Ohh man, we lived parallel lives, we youngsters would hang out by the stairs while the half-drunk adults played Moms and Redd Foxx
My crazy uncle would come upstairs to 'discipline' us and sneak a beer to us.

One joke was so funny to me, she asked why were people always tellin' the kids to watch the light before crossing the street, she wanted to know why, because a light ain't never hit nobody, you better be watching them cars. Exactly, they both had very similar acts in their jokes and appearances and Phyllis was originally a housewife not a comedian until much later in life. The 1950’s -1960’s when moms was reaching her strides in mass popularity on tv, clubs and albums. I’m sure Phyllis would have heard and seen her act and no doubt was inspired by her act to create something similar for herself. It’s not like there were a lot of female popular comedians out there to be inspired by.

I'm very familiar with Moms Mabely & I'm not a fan. Her running around in mixed matched outfits & no teeth didn't amuse me at all. 🦝'ing isn't funny no matter who's doing it!

You must've not witnessed Jim Crow segregation ,with your mentality we wouldn't been able to survive, pick your battles wisely. It wasn't cooning it was survival and earning a living. Check the context of the history.
