A Victor Wooten solo is like parkour down a mountain.
😂😂😂😎👍👍👍
Spot on !!!
its more like UP a mountain given the effort ...but yes
@@EvilSean62 depends who’s playing it.. Vic or someone else! 🫣🤭🫠
He knows his way around a bass, no question about it.
I really appreciate that Cory Wong is continuing to pump out the funk at such an alarming rate. He's up to 2 or 3 albums a year right? And that's good, because let's face it: we want the funk. Gotta have that funk.
Make my funk the P Funk, I want da bomb
Yes sir, we do. :)
Ow.
Sorry, stubbed my toe.
gotta have it man
😂😂😂
I like how the band members clearly appreciate each other's playing.
It's called playing because it's fun.
Yeah, that seems to be a key feature of this great ensemble
I felt the same thing
When I saw them live, I walked away with this sentiment so much after the show. Love it!!!
yes its how it should be instead of ego and always wanted to be in the lime light . let others have a turn ! :)#
The fucking horn section is absolutely bonkers.. what a talented group of musicians. Quality content.
The horn section is the one thing missing from Vulfpeck. Don't get me wrong, though. I love me some Vulfpeck, but a slammin' (heh-heh, that's a Huey Lewis and the News reference) horn section takes it to a whole other level of awesomeness! Funk bands need horns! If Joey ever reads this comment, I'm sorry, man. You're amazing, but sometimes you're just not enough (in my opinion)!
@@gustafsone Have you discovered the Fearless Flyers yet? There are the horns and Vulfpeck you're looking for with a little less funk.. Kenni and the Jets, Bicentennial, Birdwatcher, Adrienne and Addrianne.. many reimaginings of Vulfpeck songs with horns.
@@nutinurmacaroni Oh yes, for sure! I think Fearless Flyers only had horns on that one album? There wasn't any brass, though. That album also turned me on to Grace Kelly and Eddie Barbash. I was already aware of Kenni. I'm sure you already have, but you should look up Grace Kelly and check out more of her stuff. She's really great!
@@gustafsone You're right.. there weren't actually as many songs with horns I thought there were. I honestly hadn't checked out any of them outside of FF and the Wong Notes but after seeing a little snippet of Grace and her Billie Jean cover I'll def have to check her out.
Basically Prince's last horn section, right? Or at least the arranger, Michael Nelson.
This Wooten guy sure knows his way around a bass. I'm sure he has an amazing career ahead of him.
Welcome to our humble planet. 👽
Hahahahaha 🇧🇷
Victor has been here bro. He’s among The greats.
@@albertvillalba4008 haha yeah I know I was being sarcastic😂been watching Victor for a long time
@@albertvillalba4008 WHOOSH
Cory Wong looks like a youth pastor but my God can he lead a band 🙌
Holy fuck hahhahahha
a Man of God fr
Funk is religion. Wong and Wooten are my deities
❤️
@@Elwood.J.Blues13 Amen, brother!
Cory Wong is singlehandedly pumping life back into the music industry that hasn't been seen in decades.
Cory's reaction to Wooten during his solo is priceless, real recognize real!
Funk makes me miss Average White Band, AND Tower of Power, Brothers Johnson (“Get tha Funk outta Mah Face!” Funk is THE BEST GROOVE and DANCE music. At 67 I still have to Jump Out Ma Chair and get on the Floor. FUNK always puts me in a great mood If I’m not in the mood already! Yeah! Get Wit It Babe, get Dat Butt Jigglin and let me stand behind and just Watch it. So Hot. The shape of a woman’s . Great shapely Butt is truly a gift. I love watchin’ a beautiful woman “get Jiggy wit It” and one who knows how to move it and not be shy about movin’ it’
It's also kind of sweet, knowing it was a Wooten solo that made Cory pursue a career in music 😊 My boy is watching his hero.
Just this:🤯 And shout out to Michael Nelson. Dude, those horn arrangements are genius. And Victor? omg. You all killed it.
Agreed 1000%
Especially those triplet perfect fourths at 2:28
Mr. Nelson for president 🔥🔥
Serious ass arrangements.
Agreed. The Horns are absurd.
Back in high school jazz band, THIS is what I wanted to be when I grew up...
Same. This is what I dreamed of creating all through my late teens and 20’s. Never quite had the god given talent to get to this level. Wasn’t for a lack of trying. I feel like I’m able to appreciate it all that much more though as a consumer. Love what the younger generation is doing for funk
That horn section isn’t brass…it’s gold baby!
Well, well, said! I'm copping that one. Monsters each and together!
Oh yessir it is
Shivers, man, you said it so right!
Give the Baritone some. 😎
Absotootly
3:30 absolutely blows my mind. It's like he double thumbs a harmonic then slides it down during the middle of a crazy slap groove. My face is stuck after hearing this
been trying to figure out how he made that sound! another commenter mentioned he's maybe also fretting with his right hand here?
if we are talking about the same sound, it happens when you are slapping the g or the d string and i do not think he does it intentionally and would normally considered a fail but sounds awesome here
its crazy right?
@@crohnmagduru Nah man, Victor knows exactly what he’s doing
I don't know if that is what he used here, but one special technique by Wooten is to thumb and let a harmonic ring with the thumb nail up, followed by bending the harmonic with the left hand. Whatever he did here it sounds awesome!
Wong is on his way to having the tightest band in the US and taking the funk of 10000 lakes to the future.
Keep
It
Up
Cory
Unreal! Just when you think the bass solo's coming BOOM dueling sax action. Best of the new series so far.
We are living in a golden age of great new music. Right now. I'm talking late 70's quantity level of greatness.
With THIS horn section, THIS bass solo and THIS rhythm section you almost started a new genre. I'll call if futurefunk. It grooved so hard I almost snapped my neck nodding along making a stank face throughout the entire song.
So i believe the EDM community kind of already has future funk as a subgenre :(
Future funk is already a genre, and it’s exactly what you said. All groove, no breaks
Thank you for stank face.
Good stuff!
If you want Wooten to do futurefunk you need his brother future man
Respect a band leader / namesake, who lets the spotlight follow the music around the bandstand. Cory is a class act.
I love how during his solo literally everyone including the sax guys are just blown away by victor and like well shit…
haha I know. Cory was just like...da fuck is this dude doing with that bass?!?!
I thought the reactions looked fake as hell
Man! that whole band orchestration is so dope!
Started listening to Victor Wooten 20 years ago and he’s still the master
Perfect, love it, Victor is a legend.
who?
legend is a victor
Habe mir schon gedacht, dass Davis Fan von Cory ist 🙃😉
As a friend who saw him live once 20 years ago said when he watched this video: “The guy looks exactly the same as he did back then!!” I replied that it’s likely because he just has a great time being Victor Wooten. That smile says it all.
@@colinwallace5286
NO.
wooten is god!
When I saw that right handed guitar being played upside down, I knew it had to be Sonny Thompson. Loved his work with Prince and the NPG back in the day. 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾
So great how the Band help's to built Victors Solo with so much space and little elements. Amazing musicians!
Grooves like hell and digging so much the horn section. So tight
Victor is right man, Cory is doing something special. Will be considered an important 21st century musician and leader at some point!
I also believe he is right. Victor is one of, if not THE, best electric bassists in the world, but his music isn't really accessible for a lot of people who aren't musicians themselves. He is a technical master, but a lot of his music isn't very catchy or have a hook to bring people in. Given the success of Vulfpeck, Cory has taken it to another level entirely with this band, and I think the only roadblock right now is just people don't know about his music. If they heard it, they'd love it!
correct
@BLVCK CVT ❤️
I love seeing the word "nasty" getting redefined in real time!
And the horn arrangement?
What can be said? Just awesome!!!
Love the drums at the beginning of Victor's solo. Starting with kick only, then HH on up beats, then snare. So simple yet so effective. And that bend by Victor!
Those horn lines…so sick! And I love victor laying down a less complicated, but so tight, bass solo
the lick/groove that Victor plays at 3:30 is absolutely insane!!! The Trumpet player in the far back knows what i'm talkin about!!
Reggie Wooten lick. Vic and Reggie are the masters of sycopated thumping.
Great Arranging and execution of big band funk! Victor Wooten: Still, the all time bass funkmeister.
This is what the music scene needs right now real musicians PLAYING...the horn section is crazy and Victor is doing what he does best he plays the pocket then turn him loose and it's game on...lol.
Thanks for this video
Victor rebirthed himself in that solo.
They all looked like kids for a moment.
So awesome! I hope you work more with Victor in the future!!
Dude that was so rad. Really had a lot of good energy and I really enjoyed it. I was head nodding through the whole thing. Good vibes man.
This NEVER gets old! Awesomeness in a can!
The time and effort that mustve gone into this is amazing!
That bass solo created a black hole in another universe.
Hahahaha
The horn section is absolutely mind-blowing! Victor wooten is my favorite bass player of all time.
This was an epic display of funk, groove and musicianship!
Nêga Santos enchendo o brasil de orgulho 👏
What a band ☺️
That sax section solo, and of course Vic-Thor! And Cory was just happy to make them shine. ❤
Those horns sound so beautiful! Loved this, thanks guys!
Beyond great. I'm a rocker, but this transcends simple categorization. Love watching Cory do his thing. Everybody's smokin'
I really really REALLY like that counter line the horns play at 1:10. It compliments the other parts so well while being great in itself.
Great playing, very enjoyable 😊
I really hope music like this never dies. It's simply amazing
Most of us could practice 20 hours a day for 40 years and not be anywhere as good as Wooten is on bass... This is otherworldly. The timing, the syncopation, ahhh my gosh that was an amazing bass solo
Isn't that what it's all about?
Right. I'm going to practice 20 hours a day for the next 40 years and see if your theory is correct.
Watch this space in 2062.
Victor must have started playing bass while in the womb..
@@bikerhighmiler8998 He started playing several previous lives ago.
@@onesong2001 seems that way!!
This is one of the best videos to grace the internet in a long while.
What a beautiful arrangement.
Awesome. Thanks. This show just keeps getting better and better
Next level. Victor is insane and really lovin' that very tasty bari solo!
That busy brass section is killin it.
Just a total joy to watch. Fantastic work everyone!
I just discovered this a couple days ago. Wow!! The horn section! The whole ensemble! Thank you!
negah's drums sound so good and dry
Bedankt
Those sax solos are pure class and taste
Wow! That brass arrangement - brilliant!
Never heard of these guys .. holy crap, I've been missing out! Their sound is out of this world.
Are you familiar with vulfpeck it's the other band that Corey Wong is in. If you have not seen it watch Vulfpeck live at Madison square gardens it's amazing
Nope but I will them check out. Thanks for reminding about this one. It fell off the radar but is now back in the light!

@@JohnKitterman glad I could help 😁
How am I just now hearing about Cory's band? 🤯
Freakin' _love_ that horn section! Drummer is great, guitars are great, keys, perc... Oh, and Victor's pretty good, too 😀. Love his tone here!
Same!
I love your music and passion, @Cory Wong! Freaking outstanding!
I love your music. Awesome musicians, victor is amazing and no words find my mouth. I am speechless. I also love the perfomance with dirty loops. Keep on grooving, Kay
The interview was further proof that nobody has ever seen Victor without his bass.
The whole arrangement is great, but those HORNS!
I've been a longtime funk lover - so appreciative that Cory is elevating it back up!
This whole song is so addictive, especially Victor's solo, just nuts
Good to feature some young new musicians like this Victor guy. He’s gonna go places.
I laughed so hard 😀
Wow, what a funk missile that tune is! Well done entire band! It's a gathering of musical overachievers, and it's freakin' awesome! Those guys on saxophones (apologies for my ignorance on wind instruments, don't mean to offend anyone) were just firing out goosebump generating runs of nasty funkiness like nobody's business. Phenomental stuff.
What a groooove! Hope to see you soon again in Rome, this time with your big band 🤟❤️
Victor's solo is just incredible as always
Horn riff heaven.
❤️
That horn section is insane
Absolutely brilliant
killin everything. love seeing victor do victor stuff with the bass
Holy shit, this is superb, the horns are mental
Saw you guys last night in ATL…you slayed!
Awesome song, as always !
Thanks for the good vibes to start the weekend !
The man the legend
Speachless.
Well, looks like I've found a new rabbit hole. What a superb band with insane sax solos and the wonderful Victor. Next to watch is Mark Lettieri, Joe Satriani and Larry Carlton. Couldn't get much bigger names !.
I feel so in the dark! WHAT IS THIS GODLY NOISE!!?? wow, this is the coolest thing since Les Claypools Purple Onion that Ive heard. Im more of a metal head so Im not up on the funkier and jazzier side of things these days. Love the horns wow! Who is this Cory Wong guy and how does he get to play with Victor Wooten and Tim Henson, what a boss, I love his energy, and he is definitely loving every second of the music more than the fans too. Fantastic!!
What a great interview with Victor. More great music
horn arrangements are pristine !!!!
The horn section kicks 'BLEEP'!!! I caught myself with the 'nasty face' throughout the song.
That pause at 3:02, so satisfying!
Right!!, the expression is so precious
Love that set! So much talent!
This is one of the best new pieces of music I've heard in quite a while.
1:02 Victor looking at the horn section like a proud papa
And they deserve it, to say the least...
man, 2 legends of bass on the same stage. thx Cory!
Love the sound!!
I’m just happy to see real musicians out there killing it.
That horn Team.... Brecker Brothers Vibes!
Commandos 😂😂🔥🔥🔥🔥
Rocks 😅
The horns are off the hook. It's a revelation of sound. Kinda like when Jake and Elwood saw a vision and decided to get the band back together ( Blues Brothers)
We need a regular dosing of music with this kind of intensity and syrupy sweet horns.
First time that I've heard of this group. I must say I like it. Very funky music.
very cool thanks
Vic is the fucking man. None better. He is the epitome of what music is about. Prolific material, always teaching here and there, always a smile and never seems to be doing anything else than having fun and enjoying the music. He just oozes dank fun awesome bass lines and I just can't muster anything but the most positive of sentiments for him.
I hope one day I can dap him up and just tell him how much his music and attitude did for me. He was the first master of music I ever searched on UA-cam. This was back in dialup days. I waited hours for a 5 min lesson and demo by him and it changed my life for the better. Put me on the beautiful path of music. Victor Wooten is important to me
Came for Victor. Floored by the horn section.
One thing about Victor I love, he has never forgotten anything that I've taught him.
Mr. Wooten
THANK YOU ‼️
My God! Love you guys ❤
