Just did 4 of the PNW 6x9 coaxial speakers in a ram yesterday off the D5.1300 and my oh my. Now they sounded amazing!!! Super rich accurate and the highs complemented the midbass. Set the crossover at 90hz and let it rip. My new favorite speakers and now this?! Oh snap.
I think this is a great piece of equipment. After reading all the specs on their website, it's very flexible to be able to run six speakers off of just two channels or if you want to biamp, I think will be good for different applications.
I’d rather run 6 speakers off 6 channels. Choose your crossover points, time align, eq each speaker. Way better results and less boxes like this to mount. They should’ve made a small form factor dsp amp with 8 channels or more. They only just released the beta software to have a parametric eq. AC is WAY behind.
I worked in a decent size shop that invested in CNC back in 2002. This was a large scale machine, Komo Mach 3 VR512 and I would say that was the day they exited the woodworking business and entered the part cutting business. CNC makes you money when it's running, and excels at repetitive tasks. The time involved in design and setup of bespoke parts can really negate most of its benefits so you have to be aware of this when you take the plunge. You will spend less time on your craft and more time running a parts cutting business.
I have to give it to Audio Control for coming up with this passive crossover system. As long as DSP connections are made with RCA cables (since 99% of car amps don't have digital input) and not Digital Optical cables I find their use in car stereos to defeat their purpose. This is a great way to keep a consistent yet quality analog signal allowing 3 way speaker set ups.
This would be an absolutely amazing piece IF, you were able to adjust the crossover points, as well. That way, it would be more of a universal type of crossover, for any speaker brand.
A new category of passive Xover, I'll start calling it the para-passive. Because you have more options (like a parametric eq) over a fixed passive (graphic eq).
There is a 180 degree phase shift at the crossover region with 12dB/Oct slopes... did they take this into account? Or just experiment with polarity to see what sounds best?
Active there's no crossovers you run it by a dsp and select the frequencys based on speakers that becomes your crossovers. Passive is when it comes with a little box and that has the frequencys and cut off points of each speaker .
@808SSCamaro it all comes out down to your budget . For active you'll need to run a little more wire to each speaker. And depending on what you want to run there's different outputs of dsps right now . Audio control makes a 8 and 10 put . For me in my car I'm only doing active in the front and staying passive on the back with a 6 channel amp . Remember to run active you'll need more than 4 channels so that means a 6 channel amp or two 4 channels which brings the price really high .
So what if I take a mid base speaker a mid range speaker and a tweeter and put them together? Can that create the perfect cross over for them? To. Work together even though they're not made by the same company or not created together as a unit
I guess I don’t understand this product. Unless a person is buying raw drivers, most 2 way and 3 way sets come with a passive or the passive can be purchased. Most people interested in a 3 way and the extra install work would at minimum be active and usually looking at dsp and don’t care about a passive anyway.
Not everyone wants to run active, this allows the use of any amp no matter if it is stereo, 4 channel, or 6 channels. It simplifies installs for us who install all day everyday.
Do many people still do passive 3 way? I would have thought that most people who would buy a 3 way speaker system would want a dsp to get the most our of the speakers. 3 ways aren't a budget purchase. I guess a Anti DSP audio purist might by it,
A couple reasons high end amps are expensive, especially if you’re into vintage SQ A/B . A good McIntosh 431 is $1,400 to run active front passive rear you’re $2,800 plus a DSP. The Morel Hybrid 63 passive is $1,400.
@@FiveStarCarStereoInc do you guys deal with Audiotec Fischer? Because those are very affordable for sure and their tuning capabilities are superior by far. Canadian pricing on a M Six DSP is ALOT less than AC D6.1200 and by extension around 1000 less than a VXI 6 channel. JL and AC so overpriced it’s not even funny.
Just another half-assed product that nobody wanted or asked for. Audiocontrol needs to focus on one product (their DM Smart application) and get it right. Not having adjustable crossovers and only 12db slopes is a big mistake.

Great idea and space saver. One crossover hub, fewer wires.

This should have been introduced back in the early 90s!
That’s where the product belongs. AC way behind. Useless piece of kit.
@@Dman199739 😂 lemme guess you are a skar guy
@@andraealston8478 LOL far from it. Use Audiotec-Fischer on the daily. I Prefer a company that innovates and always raises the bar.
These components look high quality and pricing isn't to bad , Audio Control has always made exceptional products
I might be in love with that crossover....
Fantastic product..... Can't wait to finally get my hands on a nice set of decently priced 6x9 comp sets

Unfortunately it doesn’t work like that, as different ohm coils will have different crossover points with the same crossover.

I guarantee just like all audio crossovers you can swap chips
@Tamara Armstrong a standard traditional passive xover has no chips to swap.
MY SHOP IS CONSIDERING ADDING THEIR LINE OF SPEAKERS. WE CARRY ALL THE PROCESSORS & AMPS

It would be so cool if someone could make a passive crossover with delay built in.
I understand why it doesn't work, just think it would ba cool.
How many watts per channel does it handle?
I'm still confused on what active and passive means. Thanks for the unboxing!
Active there's no crossovers you run it by a dsp and select the frequencys based on speakers that becomes your crossovers. Passive is when it comes with a little box and that has the frequencys and cut off points of each speaker .
@@smurfeco2.358 Thanks! What would be a reason to stay passive and not just go active if you have a dsp? Price?

Active is worth it if your looking to make a sound quality system. Or create your own speakers in the output that's the benefit of running dsp

Any idea how these audiocontrol speakers sound?
Not much information about them yet
I have a question if I do this setup with the 4 channel amp plus my lc1.800 can a matrix plus but used along with this setup or is it not needed.

Pretty sure it's made for the new speakers from AC, not just any speaker set.
These are made for the new AudioControl PNW speakers.

👍
Can't you just run SOURCE / EQUALIZER / AMP / SPEAKER ??? Use high level input on the amp?
Is that 150 W per channel
The crossover is rated for 150W per left and right channel......The sum of Tweeter, Midrange, and Midbass for each channel.
Do many people still do passive 3 way? I would have thought that most people who would buy a 3 way speaker system would want a dsp to get the most our of the speakers. 3 ways aren't a budget purchase. I guess a Anti DSP audio purist might by it,
3 way speakers have become very affordable and DSP amps have not followed suit.

I would be perversely curious to see the market research that compelled Audiocontrol to bring this to market in the year 2023.
