I am absolutely loving watching this old video of Hugh, Chris and myself back in the good ole days when we could tour and travel! Stay sensible and hopefully we'll be out of this soon! Much love to all music fans out there. Xx!
Hopefully get to see you perform one day! Take it sleazy ;) x
The best music vid I have watched what chemistry hugh caz and Chris ( I'm in love with caz)
Absolutely amazing bass on this Caz, faultless!
Kann ich mir stundenlang anhören!
Your bass playing is wonderful. The whole performance is so tight. Best of luck in your musical adventures.
Pretty cool for a 3 piece and hats off to Hugh Cornwell for writing such great songs in the first place. No keyboards is a shame but who could ever replace the genius of the late great Dave Greenfield anyway?
he said in an interview many of the tracks when written never had keyboards anyway
@@diesekaltewelt807 The mark of a good song, doesn't matter what instruments you use if the song stands up regardless. The keyboard parts were definitely great and memorable additions
Stranglers are doing a last whirl tour in 2021, can’t see how that will work without Davey 🤔
@@calvinsweeney2503 any way bad lost great davey nice person
Yeah, not really the same without the signature Stranglers keyboard. Sorry.
No one sings those old Stranglers songs better than the great Hugh Cornwell.
Baz does.
@@alain.preudhomme No he doesn't, he sings them ok
@@alain.preudhomme Baz has a totally different vibe.
The Stranglers are (were ?) a very Cormwellesque band indeed.
And he has no ego. He’s simply brilliant.
I think I play this nearly every day…
Easily the best Hugh line up and performance on here - love Hugh's guitar noodling to fill in for Dave's keyboard solos and Caz is a powerhouse making those JJ basslines look effortless!
What a great guitarist Hugh actually is!
Beautifully constructed solo in the Down In The Sewer!
Brilliant performance and what a bass player that girl is.
Caz Cambell, she is a cracking bass player, great backing vocalist and a gorgeous gal! dx
Better looking than JJ too.
Big shoes
Wears them well
Thank you Mr. Nobel... you get the Nobel Prize for punk rock loveliness! :D xxxx
She plays Keyboards too
She was from Cradle of Filth
The vocal stylings of Hugh Cornwall fckn brilliant
I saw this amazing trio in a small club in Hamburg , too few people in the audience but they were brillant! After the gig, wow, a small conversation with Hugh, told him my fav song of the gig was BearCage! I admire all his songs since 1978 and for me, the more a familiar song differs from the original the BETTER for my ears! (Even without trumpet) IT was seldom played by The Stranglers live, and the trio now prepared it well... . Then Hugh explained me the word 'gerrymander', I asked for, didnt know what it means for 28 years?!?. Really smart and a brillant musician. I love this guy (and his BLACK humour)
Still the same Hugh Cornwell, a little older BUT can still play the strings Excellent value for your money, Nice 3 piece Band. Well done Hugh.
Great comments. I first saw Hugh with the stranglers back in 1981 (I was16 and about to leave school) He always looked older , as did JJ, Dave and Jet somethings "never change" because they all were older back in the day anyway. Pure brilliance. First and last men walk this earth but only a few survive., 👍👍👍
BRILLIANT, INDEED!!
Horn on "bear cage" : waow !!! Another magnificent one !
yes that bit is superb
@@davidbroadley1 Who is the horn soloist? He's awesome. My mate Martin used to play horn on tour with the Stranglers too. Immense. Shout-out to Caz!
@@PaulaTerryLancaster Hilary Kops, who I believe was one of the horn players the Stranglers had in the 80s.
Hugh Cornwell still has it great singer/songwriter/guitarist. You can hear that familiar Stranglers tone in his voice. Caz Campbell is wonderful on Bass and does a fine job laying down that fine groove. Just a shame there is no keyboards as Dave Greenfield was a major part of that fantastic Stranglers sound.
yeah, and some of his own songs are really good as well as all the stranglers stuff
xx!
Hugh is top class and Caz Campbell on bass.... Perfect 👍👍👍👍
thanks! xx
Great performance of Huge's Power Trio!!!!
the girl on the bass is a very good musician ,she does a very very good job(it is difficult to play a song played before by jj burnel , because listeners will always compare your game with that of jj burnel)congratulations Caz Campbell
@@cazcampbell5272 You rock girl
Wow! What a good band. That version of Hanging Around was so good.
Was lucky enough to see this trio a couple of times. Drummer is special.
The bass player has great chops imo. 👍🏼
One of the best songwriters of his generation nice sounds also from his Fender tele
I put Hugh on at the Cheese and Grain in Frome, his old band threatened legal action over posters that went up. We had to run around somerset changing the posters. A silly misunderstanding. What a great gig! lost a few quid, but saw a childhood hero!
Amazing to see Hugh with a magical base player Kaz Campbell she is amazing on base and backing vocal nice drumming too. I do hope this continues on I miss Hugh in the Stranglers though now I believe this is better original vocal and amazing Kaz on base 🤩👍👍👍
Thank you! X
bass, bass, bass, bass, buttery biscuit base.
@@richieroma HAHAHAHA!!! XX
When I was a 13 years old teen, I used to dream of owning a pair of doc martens, a black beat up lamborghini with spots of rust, cruising down the roads smoking a huge joint and munching on snickers listening to Black and White & Aural Sculpture full bast... go figure, but 37 years later I just remembered this fantasy while savouring this concert. Still lacking the lambo, got some catching up to do ;-)
Caz is brilliant, almost effortlessly playing the finale of Sewer 👏👏👏
Much love! xx
Hugh is still on top even today !
Absolutely awesome. Hope to you in Wellington NZ
What a version of his own classic tune :-)
Haha… every night… Down in the Sewer is one of the greatest songs ever… but this performance of it is totally mind blowing!!!!!
Bravo hugh que des souvenirs 80 Lang vie monsieur
So glad I found this, brought up on The Stranglers by my older brother. Amazing Bass player!
Thank you! xx
Lol, me too, way back in '78.
Gotta love ya ! 🥰😜🥳
I grew up with Grand Funk Railroad, Black Sabbath, Scorpions, to name but a few. Then came "Rattus Norvegicus" and the Stranglers became part of my daily listening routine. What we have here 30 years later is quite close to the original Stranglers sound, without the genius of Dave Greenfield but still with a certain something. The bass makes my AKG headphones cry for help!
First class this. flawless, great sound and filming too.
Bonsoir. Monsieur Hugh. Cornwall. Sans. Vous le. Reste. C'est. De. La. Merde. La voix
Spectacular gig, thank you for posting, so annoyed I am 45 years late on all this and 4 years late for catching you at the Triffid, Hugh. Love all your work 🙏 Caz is amazing ❤ as is the drummer. Nerves of Steel 💕 Oh Bearcage. Oh the Sewer! Much love 💋 Thank you all xxoo
Thanks so much! :D
Super concert. Hugh, best of best.
Awesome performance🎹🎸🎵🎶🎺🎷🎻🎸🎵🎶🎹🎸🎵🔉🔊🎷🎤
i like very much his Velvet/Lou reed inspired style.
love the bass from caz.i hope your there in 2022
Thanks so much! xx
Down in the sewer - one of all time favourite songs… and performed here proves why Hugh was the heart and soul of The Stranglers. What a genius of a man!
A PERFECT example of how great songs can work stripped down if the storyteller and his band are brilliant. Very good indeed 🖤 x
I saw him do Duchess stripped to just the guitar, and Nuclear Device. Was nice, not so much sleazy.
Not really. That's probably how the song was written, before keyboards and production.
Love the horn in Bearcage
Fantastic set! [ALL OF IT) CAZ is amazing on the bass, Chris is amazing on the skins! Hugh is at his very best as a solo artist here! The Stranglers stuff is amazing! Cheers dx
Much love to you! x
Hugh Cornwall Sinny Australia may 9 2019,Hugh will be 70 in August 2019
Caz....your as good as JjB tooxxx
I’m pretty sure I watch this video every night! That three people alone can create this fabulous sound is amazing. The drummer is the best I’ve seen, the bass player is the coolest, sexiest bass player (and so brilliantly capable) , and … Hugh - a phenomenal vocalist, songwriter and guitarist - and what a thoroughly lovely bloke. When I see him here in Sydney on 1 August, my one hope is that he plays Down in the Sewer: one of my favourites of all time.
I used to be walk 20 minutes home in my lunch hour (circa 1985) to play Down in on the Sewer on my stereo before heading back to work. This is the greatest concert I never went to. I can’t stop playing it. Looking forward to seeing Hugh perform here in Sydney in August. My life will be complete if he plays DITS!
Sorry, not having the keyboards of David Greenfield, is such a void. Love the band, hate Hugh left, life continues. Golden Brown, Skin Deep, Nice in Nice, No More Heroes. Not complete without including keyboards. Shoot me, hate me, I just love their music. I will never stop listening. Slowly, all members of bands we listened to in our childhood will perish, a loss we will all succumb to, none of us get out of here alive. Let their music live on.
Excellent concert mister Hugh ! Quel trio, avec Caz Campbell et Chris Bell !
Good stuff i must admit ._._.Great bass..._._loved the old stranglers back in the day,
Very brave to try Stranglers songs without Dave Greenfield but I have to say they pulled it off somehow and put on a stunning gig here.
Can hear the keyboards faintly in the back of my mind dave never to far away
Great bass playing
Thanks! x
I just stumbled on this. This rocks! Awesome!
I saw this particular outfit in 2007 in Wolverhampton. Great gig. I got me some speed and I was doing fine. Hugh signed my then girlfiends boobs. I still have the photos of us having a beer together. Shame he seems to have lost his zen these days. I would have crawled over molten lava to watch him. But Hugh, thank you for the memories. You were the best.
Zen? He has come out of the wilderness... The gigs keep coming (not that I can get there 🙄) as do the songs. Only wish I could crawl through the magma to see him in the flesh! 🌏
Unbelievable. So good. The gal on bass was playing those parts with such precision and confidence. Her vibe is appealing and mesmerizing. A killer three piece. There were times when it sounded like there were two guitar players. Not only is Hugh a world class singer with an epic recognizable voice, but he's an amazing guitar player and songwriter.
It was a collection of special elements that made the Stranglers the Stranglers with that sound, but a huge part of that was Hugh's voice and his guitar parts. Yes, Greenfields sounds and dissonant rhythms were a huge factor, but this is proof that these songs that we just heard are strong enough to stand on their own played with just that three piece. Different yes, but still amazing. It was also a really dynamic flow to the whole show. The magic was definitely there.
my best friend at school was named Chris Bell, i bought my first stranglers album (no more heroes) from him. But that was up north, not likely the same Chris
fantastic
Hey Caz you are a great musician, Nice to see Something diferent from the Black metal stuff 😁 You Rock 🤘🏻
THANKS! XX
Absolutely brilliantly fantastically good stuff
Can't get enough of this gig, I'm definitely helping with your view count. Great audio and a top performance. Hugh is a legend, Caz on bass and Chris on drums are tight in this show, some nice brass to complement some of the songs and lovely melodies.
Hi@Allison Holmes, funny looking "Steve" on bass :). At 41m35s Hugh introduces them as "Caz Campbell on the bass and Chris Bell on the drums".
FANTASTIC 😀
Hanging around bloody love that intro 🎸
Hugh is an iconic figure, but it is so sad to listen to these GREAT songs without the Greenfield keyboards! They sound... sad! On the other hand, the young lady saves it because she is great on the "Stranglers" bass! What a pity, this band to be in different places, some together, some solo, like Hugh and most of all with Dave, dead... I really miss my youth! They were my heroes!
Bonsoir. Vive. Hugh Cornwall. Le. Meilleures
Blew my mind !!!
Caz campbell brilliant
Thank you my friend! X!
Great video thoroughly enjoyed the concert Hugh definitely as still got that original sound great band too thanks for posting and sharing this
Great job without keyboards. Ace 3 piece.
This was really good ! actually better than the current Stranglers shows. Works well too with out the key boards even if I'd prefer to have them. And that's one badass bassist there, she's got it down !
i'd have to agree on what i heard from the Stranglers since he left. I like 'water' from the latest album and a few Norfolk Coast songs but that's it
Amazing performance !!!!!!great
I actually like the more mellowed versions of classic stranglers tracks. Works nicely for me! 👍👍👍
Caz Campbell mwahhh
The creator is in total control of his outstanding material.
Bear cage is sumhing special
Wow, Great video. thankyou
Hugh was wonderfull, if JJ stay the better bassiste of the World! This woman IS fantastic. Bravo tous les trois!

It's very admirable the way HC plays every Stranglers song, but particularly Down in the Sewer, the arangements are top
Sure is, it is a brave decision to play that song without the keyboard section, i never thought i would hear that happen, comes out sounding good though, good job by all
Caz is great. Just wish that the tempo was a tad slower on few good ol' Stranglers songs.
I'm in love with caz
Love this
love you forever Hugh
Great writing ❤
Completely on fire.
Nothing in the world better than a female guitarist/bass player ❤
❤Hugh is a Genius ❤
Hi
Saw you in Brighton at the Komedia with the same line up and enjoyed it so much ! Great versions of all the marvellous oldies from a kicking band.
Not easy to replace JJ! I cry Dave!
Awesome.
he has better musicians now, certainly the bass is better by far and Hugh has become more free form and spontaneous now, a great 3piece set up with crisp clean sound, solid bass & drums, wow!! Hugh is /was the driving heart, the John Lennon of the stranglers I always felt
Bassiste❤❤❤😍😘
Love you too! :)
Love to Washwells! X nabnour spring cottage!
great concert'
That chick is killing it on bass😮
You made my day! Thankyou! xxx
So did you❤ from Holland
Always the SUN !!!
Down in the sewer ,,,classs
I love their German headbopping dance at the start of Nice N Sleezy! 😅😂
Great stuff!
First time I have seen/heard a post - Stranglers performance by Hugh Cornwell. Has he been in hiding , under wraps , or what? As this was in 1993 , I note that he relied on a lot of Stranglers era material. 31years later , is he still active performing, writing ,etc ?
He still has that original Strangler's voice, that's the best part. In fact, Hugh got better skill in his guitar playing.
Ganz Groß! Thanx fürs hochladen!!
voor Dave; bedankt veur dit giga toetsen, man; lUCAS 24
Wow! That was great! 👍
I am the only person in the world who loves walk on by , by Dionne Warwick , D Train (1982) and the Stranglers!
Not true...me too🍻
I love you brother!

Had the pleasure of seeing Hugh et al on this tour - minus the trumpet. Met Catherine at the bar and she looked very tired. Best Dan Smith, The Charlotte, Leicester.
Thanks Dan. :) It's Caroline! I was probably pissed. Loved The Charlotte! xx
@@cazcampbell5272 It's gone now and there's an estate agent there. Real shame. Keep playing - you rock. Best
