I really think your work can save lives if it’s looked at in the right context: reminding people to enjoy the outdoors but to be prepared.
The most important when i sailed alone was to tell one person where i was going and when i would be back. Secondly to have a compass/backup batteries for phone and flashlight. Also take a rescue bag with extra water, tablets to clean dirty water and first aid kit. As others have mentioned an actual map of area. Prayers for his family. He was only 32 yrs old and had made quite a name for himsrlf as a tattoo artist.
Wow , what an amazing story. I can't believe that his dogs survived the fall. I think one of them died , not from the actual accident bc they both recovered and were adopted together. So glad the one hiker survived , and great tips on survival. One thing I'd like to mention is that I feel as if the story didn't need the backstory of the drunk driving accident. Not that it isn't important, because of course it was and is but this wasn't the place for it. It's just opens a door for people to say negative things about the victim. And no one is perfect .
normally i'd agree about the backstory. but in this case, Kris deliberately hit a 16 yr. old boy w/his vehicle, drove off leaving the boy with severe head injury, & then staged an accident to explain the damage to his car. He went on to enjoy success as a tattoo artist. If anything, Rat & Cat were nice to leave out the worst of the details. I don't have much use for superstition, but it almost seems Kris was living on borrowed time.
What’s wrong with telling the whole story? Not everyone is a saint & conveniently when ppl pass they become saints. I like his honesty. He didn’t say it in a negative way but acknowledged the fact that this story & this mans journey touched others both positively & negatively. This is what real stories look like great reporting
