Cut it off
Boss it up
Cut it it off
Boss it up
    I’ll let you decide
Baby I do it like this now
    Set it all on fire
    Workin’ day by day
Kappa girl, I got my own back
Cut it off
Boss it up
Cut it it off

I’ll meet you on the flip side, flip side
Overloaded pocket, I spend it how I like it
I got my own back, yeah
    I know you’re watching me
    Go up, ain’t no stoppin’
    Baby imma start
    Set it all on fire
Ain’t gon do what you wish now,

I would like to explain alittle about the cutural bacground to our foreign friends
The purpose of this song (seems to me)is to encourage women to get rid of the shackles of society and fixed minds of the public, to make their own decisions.
Raising the Red Lantern is a film by Zhang Yimou, in which tragic lives of oppressed women under polygamy in feudal society were potraited.
Modern society has become so much better but social development has always been coherent. So far, there are still visable inequalities between men and women and cultural oppression.
Cut it off (
Qipao as a classical dress is a symbolic representation of conservative women)
I like in the opening Lexie sits in the seat of honor. The seating order is extremely important in the Chinese table manners. The order is based on seniority and organizational hierarchy, basically the most important person (senior or in power)should sit in the middle facing the entrance, it's quite rare to see a young lady there in any dinner, at least I've never seen that in my experience.
    Anyways, great song, great purpose.
    Proud of CSC.

my name is jia (佳), and this song speaks to me so much, my mum told me once my name means the obedience of a traditional woman, lexie's play on words as 'jia ren' or family person rlly serves as a reminder of how the female role in china is seen as an obedient family caretaker, its so rare to see chinese feminism and lexie liu never disappoints

@@lanhuong4883 The qipao, a stunning and distinctive garment, was a symbol of femininity and elegance for women in China during the Qing Dynasty. This era, being the last feudal dynasty in China, witnessed a strict adherence to traditional values and conservative social norms, which often led to the oppression and discrimination of women. In this context, the qipao, with its tight-fitting and conservative design, aptly served as a physical manifestation of the limitations and constraints placed on women by the conservative forces in the feudal society.

To anyone who wonders the meaning, this song Lexie expresses that the female's destiny is dominated by herself. No more miserable destiny or constraints should be set up for women, like the one in the film Raise the Red Lantern (just in my understanding). Lexie declares her determination to fight against the traditional thought of how a woman should live. In the bridge, she also redefines what is traditionally called as beauty (佳人jiaren) in Chinese, quoting one line from the Chinese poetry "North has beauty, unique and independent"

Lexie Liu was studying in an international school in China. As a rapper, she is the best person of mixing Chinese and English in her lyrics in China for now in my opinion. As for composing, most of her songs are cyberpunk, and some even called hers future music or modern music. Her style is so fantastic that it makes her very popular in young generation in China, however, this makes her harder to become more popular among those people who can't understand English very well. I hope she could write some songs only in one language to make her more popular. Her music and she really deserve it. BTW, she has another very popular song "Mulan" in another channel (ua-cam.com/video/FPkg6QnpOYQ/v-deo.html). I think her Mulan song is the best of all Mulan-related ones.

raise the red lantern is a Chinese movie that tells the story of a man and four women in ancient China. The man lives with his 4 wife. When he wants to sleep with a wife, he hangs a big lantern on the door of that wife's room. The big red lantern hangs high symbolizes the inequality between men and women in ancient China. This song is not just a Chinese r&b. In fact, the lyrics are worth to thinking about, which is why I like lexie

Even though she is quoting Chinese classical pharases, Lexie is saying, which needs no further explanation of course, that Chinese women should reject being constrained by both Chinese AND Western gazes--Zhang Yimou's movie Raise the Red Lantern being a prime example of the combination of the two. On the one hand, there is the backwardness of traditional Chinese societies and the suffering of women in it, i.e. the harem in the movie. On the other hand, the color of red and the image of Cheongsam, nicely captured by the setting of the MV, speak to the exoticism of Asian women in the Western eyes. Kudos to her.

    • @allenna7314

Your point made for the Western exoticism part is pretty vague and weak overall. Not saying that it doesn't exist irl , but in terms of the mv, it just feels like you made up the thesis and couldn't find adequate support to back it up. "Qipao" and "red" really do not say much about the refusing the Western gaze.

    • @lairely

    • @allenna7314
      @allenna7314 3 роки тому +8

You might have a nice idea but your evidence isn't enough support it. It's not a sophisticated point, I agree. It's overly vague. "The color of red and image of Cheongsam" speak to the exoticism? Maybe it does, but how? I might not be able to see as deep as you since you think it doesn't even need any further explanation.
"Qipao, cut it off" seems more like a break away from the traditional Chinese woman, which you also agree with. Not sure how you are extrapolating so much from it. Very imaginative.

She's too underrated, and Seraphine being hated by the Koreans, just because Seraphine sang in Mandarin in K/DA, MORE for NOT at least a minute just because what China has done to Korea and etc. (I don't know the history between them.) It just sad that they're bringing up politics in a video game music video. Big cringe

@@kevinnguyen8631 But what has lexie liu done? She just featured in this song. Just because she is Chinese so she deserves all the hates from those irrational people? Almost everyone enjoyed the music, but people like them stirred hatred and left racist comments. This is so disappointing. I understand China and South Korea have different positions, but I would never ever write racist and hating comments just because I don't like a country. And the reasons you have listed neither are the reasons they spread hatred towards innocent people nor justify their behaviors. China has its own position as well. From what I have seen is that they are being racists. And what makes me feel worse is that she is Chinese and it is China so racist things are acceptable for many people.

really like her part 大红灯笼高高挂 , make me remind of Raise the Red Lantern of Zhangyimao, that film is quite creepy and haunted me for a long time since I watched it, never know one day it will become a line in a rap song. You go girl, i think women rappers in chinese deserve a recognition, you guys have a lot of cultural material can mix with modern music
