  • There is a bit of a heart stopping moment when the Leader gets into the fast current and seems to be drifting towards the Fluvius Tavy who is moving in her direction. The Schooner uses all her force to motor into the current and away.

Thanks again for another interesting video. Nice to see the comparison of two ships from different times. Interesting to watch the crewman on the incoming ship loosening the hatch covers in anticipation of a quick offload. 😊

Interesting video, thank you. I was good to see the men and women on Leader and Tavy as it gave added scale to difference in sizes of the ships. Remembering Charlotte Rhodes, and replica sailing ships at Bristol, it absolutely amazes me that anyone would venture off shore never, mind over the horizon, in such small vessels. But without them world history would be vastly different. On a similar scale Tavy would be equally humbled by the Great Lakes thousand footers I regularly watch. So big they can't even leave Lake Superior !!! Hope Paddy wasn't too bored ♥️ 👍👍👍

Hi Robert yes you are right. That current is so strong. There were a few gasps! Paddy had his coat on because it rained of course! Sorry he was moaning in most of the video 😞

That was a fascinating video. My brother has a sailboat at Lydney and has told me about the currents on the River Severn. You captured that perfectly, well done! Must have been a bit harrowing for the crews of both vessels for a few minutes.

Yes even though I’ve seen it many times, I am still super impressed by the skill of the pilots. 😊😊

I have crewed on Leader many times. It is very easy to walk into situations like this, even on small boats like my own, and I embarrassingly struck a pontoon recently for the same reason - not enough sped available to cope with the tide.

Another interesting video. By the way, Class B AIS is a simplified (cheaper) AIS for vessels like yachts which are not required by regulation to have AIS fitted.

Great closeups, thx. This side of the pond, home of the Schooners, we call Leader a Gaff Ketch btw, which she is l belive. Old salt moment.

The leader reminds me very much of an old Brixham trawler.

Just for the record I believe Leader is a gaff ketch, not a schooner.
