At 1:30 we see Woody reach up to the keyboard but ultimately decide Blake's lead is too good to distract from, all within a split second. That's the kind of talent contained within this band.
Eh. That's basic musicianship. Are you a guitarist/keyboardist/bassist/drummer? Or are you a musician? Do you serve the fretboard or do you serve the song? It says something sinister about the state of the art that this elementary trait now qualifies as impressive.
1:04 Holy shit that slide was like an actual human. Like just lit me on fire. Just crunchy enough but just so smooth. You guys gotta understand. You right the most satisfying tracks I have ever heard.
1:58 - instant guitar magic wtf sound starts developing 2:01 - Joe Dart notices there's some serious shit going on with the guitar and reacts immediately. He's overwhelmed by what he has just ear-witnessed for the next couple seconds
The simple melodies and raw emotion in this song are amazing. This is what I've always sought after as a musician. They look like they're having so much fun.
from 1:23 ..... thru the breakdown .... prolly my favorite 90 seconds of guitar/bass riffing in ever, Joe and Blake clearly feed off each other, it's bliss
I love the bit towards the end where it gets all hectic, but I wish I could hear Blake's guitar playing more clearly because it looks like he is doing some crazy stuff!
I absolutely love how Blake manually turns down the reverb after the intro, squeezing the track tighter and catching you out. It's almost like a dude strutting around a hall, humming to himself and then suddenly walking straight up to you and saying "now listen here, this is important"
So, for me this song is like a life lesson. From 0:00 to 2:42 is childhood, a phase without worries or stress, just chilling and playing. From 2:43 to 3:09 is adulthood, phase with a lot of stress and time of making money, responsability hits you hard and growing up is a must, and from 3:09 is elderly... a peacefull tune for a peacefull time.
i hadn't heard this song before and it came up on autoplay. thought "wow, is this new? such a cool sound, love this new direction." 2015. vulfpeck is eternal.
Please make some more of these airy, meandering melodies, my Vulfbrothers. Your music lifts me up and at this moment, you are just what the doctor ordered. I owe you one.
If you're not already impressed, in an AMA on /r/indieheads, Jack Stratton says Blake Mills just heard the progression once, went "I got this," and then they recorded this. This is the first take.
I mean it as a compliment (and not to the detriment or detraction of Blake Mill's own skill as a guitarist) when I say that's definitely a Derek Trucks sound coming from that guitar.
I heard this song for the first time on my commute home. Spotify snuck it in one of my playlists. After a long day of work, this was just what I needed. Thanks a lot Vulfpeck, you just got yourself a new fan today. *Thumbs Up*
Ive just come across you guys, a year late maybe, but it's so good to see a group of people having so much fun with their music. Ive been going through your songs and that energy doesn't dissipate, just seems to get as intense with everything you write and ever so playful. Its an absolute pleasure to listen to, keep on creating!
anyone know how he's doing that slide at 1:05? Sounds insane. Also sounds an octave higher than he's actually playing. Something to do with the harmonic he hits first maybe? V curious!
He hits the natural harmonic at the 12th fret and then starts a slide up from behind the nut, it’s wild but I incorporate it into my slide playing all the time and it’s a really great sound
This song is so beautiful, Blake Mills is an incredible guitarist! Everyone did absolutely amazing this song! And this just gives me such a warm feeling. I'm blown away every time I hear this song! I love it so much! Thank you VULFPECK!
I was exposed to this song on spotify's "discover weekly" playlist and it is genuinely one of my favorite songs of all time if not the number 1 spot holder. listen to that playlist guys this stuff can change your whole perspective on music
Every time i see Blake Mills playing I imagine him saying "I paid for the whole guitar, I'm gonna use the whole guitar"
Fire comment, bro

nailed it
"well except for the middle pickup... I'm throwing that away."
that fucking foot thing was hilarious and came out of no where.
bridge pickup
+Vulf where did you guys learn to play like that? and how'd you get it so tight?
Luv to groove!
Ha chah!
*(]°•D
+Casey Taylor You get that tight by listening a lot, but more by jamming with each other.
That slide tho, his face like "guys guys looooooooooook".
I'm worried I'll wake up one day and find that Vulfpeck was just a dream.
How dare you put that thougth in my head! That would be disgusting...
Then let me dream with you, because this band soothes my soul
Then you can copy all those tracks and make a mildly successful youtube channel. Hey isn't that a movie already?
Don’t even air such an idea.
do they still make music?
Ya'll need to move Joe away from the wall when you record, shit's gonna get too funky and he's gonna hit his head
"too funky" ... there's an oxymoron if I've ever heard one ...
Too funky = Enlightenment
'"Hydraulic neck" Joe Dart.

This song makes me wanna order stuffed crust instead of reg crust. DAMN
+dosmoipasto I was thinkin the same thing
These are the comments.
This song makes me want to put 30 packets of ketchup on a hotdog.
Blake's pickup change at 1:54 coinciding with enlargement of his feet = editing genius.
I don’t know how many times I watched this and never caught that. Maybe I was listening but not watching
Watched 30 seconds, switched tabs to read something and came back to Blake's giant feet getting funky, was not disappointed
Even the switch was percussive
1:04 THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST SOUNDING LICK OF THE HISTORY OF LICKS godammit
jimthecurly listen to Derek Trucks.
ive never heard such a sound coming from a guitar. notice how Woody reacts to it. as if god himself blew on the back of his neck.
yeah I had an eargasm when I heard that slide lick and immediately thought of derek trucks
Derek Style!
I made an audible "oooh yeah" at that slide, so damn smooth it's disgusting
I love how the dog just walks through and nobody cares. This band is so chill.
1:04 Holy shit that slide was like an actual human. Like just lit me on fire. Just crunchy enough but just so smooth. You guys gotta understand. You right the most satisfying tracks I have ever heard.
2:42 I was so unprepared
LMAO yeessss
caprice.t whatttt that’s the part you gotta blast!!
lmao…
0:23 if you listen closely you can hear the sound of the dog walking away. They left it in the mix.
Man, this made this track way tastier. Nice hearing dog. Gracias amigo.

This is gonna sound super cheesy, but one of the best things about Vulfpeck vids is that you can see joy in the comments. I love y'all *sniff*
This comment really doesn't help your "666tommytomtom666" rep.
Yes.
Truth be told. It's the cream on the cherrycake.

2:01 - Joe Dart notices there's some serious shit going on with the guitar and reacts immediately. He's overwhelmed by what he has just ear-witnessed for the next couple seconds
Joe smiles, a common reaction to a good slide fill
The simple melodies and raw emotion in this song are amazing. This is what I've always sought after as a musician. They look like they're having so much fun.
Same.
Blake Mills must have the greatest knob control on earth
and a deformed right hand pinkie!
You could have also left out the word control there
"that's what she said"
- Michael Scott
I can control my knob pretty well
He can control my knob any day
Sorry but the guitar sound is so nice that I now find everything else in my life offensive.
Russ Poore relatable
you a fan of Derek Trucks?? if not you ought to check him out
I laughed a good bit reading this hahaha
lol same
I am beginning to understand why Joe Dart has such big neck muscles
favourite part is watching joe dart lose his shit over blake mills.
too dang smooooooth
Blake's favorite party food: sliders.
Blake's favorite activity: slip 'n slide.
Blake's favorite urban dictionary word: sliding.
Blake's favorite Paul Simon tune: Slip Slidin Away
Guess how blake goes to home plate
@@jacobc874Na, this man slides into first base and touches the base with that right pinky.
Joe's face at 1:57 is really the only natural human reaction to what's happening at that moment.
At least we know he's not a robot from planet funk
When Blake sends Joe into a full head bob at 2:03 from the little slide harmonic!
I have watched this so many times and it never gets old
1:58 the greatest phrase of all time, Joe Dart goes absolutely insane, look at that neck
Look at the size of Katzman's feet at 1:58! What is that about?
You mean Blake Mills? Haha Jack does weird edits from time to time
haaaaa. Noticed it too. Hilarious on an otherwise sick jam
agreed. especially in head phones, it tingles the spine.
The emotion
he feels that shit you can tell
This is straight up evil jazzfunk man. I'm enamoured.
holy shit this guitar's sound
One of the most creative pieces of guitar I’ve ever seen. Blake mills is a god
Vulfpeck: One of the greatest bands at telling a story without the use of lyrics
I just discovered Vulfpeck, and man... This band and hits music genuinely improves my quality of life. Keep doing what you do fellas!
from 1:23 ..... thru the breakdown .... prolly my favorite 90 seconds of guitar/bass riffing in ever, Joe and Blake clearly feed off each other, it's bliss

Listen in the left headphone, you can still hear it there a bit if you concentrate
Blake's thing that he does starting at 1:58 gave me incurable funk face.
never been so happy on a tuesday night
+Sonia Maral It's Wednesday "when" I am right now. And, I agree.
+Sonia Maral I wish i could say the same, but it's monday morning...
It's Tuesday here and I'm in agreeance with you
Great song. I wonder if the dude on the right has a sore neck after that session. He's like a stork trying to swallow a fish.
literally the most accurate depiction of the Dart man in action
I'm weak hahah I play piano and I move my whole body like that. Never seen a dude moving just his head!
He's really putting the "peck" in Vulfpeck. AHAHAHAHAHAHA
that's Joe Dart, he just does that
Joe Dart is an invertebrate. Such things do not affect him.

That slide at 1:05 is so fucking cool
Jack.Naughton again...Derek Trucks
Joe’s face at 2:03ish is the reason I play music. Never will get to contribute to anything like this but that feeling... fuck. Indescribable.
that's not a reaction to the music, he just noticed blake's crazy feet
DAT GUITAR....damn guys, this is like the freshest thing I've listened in a looong time.
The more I hear , the more I love this band. That slide break at the start! Anyone else watch the old show, Taxi. Great vibes of early hours New York.

Casual dog struttin' through the actual recording session.
+Caboose2642 Haha I never noticed it was in the actual track til now
where in the video? what time?
+jtn191 ah never mind, I heard that and saw Blake changing settings
+Caboose2642 Its even better because they left it in there
the jingle of a dog's collar would be good right here
The noises coming out Blake's guitar are beautiful, preposterous and mesmerising.
That's laugh at 2:00 from Joe make my day !! They really really, really have fun together !!!
the most subtle things make me smile while watching their videos
This is so. fucking. good.
There is nothing in this universe that I have spent more time doing than listening to this song.
hello from Hungary :)))))
I have just found Vulfpecks songs... :ooooooooo
can't say anything.... It's music
Please make some more of these airy, meandering melodies, my Vulfbrothers. Your music lifts me up and at this moment, you are just what the doctor ordered. I owe you one.
You can hear Jack's unused ragtime piano track bleeding through one of the mics
Along with El Chepe, Jack's just cutting out his parts.
What an understated but incredibly tasty little tune.
Awesome guys . . . just excellent.
God, this is so nice. I'm smiling uncontrollably.
Memory's playing tricks on me... haven't watched this in a while and I thought I remembered Blake's feet *actually* being that big normally.
Is unfair because the only way he plays like that is becuase of his GOD SIZED FEET
He won't get blown over in a hurricane, but he may slide a little :)
We need you Vulfpeck! Please save the planet.

blake mills is truly a man who plays guitar. i also loved the original rango, and i also also love the dog. well done, all.
You guys are just so ridiculously groovy it's totally unreal... you fit so well the definition of Maceo's "happy music". Keep it up!
If you're not already impressed, in an AMA on /r/indieheads, Jack Stratton says Blake Mills just heard the progression once, went "I got this," and then they recorded this. This is the first take.

Vulfpeck isn't a band, they're and energy and a mood.
My favourite song of all time, hands down. The whole thing is the a video essay on dialogue in song, and it’s so damn GROOVY
If Joe and Woody sat too close to each other they'd have concussions.
anyone know how he's doing that slide at 1:05? Sounds insane. Also sounds an octave higher than he's actually playing. Something to do with the harmonic he hits first maybe? V curious!
Brooks Allison He's using a slide throughout the song if that's what you're wondering about
No I know he's using a slide. It's specifically that little slide up. it sounds like he's using a trick to make it sound an octave higher.
called a pitch off ,lightly tapping the string with you're finger
He pulled a natural harmonic, let it ring and then fret with the slide
He hits the natural harmonic at the 12th fret and then starts a slide up from behind the nut, it’s wild but I incorporate it into my slide playing all the time and it’s a really great sound

The guitaristery is impeccable wow! I just found about you... That's too good
