I use CapCut (free version) to edit my videos, no need to pay for premium; I think the free version already has a lot of good features - for subtitles, I use the text tool and add a rounded rectangle background to the text in black, and lower the opacity/transparency so it’s more like a gray background behind my white text - hope that helps (:
