As someone who used to surf regularly in Florida I can tell you there are unwritten rules. So I'll write them; 1) First one out is first one up. Which means whoever is waiting the longest gets priority on the wave. 2) If you go down go back. That means if you fall off the wave, make room for other people. 3) When you ride together you ride apart. This one means you don't get too close to people even if you're in a group. Otherwise they have every right to push you out of their way to avoid colliding. 4) If someone's in trouble help them. Pretty self explanatory. There are more of course, but these four will generally keep you safe and keep you from being hated.
Never expected surfing to be such a hostile community until going to Hawaii and Australia to watch... They dont want new surfers, unless you have money to give them
I'm a sailer myself but your right even on the broads I've seen boats and fisherman get too close to other boats and jet skis and paddle surfers etc it's rediculous
watch it again - first dude saw the guy in front of him was about to run over someone in the pocket. he pulled his board because the guy was looking at the crest instead of where he was going.
when i was a little kid i was at the beach watching a few dudes surf. i got caught by a wave and was headed right towards this guy. i thought i was toast!!! he bailed so fast and clean, i figured the board would at least knock me good… thank god for his reflexes bc he caught the board too. he wasnt even upset. love surfers lol
I surfed a very crowded beach break yesterday and was easily cruising around foamies and people who didn't look before going. It definitely helps your surfing to learn how to navigate crowds.

It's strange my surfing instructor moved our class away from the crowds and they followed us anyway. He warned us about getting hit by someone on a fiberglass board and sure enough one student got hit.
I learned in first grade how to surf thanks to a little school play which then I always wanted to try it which I self taught myself and I’ve been surfing for four years now and absolutely loved it still not as good as my cousin who may become a pro surfer but I’m happy for him🤙🤙🤙
First time I went surfing I cut my leg on coral and got sunburned so badly it blistered. Standing up and riding waves was awesome, though, lol. Worth it.
My dad's 58 rides a 10 foot fiberglass longboard or 9 ft foam board and I've seen him do all of this. People constantly come up to him and apologize after. Like 😂😂😂😂 (Since he's on a longboard he catches waves way farther out than they can. So the rule is it's his wave if he's on it first. That's why even though he knocks them off they apologize.)
I was surfing in cornwall in this relatively empty beach. Some Ozzy dude is out as well and goes for the same wave as me. I pull out, but he purposefully comes up to bash me as he passes. Most bizarre thing I've ever had happen while surfing. He paddles back out to give me shit for paddling in on 'his' wave. I just say to him "dude... look around you. We're the only two here man. You could be an asshole anywhere else by yourself."
I want to make one of those practice boards… can you make a video showing how you built it and stuff? Or at least tell what materials you used so I can try and make one.
I’m Samoan so I never got problems in Hawaii waters, born and raised in Redondo Beach I never seen people starting fights in the water and finishing it on shore except for Hawaii😂 Aloooooha!
