Holding onto the kitchen counter top also works
Good idea!
Yep. That's what I do!
What I do also.
thankyou x
Exactly what I've been doing for the past two years since I was diagnosed with osteoporosis.
I think putting the front of the chair against the wall would be safer and keep it from sliding forward.
Very good idea. Thank you.
He did say use a “heavy chair.”
Yes, great idea
He said to use a heavy chair. Yes, against a wall is a good idea.
Thanks!
I have used many of his exercises that are on UA-cam to help with my balance. I’m in my 80s and I realize the awful things that could happen to me now if I were to fall..
Because I have used his exercises over the last month I do see an improvement over my balance .
Give him a try he won’t regret it .
Great advice Ginger, I’m afraid once I start falling I could be looking at a nursing home.🤔 I want to stay independent, and stay at home as long as I can. I’m already pretty strong in the legs, but there’s always room for improvement. I’m going to do these exercises, along with other strength training exercises. 😉 I’m 77, and watching from down under Australia 🇦🇺 🐨
I am 63 years old I need leg strength I don't like weak legs. I'm glad to come across your channel.
I'm 61 years love doing exercise have Osteo Arthritis thank u 4 u healthy advice Shireen South Africa
i will give it a try, been in pain and weak hips and leg muscles for a year, always searching for something to help, thanks
As a 71 year old who recently tripped, couldn't recover my balance, and fell, I will definitely give this a try!
I hope you’re ok? It really shakes you up when you fall. I’m only in my 50’s and when I fell over my cat it scared the wotsit out of me
@@MoonSpinnersHa, apparently cats are trying to kill us! I left a delivery box for my own 3 to play with, and that's what snagged me in the dark! I knocked the wind out of myself when I landed and think I probably rebroke the same wrist I broke many moons ago that was "fixed" with plates and screws. It was painful and swollen but because I had so many problems, pain, and disability after that ugly surgery, I opted to put on a wrist brace and let nature takes its course... it certainly couldn't do any worse!
@@CharGC123 ..oh my goodness, that’s a painful fall, I hope your wrist gets better soon, if it gets worse, please see someone if you’re able to. I’ve only got one cat, but he was lurking in the dark right in the doorway to the kitchen and I went flying (so did he) I laid spread eagled on the floor for what seemed like hours, but it was only 10 minutes 😂 I thought for sure I’d broken every bone in the front part of my body. As I was laying there, all I could think about was, “blimey, this floor could do with a hoover” 🤣🤣
@@MoonSpinnersThanks, it is slowly getting better... unlike last time! It took me a while to get off the floor too, no mean feat in the best of circumstances! You made me laugh with your observation while laying there, too funny! Glad you're okay!
@@CharGC123 …we’re tough as old boots, it’s not our time to shuffle off the mortal coil yet 😂👍
I have been going to the gym and found that I am weak in my hamstrings and glutes. This looks like a good exercise. Thank you! 😊
You're so welcome!
This is a great exercise to add to one's daily routine. Every little bit counts, and strengthening these basic muscles will support us in everyday life.
Thank you! I just had a hip replacement 5 days ago. When I'm able I will do this!!!
This is Exactly where I feel tightening and sometimes experience loss of balance on my left (stroke effected) leg, now 20+ years post stroke. I had recently retired from a 15 year sitting 8 hrs a day job. And now strength training and walking an hour a day to correct. Upon waking the next day, tightness to the outer left side of left leg nags me, so on alternate days, plan to reintroduce Egoscue Painfree ( cd found on Amazon still) Method floor stretching to help. Closest thing I found that uses many exercises I remember from physical therapists in Stroke Rehab. Good especially for desk job jockey’s and over 50 crowd for reawakening your joints.❤
Thank you for this video. So need this. Also precise & to the point.
Thank you. Just what I needed❤
Thanks so much. It's perfect excercise . Knees too❤
Definitely going to try this!
An exercise to try! 76 yr old, saying, thank you!

Thanks 👊🏼👍🏼
Good tip
I will definitely try this as I have sciatica pain for 2 weeks now all the way up to my lower back. No fun.
If that doesn’t work, try an inversion table. It cured my sciatica
धन्यवाद जी
Hope it works thank you🥰💚💛Oregon
That will stress my lower back which also has a lot of pain. But I'll give it a try.
I recommend to go very slow. It should help the lower back as well, in combination with some others. So much help on youtube. 💝 Gently easing into a stretch or anything I find I get a lot more out of it. Forcing anything typically causes injury and longer setbacks.
Diet plays a huge role in our wellth also. I recommend The Weston A Price Foundation’s website for a lot of great info.
My medius/minimus on the right side have had 2 surgical attempts to reattach to the bone, and the left medius has atrophied and minimus is tearing. I wonder if this will still be beneficial!!. Cheers Rosemary Western Australia 73yrs 😅
Plse some easy exercises for degenerative osteoarthosis in right knee. It is very painful. I started fisio last Friday ( today is Sunday, May 12. ) I am 81, yrs old. I live alone and try to walk my small dog every day in flat parks with trees. There are some benches for resting…😊
These look like good exercises. How do you keep the chair from sliding out from under you? I can see that happening in some situations. Thank you for sharing. Blessings.
My chair was slipping too so I started using the kitchen counter.
To clarify, are you saying the goal is to do every single day, 60 - 5 second extensions (20 x 5 seconds x 3)?
Thank you Sir ❤
What if you have knee arthritis??
I've been doing Bird Dog Planks holding edge of bed for instability
Should I do this having one an over twenty old hip replacement ?
My hips feel like they are locked.....after back surgery..hard to walk....hope this helps
Can you do this or should you do this with double hip replacements??
Does doing this while laying on my stomach on the floor accomplish the same thing? I lift each leg about 3 inches off the ground.
Do you have any exercises (standing or sitting--not on the floor) for hamstring muscles. I am doing this exercise but my hamstrings want to cramp and that hurts.
My hip bone is broken sliping from home stairs.. How can you help me
Should the right leg be straight when the left one is lifted and vice versa-or should the knee of the balancing leg be soft or even slightly bent? My concern is that ‘locking’ the knee could cause injury.
Yes, slightly bent!
I watch him do the exercise and I think that chair could tip over.
🙏🙏🙏
😀
When do you inhale? I missed that.
Hello, you should stay somewhat exhaled as you do the exercise. The concept is that to tighten your core, you have to engage your pelvic floor and abdominal muscles. One way to do this is to remain slightly exhaled as you perform the exercise, just breathing with a shallow patern.
🙏👍😊
How about the kitchen counter?
Yes! That works
👍👍😋
Hey, I improved my leg strength w/ 1 simple exercise, too---I kicked my husband out!
And I thought the source of sciatic pain was a herniated lumbar disk pressing against a spinal nerve.
It is, but there is another source, piriformis syndrome. It’s deep in the butt.
Can be due to the hip joint coming out of the girdle and compressing the sciatic nerve I had it due to my occupation and the osteopath cured it within the first 2 sessions.
Is the Dr answering questions?
@@deloresquestell5237 Dr. Who?
That is often the source of the muscle weakness, but piriforis syndrom is a result of weakness. Sciatica can occur in anyone, even without disc herniation, if they simply overuse their pirifomris muscle. If you stand and lean forward too long, you will have sciaitc pain.
A video with only a guy talking - why would he have a picture of a woman there . Was kinda confused when I clicked on it
Thank you
