I love the way Matt arrives at the vehicle- always parked in the same spot and then stays in his car, reversing back and forth, like scoping his prey. He daren’t get out until he’s checked ‘all is clear’ on Car Vertical, then he gingerly gets out to inspect it further. It’s like a modern day auto dealer version of a Stone Age hunter, stalking its prey…..😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
😂😂
bahahahahaha 😂
Thatssssssssssssss..........................not strictly True 🤔🤔🤔
He would park Emm................. on bay 13
Then i commented 🤭 this is not gonna end Well 🤣🤣🤣
Watch, he does 12 and 14
🤫🤫🤫🤫🤫🤫🤫
Every time I hear "Jimmy the magician" I imagine a guy in a sharp suit with a hat, in a smokey office decked out in wood conducting "need to know basis" business above a snooker club!!
LOL😂😂😂😂
Haha sounds like a guy Richie film
It's just a guy who does body shop work, usually just normal working class lads 😅
😅😅
Does Jimmy The Magician have a UA-cam channel?
Every single video makes me want that specific vehicle no matter how much of a dog it is! I'm a total sucker for a rescue! 😌
Haha me too
Heheh...my next stop after a high peak vid is always autotrader
Me too 👍🏻
These mark 1 Touaregs are fantastic, over-engineered tanks. Proper 4x4 off roaders with locking diffs. Show me a 2003 Range Rover with that amount of minimal problems after fairly scant service history! This tank will still be on the road after many Range & Land Rovers are on the scrap heap. From the video, the engine seems like a peach, still pulling like a train. Great car.
@@tadantoniak7121Really though a Trabant would outlast the average Range Rover. 😂
As a car dealer, not financially viable for you to do Matt, but for what you're asking for it, that's going to be a lot of car for a competent DIY'er, or someone who really wants a proper high end car and is not worried about it's final value.
We paid just over market value for our daily, and then spent almost the same getting it to the standard we wanted.
Never going to be worth anywhere near what we've spent on it, but we know we have a good reliable car
😁
Hi Matt, Welcome back. I missed you so much. - Your friend, the Wonder Grip Van
😂🤣😂👍 love the humour 👌😉🙏
The Wonder Grip van is an existential thing which only exists upon viewing....
The Wonder Grip van has Landsails all round, and is proud of it.
@@mattridgley9095 👌🤣😂🤣😉
The Wonder Grip van could do with a bit of a buff.
It's mad that cars like this will only have a year or two of life due to excessive tax and low value. The government should be encouraging us to keep these cars on the road as the vast majority of their environmental damage has been done in it's manufacture. More cars like this on the road make more work for local non-franshised garages to do servicing and repairs too.
Well done HPA for keeping these cars going!
Disagree about the colour. It looks great in that deep Ruby red. Lovely motor this one!
The colour was the perfect match for his sunburn in the second half of the video!
I had the exact same car. Same year, spec, engine, etc but it was in silver. I nicknamed it "Chernobyl" because I had never seen so many warning lights in such a small amount of space. I traded it in for a suzuki grand vitara 2.4
😂😂😂😂 ka boom
So was your experience off the car the usual vw headache?or just annoying warning lights sensors etc
As I've always wanted the toureag, previously owned mercs and bmws mercs are great with reliability bmws light up like Xmas trees currently drive a 1.6 golf thsts nothing special but reliability is amazing
@ski.slime.go.slatty Engine management light was on, off ,on,off microswitches failed on tailgate and tailgate window (opens seperately) so had to open boot via a chord inside the boot by climbing Into the rear of the car. Prop shaft centre bearing went so new propshaft was needed. Passenger front window regulator went so I had to jam the window shut. I got the engine management light diagnosed and it was a timing issue. All this on a 50 odd thousand mile car with a full service history. I didn't want to sell it anyone with all these issues so I traded it in at a ford garage that had a suzuki grand vitiara that was a great car. I was honest about the condition of the Touareg and they just put it into auction
Uuuu that water leak at the back of the engine means engine out to fix it , back in the states at VW I did so many of these horrible v6 , they are not horrible to work on if you have the VW engine removal table and specific tools for it but otherwise it will be a nightmare , they love to overheat and also the bolt on the oil pump sprocket backs out and comes out through the aluminum timing cover , in late 2007 engines that was revised but this early one still have that problem, whomever buys this thing buys a time bomb
I once had to take the engine out of a Touareg V10 TDI just to change a lambda sensor! Luckily it was at a dealership so had the right tools.
Sign of the times when "Low road tax" is £395 a year for a 21 year old car, another example of a gov rip off. Lol.
Great content as always Matt 👍🏼
I pay 1495 in ireland for my eclass😢
Road Tax (or VED) for this is £735 a year - CO₂ emissions are 331 g/km.
Another Landsail! GET IN! I had no idea so many cheap tyre brands existed before watching your videos Matt. Thank you, it’s been educational.
Happy to help!
They're all just brands of the Chinese tyre conglomerate Dytchfinda
🤣Landsail come 48 or 49 in the quality list of tyres. @@Anrirua
Right?????
I once bought a Volvo with landsails on the front. It understeered like a pig. Night and day difference when I put a set of Goodyears on it.
This is gorgeous color. Much better than the bland silver and black imho.
PS: Its the VR6. Just VW doing shenanigans in the early 00s. Same as the V5 badge, when its in fact a VR5.
still technically a vee configuration
@@djfld2394 No its more similar to an inline engine as it has the same firing order and one cylinder head
Have to say, I love this colour
This one is a normal V6, the 3.6 is a VR6
Only just saw it was a 3.6 so indeed a vr6, earlier he was talking about a 3.2 which isnt
My wife had a 2013 Touareg 3.0 petrol. Wasn’t the most reliable but the whole family absolutely loved it and it was also surprisingly capable offroad. When you love a car the repair bills don’t matter so much (just as well I now love my Range Rover really..)
I was given one by a friend who was leaving the country. The engine was awesome and sounded great. The brakes were extremely variable and you could have lock or nothing or be fine, it made driving it very interesting. Also it was an automatic and the gear changes were again variable, it would either change up very early or very very late, and the suspension was dodgy. I sold it to my then boss and he got it sorted and loved it way past the time he made me redundant
20:34 part worn tires of a decent brand are still much better than brand new Landsails.
Just found your channel last week, and have binge watched all of your “I bought a cheap….” They’re great, I think I’m addicted. Wheeler Dealers is over, Mike Brewer who😂😂😂 Keep them coming Matt👊🏻
Glad you like them!
11:56 Trebor = Robert backwards, the guy who created it 😉
Instead of coming he went
17:05 They also made a W12 model that was limited to just 500 units
Matt, don’t know if anyone else has commented this, at that mileage make sure the chain tensioners have been done. I have the same engine in a 2014 Superb. It is a massive job, that if it hasn’t been done it might not be worth keeping.
This is a great buy it will be cheap to get it in good shape without over spending. And Jimmy is an respectabele person.
Matts got it on his website now for £2K
Surely worth a pop for that money me thinks 👍👍
Been eyeing this car for a while. Thanks for the vid.
So much car for so little ,but as we know the bits can be pricey, glad you enjoyed your days in the sun!
My dad was a motortrader, so i grew up around cars and auctions, interesting to see your take on things
just love youre vid matt keep them coming
Saw the V10 Diesel engine on display at a motor show and it was stunning because it had been cut away to show the internals and operation. It was compact to.
I really like that deep red with chrome accents exterior and it offsets the black interior. As for the list of issues; it's a 22 year old large 4x4 for not a lot of money. For that money anyone has to expect there to be minor issues that will be advised on an MOT.
Oh boy, had to watch this one as I also bought a cheap Volkswagen Touareg V6 a few years ago (that then wound up being not so cheap to fix). Pretty well sorted now and I really do like it. Love driving mine, fuel economy aside.
The passenger side seat heating will only work if it's occupied.
Great car and I am confident there is a market for these cars with honesty behind them like you’ve done here Matt
Lovely colour, I’ve always liked various shades of burgundy. Using your motto of KISS I’m surprised you bought the Tourag but then you’ve got form ! Great video.
With a little driveway tinkering and time this would make an ideal runaround for a few years for someone only real scary issue is the water leak at rear of engine I think it looks quite cool another great video matt as usual 👍
It seems to need a lot spent on it for its next MOT and it struggle to sell due to your honesty and of course it’s not worth you doing the work before hand. A good DIY / mechanic would find this an excellent prospect to fix up and own. It is a great car at a bargain price. Great video as always Matt. 👍
Welcome back from sunny Bermuda, Matt. 🌞🌴
Another great video. Love the engine noise and I do like the colour. It's a bargain and it's a lot of car for the money. And you didn't massively overspend, which if I had it I would have done. Interesting idea for partworns. I had thought not getting all weathwrs once my current set need replacing and I wonder if this would be the way forward.
Another entertaining vid. Thanks. Never seen switches wear as bad as these; they really let down an otherwise nice interior. Regarding part-worn tyres, every secondhand car you buy, unless you replace the tyres with new ones, has part-worn tyres too! So not necessary a bad thing. And, a part-worn Goodyear (or other good brand tyre) will always be better than a brand new budget tyre,
Very interesting and well presented as always. Have a nice day👍
Love the honesty.
Love these cheap car videos, glad you didn't massively overspend on this one! It's a lot of car for the money
there is a holy grail offroad version of this the 4.2 petrol with rear locking diffs which are really rare, there is also a 5.0 tdi which can tow mountains
As always, a great video. Great work and I'm looking forward to the next videos :-)
A great car in and of itself. Here in Germany, even in poor condition, they sell for at least 4,500 euros.
At least I haven't seen one for less than this price.
Alright Matt, how’s it going? Welcome back!
Thats a lot of advisories! We are looking for a disco replacement and I will try to get my wife to like these! Good 'tube as usual.
I think it's about time you did a walk round check on that Bloody "Wonder Grip" van! 👍
I love those pull-across parcel shelves. When I go away to Cornwall with my Mum we hire a Skoda Octavia each time we go and they have them. Mind you for our upcoming trip she may have to drive a hybrid Toyota Auris.
Can’t beat. Cheap and Meaty and again super video Matt 👌👌👍👍
This is quite a good looking car, and I’m good condition for its age, although I do prefer the newer generation model.
You’ve given someone the chance of an affordable prestige runaround there Matt❤.
Wise decisions throughout there Matt, I've bought many a vehicle over the last 40 years and weighed up what should be spent and what shouldn't, cheapest car I bought was a celica in 1995 which cost me 60 quid (I was a 'mature' student and very poor) then used it for a year having spent £2.50 on it, selling it for 330 quid, resourceful student was I 🤓
Matt it looks Nice including the colour, I like it 👍🏾
£800 for four tyres, i've found some nationwide for budget to mid range for £60-£75.
He has to buy good quality or decent quality stuff, otherwise his customer might come back soon for a blowout or something else
@@MrDamburgerI’m with you on that, but some midrange should be good enough
Our is abandoned. Had to buy 4 tyres, bought a set of Bridgestone Dueler. Better than the old Pirelli’s.
He say he buy 4 good used tires for 250£, not 800$.
It's 25 years since I bought a tyre for 80 quid. Obviously now, for that price all you're going get are no brand ditch finders, cheap tyres are never cheerful.
This is exactly the kind of content I love! You take a risk on a cheap car and show us the whole process, from the initial excitement to the mechanic's report. The VR6 sounds amazing, and for £1500, this Touareg seems like a total steal, even with the needed repairs. Good luck selling it!
I recently had a chance to try the same gen 3.0 V6 TDI and it was a really pleasant drive, must admit. It worked fine offroad too. That generation, for its price, is definitely worth buying, unless totally banged up.
there's two buttons behind the steering wheel.
one is to turn on and off the lighting on the steering wheel, and the other is for the heated steering wheel.
I saw one of these the other day and they have aged really well.
Another good video Matt ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏
Thats such a nice color and mint condition Touareg! Here theyre all sruffy and dusty and worn out!
Great video, buy and work as usual Matt! :D
Great video and content, and a great purchase. The colour of the car is better than black, silver or white. Could we see a challenge between you and the guys in the previous video, like buying a car for £1000 car and go somewhere in Europe with them.
That sunburn looked painful, fair play for toning it down by lurking in the shadows 😆
Surprised no mention of that prop shaft support centre bearing. The housing is just rubber that perishes. The bearing itself would be OK, but not the rubber around it. TBH, even if you spent another grand or two, you're not going to get that kind of car for less than 4-5 grand.
I worked with a guy who scoffed at me buying part worn tyres. He said "I would never buy part worn tyres" I said "Have you ever bought a 2nd hand car?" He said "Yes". I said there you go then, you have bought part worn tyres."
Very thorough mechanic you've got there Matt 23:50
Hi Matt hope you enjoyed your break to Bermuda . Love the colour of the car clean paint work you will have to get out your nail varnish kit to touch in all those worn switches . Then it will look even better .
Thanks
Me watching this video when Matt says "£1500...how is that possible" I WANT THIS
Me reading the combined Mpg on Matt's website advert MATT CAN KEEP THIS
Just bought a second hand 5 series from BMW after doing a “full Matt” on an equivalent at a local garage. Replicated your initial tour checks and parted with “ I’d have to massively overspend to bring it up to scratch “ made me chuckle as I said it 😂cheers Matt . Love the content .
I can’t fully agree unfortunately. To do a ‘full Matt’ you should have done all those things and then bought it. 😉
Reminds me of the ML320 I bought six years ago as a load lugger . I paid £1000 for a 2000 model. It was great apart from fuel consumption and the rear brake calipers sticking (may have made the fuel consumption worse!) I used it for a year and sold it for £600. Cheap fairly luxurious motoring I suppose.
Love the video Matt ... why don't you convert to to a proper off roader for as cheap as possible off ebay etc and do a video taking it off road ? Just an idea mate
Really nice car! Looks as though it has high/low range gearbox as well with centre diff lock when you zoomed in on the centre console. Should be fairly decent offroad.
The salmon-coloured jumper surprisingly compliments the Ruby Red!
Hey Matt, you are not weird! I'm sure a lot of people here share the same interest for those nerdy knowledge about cars, i do at least. 😀
hi Matt this looks a nice little bus that will do someone a turn....👍👍👍
Love these kind of vids Matt, you buy the cars we all want to buy but don’t have the………guts, to buy!
Trust takes years to earn and seconds to lose.......gr8 video Matt
I really like that red colour. It's quite unusual on a Touareg.
My uncle had one of these when i was a kid. Always enjoyed time in it. Much preferred it to the xc90 he had after.
In what ways was it better than xc90?
@@samgrieg2542 if the XC90 was 2015 or older, I believe the Touareg would be just a little bit more comfortable and sporty. Other than that, nothing else, for sure.
@@ogearhead2426 I'd say 2014 or older, 14 was the last year of xc90 P2 platform
@@samgrieg2542 oh! Cheers, mate. Exactly, got confused. Sorry!
Nice 1 Matt..
All tyres on a previously owned car are likely to be part worn, I guess. At least you & the fitter can give them a good check over before fitting.
Here in Ireland my uncle has a tourag with 900k miles...very impressive 🇮🇪
Love the videos Matt, i really enjoy them.
Glad you like them!
That pink top is really cool!
I had a 2009…the ONLY issue I ever had was the headliner, and that was after it was 12 years old. It cost a pretty penny to fix that, but good as new after!
Hi Matt. I had one of these, the facelift model. The heated steering is buried away in the infotainment menu and was such a pain to find you never bothered. No good old fashioned button.
I thought it would have a heated wheel. It seemed to good of a spec not have it.
Thanks!
Those paddles are a retrofit. Kinda cool to see. Not the easiest retrofit in the world.
😂😂just love these Video's, Brilliant
Well looked after car, at least cosmetically, but typical VAG they become too expensive to repair as they age
Welcome back Matt ,you look well 😊
Thanks! 😃
Saw your Touareg AD in Autotrader, in short, I can say yours should be the best package and reliable old Touareg in the whole market. Especially you can be trusted, and all service and work and clean done before selling, as always.
It is 2.5 grand.
But it is:
- Automatic
- Nice sound Vr6
- All-wheel drive
What do you need more?
The r4.2 V6 TDi is a great engine and surprisingly good on fuel for such a lump of a car. Plenty of torque and speed.
Since the last video when this was mentioned. I have been waiting 😅❤
Finally matt. A great car, from very cheap buying. 👌😇👍😉shame about the smokers usage 🤢🤮and unloved again with all the worn buttons. Why don’t people look after their cars?
I am currently running a facelift 2009 3.6 VR6 Touareg. Loving it. If you do your homework properly and have a trustworthy and knowledgeable mechanic, then you will be OK.
There is SO much space between the wheel and the arches!! And the switch gear with half the writing rubbed off would drive me nuts
Liked for the Stealers Wheel reference (although I also just liked the video)
I had the W12 Touareg 6.0 back when I was in Dubai
Scored a bargain there matt very well done best wishes from Jay @ a VW dealership 👍
Thanks 👍
Cheapies with big engines, we're two of a kind! Always liked those toe rags.
That engine is a gem.... Nice... This time you win😊
If you are in the market for a cheap SUV, then buy an RX400. It will cost more upfront but trust me, you will save in the long run!
(Disclaimer - I am an old lexus fanboy, so this statement may be inaccurate and biased 😅)
Individual experience can be so different. I had a second hand 2008 TDI V6 - great car, no issues, had it for 4 years and was so impressed I bought… a new one of the same (but at a deep discount via a broker for just £40k) in 2015. Never a problem in 7 years and 60k miles and got £20k on trade in against a Volvo XC60. Miss the sheer grunt of that big diesel though.
Darkside developments drive the V10 tdi's they have them set-up for off roading. Worth watching these lads tackling the back roads in Wales..
Ok. Let's see how this pans out. That's a large complex car at a very cheap price.
