1st time I saw them I came through the doors and there's Dave in the lobby smoking a pipe like an old time British gentleman. I think people were afraid to approach him. They had quite the reputation at the time. This was Denver 1979.
Don't know how true it is , but rumour is a lot of parts of DG are recorded these days as he has arthritis . I don't know if its true or not but look on Burning up Time forum ( Stranglers ) , there's a topic on it there . I hope its not true , to me no JJ and DG , no Stranglers . Baz is good and Jim is quite new to the band , but to me the band is the original members first and foremost . Good set though this one . They do a good mixture of new and old ...though "new" Relentless is about 14 years old now !!!!!!!!
Years ago I went to a Stranglers gig and was fortunate enough to get backstage and at the time was a young journalist in college. I actually interviewed Hugh (published in college newspaper) and met the rest of the band with the exception of Dave Greenfield who was focused on his keyboards being packed up. Yes he was one of the greatest and made the Stranglers music so much more interesting and artistic than other band of the era/new wave etc. I got the impression that he was not as open or likely to be interviewed as the others. Jet Black came right over and shook my hand and when I didn't have anything to sign I picked up a piece of cracked linoleum off the floor which he gladly and personally signed for me. Wish I still had it
Loving the Stranglers since La Folie, when I discovered them. But they have become a Tribute Band with their only remaining original member as their leadsinger. Might be too harsh, but I deeply miss Hugh, Jet and Dave !
A think big Baz (tha dorty mackum!) does a really good job mesel like. But can't help thinking a band of this clout should be makin a better fist of the likes of skin deep live.
Was my all time favourite till that twat took over from Hugh. Couldn't stand him and I threw the DVD with orchestra in the bin. Fairplay to Baz but could never forgive them for Rogers or whoever he was. Rip Dave. Rip The Strangler's.
Yeah, it didn't work with Paul Roberts. Hugh was a lead singer for 16 years, then Roberts for another 16 years. Baz has been in the band for 20 years and has been a lead singer for 14 years (ie, since Roberts left in 2006).
@@PeterChatteris I saw them at the Nashville rooms back in 76 a few times and that's the way I like to keep my memories of them.Your comment is a biased personnel insult to me I find. Each to his own. I rest my case.
Wilbert Stokman are you not glad there is still a place and an appreciation for a band like the stranglers in this day and age of commercial three chord bedroom auto tune pop nonsense?
They've all lost their passion, the soul of the music was lost when Hugh left. It's just a job and an income now. The one who really shows enthusiasm is Baz and he's not really a 'Strangler', just a replacement to continue playing Stranglers classics.
Excellent stuff . Been a fan since 1977 the music still stands up.
FANTASTIC LIVE , ONLY SEEN THEM ABOUT 20 TIMES Unfortunately !!!
you are very lucky, this band was special and great
WHAT A BAND...AND BAZ ALONG WITH JJ...BRINGS GREAT ENERGY TO THE BAND
Still sending shivers down the spine 40 years later.

Shame we don't see much of Dave Greenfield on this video.........he's got to be in the top three of UK keyboard players.

:)
Every other song on this set list is arguably or actually one of the greatest ever songs. And the others are great too.
Bon concert !! la caméra principale doit toujours se trouver du côté gauche de la scène ! ;o)
Still such a great line ..."Stranger from another planet, welcome to our hole, get ya strap on ya guitar, and we'll play some rock n roll".

You can never bring back the past original sound.Lacks the raw attitude! Sounds like any other band now.

I need a new drummer no passion just going through the motions.
