    I've been on the spaceship since I was 11 in 1972. My big brother introduced me to them and I haven't looked back.
    Hawkwind is still going strong, producing, recording and gigging. Dave Brock is 82 now but still the captain.
    Loads of people mock Hawkwind but fans have enjoyed the ongoing journey. Their music has influenced many genres.
    As a sidenote, Lemmy wrote the song Motorhead for Hawkwind while he was with them.

    Oh yes! That album was the world's introduction to accidental bass player Lemmy. He rocked up expecting to fill in on guitar after Huw Lloyd Langton took a few trips too many, but Dave Brock decided he'd play lead so, as Dave Anderson had failed to turn up, they now needed a bass player. They stuck a bass in his hand, told him to "just make some noise in E" and he made up his distinctive sound on the spot. Classic! The last track on the album, not counting CD reissue bonuses, was "The Watcher" by one Ian Kilmister, which Lemmy took with him when he formed Motorhead, so like the track "Motorhead" itself, you get a very different version when Hawkwind do it. Well worth checking out, as is the whole album as Alex says. Absolute banger gents, good pick.

      @SteveJ0966 5 місяців тому

      @@TheThamesmen I don't think I'd clocked Peel's contribution, what a guy. Not even having come up with any songs on their first gig, nor a name, calling themselves 'Group X' they debuted with 'an extended 20-minute jam on the Byrds' "Eight Miles High"', and that was what hooked Peel. Hah! What a time to be alive.

Often find myself inadvertently ripping them (& Gong & Moonkyte & Garcia etc) when noodling mindlessly on guitar. The sprog and I used to sing 30+ minute versions of Orgone Accumulator, Hurry On Sundown, You Shouldn't Do That, Children Of The Sun, etc, with new lyrics, when we were on long drives. I'm a day late, but as they say, better late than never.
    I think that might be the third or fourth Hawkwind song I have ever heard, but I think it's the best one so far. There seemed to be so many musical influences and flavors in that track it was hard to keep up with them. George did a mighty job listing most of them, however, I think he missed one tantalizing flavor. I got aural flashes of South Asian, particularly Indian, styled guitar. It wasn't all pervasive, but I feel the song was enriched by its sparing use. This was a fantastic track.
    So, for the zesty Indian flavor in the instrumentation, I reckon this Banger could be compared to a complex and spicy curried sausage.
