of the rudder. It was developed to provide a bit more reserve buoyancy than a traditional "double-ender" which is more pointed in the stern.

It's great to see these types of videos again! The BIG question is when can we expect to see the long distance cruising videos where you're sipping tropical drinks and commenting on the colors of the water where you are anchored? Cheers!
Wonderful to see you back. She is my Dream Boat! Wonderful ventilation but I wonder how you deal with bugs? Also a view into the bilge access to see how the builder utilises that space?
Glad to be back. :) We do love all the ventilation on our HC, and all the port lights are screened and all of the hatches have screens as well. The hatch screens just sit in the hanging locker, but could be kept in place on the hatches if we wanted. I just prefer maximum light coming in though. :) Bugs aren't much of an issue on BC's southern coast in the Gulf Islands, but definitely need them on BC's north coast! I could show the bilge and under the cabin sole in an upcoming episode. :)
love the extra few feet you get over the 38. i can't imagine the colossal expense and disassembly that must happen with a new engine. do you hoist it through the butterfly hatch or the entry? 25 grand or 50? gorgeous and iconic boat.
Yes, there is quite a difference in size between the 38 and 43. The engine was installed by the previous owners, from what I understand the engine goes out through the butterfly hatch for these boats. Not sure of the cost though as we didn't do it.

Looks like that NWT posting was a real learning experience. It must be like Manna from Heaven to be back. It's expensive to live on the west coast, and certainly not perfect, but once it gets into your soul, you cannot get it out.
The north was great, but very happy to be back on the BC coast for sure!!

Thanks Dave and welcome back - both to the coast and to the vids. My understanding is that the Hans Christian and the NorthSea-style rescue boats she is modeled after, is a "canoe-stern". It refers to the shape of the stern, not the position of the rudder. It was developed to provide a bit more reserve buoyancy than a traditional "double-ender" which is more pointed in the stern.

It's great to see these types of videos again! The BIG question is when can we expect to see the long distance cruising videos where you're sipping tropical drinks and commenting on the colors of the water where you are anchored? Cheers!

Wonderful to see you back. She is my Dream Boat! Wonderful ventilation but I wonder how you deal with bugs? Also a view into the bilge access to see how the builder utilises that space?
Glad to be back. :) We do love all the ventilation on our HC, and all the port lights are screened and all of the hatches have screens as well. The hatch screens just sit in the hanging locker, but could be kept in place on the hatches if we wanted. I just prefer maximum light coming in though. :)
Bugs aren't much of an issue on BC's southern coast in the Gulf Islands, but definitely need them on BC's north coast! I could show the bilge and under the cabin sole in an upcoming episode. :)
love the extra few feet you get over the 38. i can't imagine the colossal expense and disassembly that must happen with a new engine. do you hoist it through the butterfly hatch or the entry? 25 grand or 50? gorgeous and iconic boat.
Yes, there is quite a difference in size between the 38 and 43. The engine was installed by the previous owners, from what I understand the engine goes out through the butterfly hatch for these boats. Not sure of the cost though as we didn't do it.
