    Let me explain - everything.
Let 3 is a band that has been on the Croatian (and Yugoslavian) scene for around 40 years and is famous for its provocative performances. The song is satirical as well as the costumes and the lead singer is dressed as Stalin (not H1itler as I think you thought). It doesn't glorify war, it mocks it as it's an anti-war song.
A man with rockets is Lenin (there is a word play on his forehead that would mean "Lenin") and he holds two missiles in his hands "Lenin 1" and "Lenin 3".
    To clarify the lyrics:
Mom - Russia (mom loved a moron - Russia loved a moron (Putin))
Crocodile psychopath - Crocodile is a well-known street drug in Russia that "turns" people into zombies
Mom I'm going to play - he thinks that war is a game and the world is his toy and he is going to play with it
I know that the lyrics sound weird when translated to English but the meaning of those words is simply lost in translation.
And to clarify, the audience knew what to do because they chose to send them as well as the rest of Croatia, it's not just about the song it's about the message we are sending to the Europe (the message being what we think about dictators and war), they were also the most entertaining group on Dora in the last 20 years.

There is no comment of the vocals from you in the video where the vocals should be the point 🤷‍♂️ the highest note in this song is Bd (A#) sang in chest voice, it is impressive. Especially with the way it was produced. The style to you was more important then the technique & both is. The secondo passagio of the Singer is among the higher ones - and it would be nice if you took time to really talk abut the voice instead of the style. Only that to me is a bit disappointing.

Maybe if they had sung it in English, so people affected by war, especially the children from Ukraine could maybe not understand it. i can't imagine how a child refugee affected by war would feel seeing this and not understanding the words. i think this will go down extremely badly on the night and put croatia in a bad light. • @LasloReber
    @LasloReber Рік тому +187

Dear Georgina! Your reaction is typical for the people who does not speak Croatian language. The song is actually a very strong anti-war song full of symbolism. Let's start with the lyrics. The title "Mama ŠČ" should be written "Mama Щ", this "Щ" is from the Cyrillic alphabet that is used for writing Russian. "Mama" is Mother and symbolizes "Mother Russia". For the line "Mama kupila traktora" (Mother bought a tractor) I found on the Internet two explanations: 1. Belarus is a type/model of tractor produced in Russia, and the line "Mother bought a tractor" means that Russian government "bought" belorussian leader Alexander Lukashenko to help Russia to invade Ukraine. 2. Alexander Lukashenko allegedly send a tractor as a gift to Vladimir Putin for his 70th Birthday. The line "Mama ljubila morona" (Mother loved/kissed a moron) means that the during humans History a lots of Motherlands/Fatherlands loved a so called great leader (in the most recent case - Vladimir Putin), who is actually a moron, a psychopath who starts a war, and the little people unwillingly have to go to fight and die. They also bring other people misery and death. This is also the explanation of the line "Mother, I'm going to war". This leader is a small psychopath because many of dictators were short people. For the phrase "crocodile psychopath" could be used two explanation: 1. The dictator who attacks his neighbor sheds crocodile tears because - in his words - he didn't wanted a war, but he was forced to attack 2. "Crocodile" or "Russian heroine" is a type of synthetic drug called also "the zombie-drug" because the user starts to act like a zombie, feels nothing just like a zombie, and is capable to do terrible things.
Now, the performance and it's symbols. The lead singer is a cartoonish mix of a dictator (officers cap and Stalin-like mustache) and a member of the LGBTQ+ community (colorful dress and heavy makeup) symbolizing tendency of any dictatorship to eliminate everything that is out of the usual expectation of the leader (it's documented that the Nacis outlawed homosexuals and send them to concentration camps to be exterminated, and Putin is also persecutes the members of the LGBTQ+ community). The other members of the band and the background-projection is the mocking of the usual propaganda used by dictators to brainwash the ordinary citizens. And finally the guy dressed in black with the rockets. I read somewhere that he symbolizes Rasputin, a fanatic Russian monk in the early 20th century. On his forehead is a sign "NJINLE" (scrambled "LENJIN", which is the Croatian version of the name of Russian communist leader Vladimir Lenin). My personal view is that it's a symbol of criticism of religious radicalism/fanaticism - not religion, but radicalism and fanaticism. I lived through the period of wars in former Yugoslavia, and I heard on television calls for a holy war. The rockets as the last symbols the be explained have the sign of radiation warning on them, so they are rockets with nuclea warheads ready for launch to destroy the whole Earth, to bring us the Armageddon. It's a reminding that Putin and his henchmen warn the governments who helps Ukraine that Russia is ready to use even nuclear weapons if necessary.
This was a pretty long explanation, but without it you can easily misunderstand the song's real message. The same thing happened to me when I saw the video for the first time. Then I start to research, and now I see the song from a completely different angle. The band is well known and pretty popular in the region, and has a tendency to provoke, even shock (that explains their costumes on the scene). The lead singer and the bass player (the guy with the longer mustache on the right from the lead singer) are the driving force of the band, and they made a very catchy song with a strong anti-war message. At the same time the band just don't care about the placement on Eurovision song contest in Liverpool, they just want to go there, do they best performance possible and have fun. Btw. Your Channels name is "Honest Vocal Couch", so I ask you what do you think about the lead singers vocal performance?

Let 3 is an iconic Croatian rock band who’s been pushing the limits for 30 years. Once they published a record named “Silence”, and all that was on CD was - silence 😅
They’re singing about Lukashenko’s gift to Putin for his 70th birthday. The former gifted the latter a tractor. “Mama ŠČ” is a referral to Russia, with “šč” being the letter “щ” of the Russian alphabet. The lyrics “Mama ljubila morona” or “Mum was kissing a moron” refer to “Mother Russia” admiring Putin.
It is a critic against Putin and war in general. The moustaches are iconic for Let 3, and they always perform with fake moustaches on. They’re dressed like drag queens due to Russia’s homophobic policies. They, middle-aged macho men, stand proud on stage wearing maskara and makeup delivering massive criticism not many would dare to do.
The inscription on one of the performers’ forehands is “Njinle” which in Croatian slang means “Lenjin”.
I’m a big fan of your videos. You could’ve at least done some research on the band beforehand, but it’s easier to assume that it’s a militaristic anthem calling people to go to war I guess.

You misinterpreted the song completely :D
    The song is against war!
Tractor is a reference to Lukashenko's birthday gift for Putin. In the song, Putin is described as "little vile psychopath". The vocalist represents The great dictator (Staljin) while other guy has written on his head NJINLE (word game: LENIN). Mother ŠČ is a metaphor for mother Russia because it represents their letter щ. Johnson once referred to Putin calling him a crocodile but also it is a drug popular in Russia that makes people behave like zombies.
Lyrics could be translated like this:
    Mama bought a tractor
    Mama loved a moron
Bridge: (The most chaotic part of the song; letters of Croatian alphabet)
    Mama im going to war!
    That little psychopath
    Little viscous psychopath
    Crocodile psychopath
    Mama, I'm going to war
    💡fun facts:
💃Let 3 has been on Croatian music stage for over 30 years, they are known for provoking, satirical songs based on political events
🚜They actually arrived to Dora music contest on tractor
✏ŠČ is the oldest letter of Croatian's Glagolitic script originated in 9th century

hi :) here are some things from the interview translated from Croatian to English:
    - When asked if the song refers to the war in Ukraine or to wars in general, Prlja says yes to wars in general. "And not only about wars, specifically this one is really relevant now. As artists, we have the need to react to some kind of phenomenon, and war is really a terrible phenomenon, but in general the song is, let's say, that it sings about these kind of powerful and arrogant characters who think that the planet is their toy, but also at lower levels, those whose mom and dad buy a powerful car so they think they can park wherever they want," he said.
    - Asked if Putin is a psychopath, Prlja says that in this situation it is specific. "But if the song had been written ten years ago, someone else would have been in that role, 30 years ago someone else again. In 10 years, unfortunately, it will probably be someone else again".
"The anti-war theme will not help us win more points, but it should help all of us, because the anti-war theme is a message for a lot of peace and love. That is the only message we are sending," added Mrle.
but let me try and interpret the song for you:
    1. this is anti-war song, mocking Putin and all the dictators throughout history, and also they are dressed that way to support lgbtq+ community, not other way around (dictators were homophobes, they are dressed as a ''drag version'' of them, let's call it irony or satire)
    2. Mama ŠČ - Mother Russia, also šč is a letter from russian azbuka (but also from glagolitic)
    3. mama kupila traktora - a reference to Lukashenko's birthday present to Putin
    4. little psychopath - Putin, Staljin but also Lenjin (eng. Lenin - the bald guy has NJINLE on his forhead, basically it's a wordplay and it stands for Lenjin)
there are many layers to the song, from the lyrics to the clothes and stage performance, it's not a joke entry, and I hope this will help you to understand some off it
lots of love from Croatia! 🥰🥰🥰

OMG you actually tried to analyze LET 3 vocals... 😅😅
It is an anti-war satirical parody that was originally made for a theatrical performance. It talks about insanity of war, psychopaths who advocate it, and the chaos of Armageddon we have been threatened with.
So the guy is dressed as a zombie drag queen Stalin not because they glorify the war - it`s the opposite. The lyrics are pure symbolism; he doesn`t shout mama is a moron as you said, but "mama kissed the moron" referring to Mother Russia and their president. The internet is flooded with explanations of the rest of the lyrics.
They have been pushing boundaries in Croatia for decades by standing against homophobia, nationalism and chauvinism, and always doing it in "scandalous, provocative" ways. Is this for Eurovision? Unsurprisingly not, I don`t think the world can handle them - but I don`t think Croatians actually care. In Croatia and the region LET3 have a cult status, and many people are able to comprehend their art.
So Croatian audience knew how to react - they chose them :)

They aren't saying it explicitly, of course, and maybe they don't see themselves as being pro-war, but they nonetheless are. The rest is propaganda consumed by naive Croatians. And note that any and every song with some sort of social commentary is a propaganda song. Do you really think that the entertainment industry should be used to spread propaganda? Song is about psychopath that is loved by ‘mama šč’, who has decided to play with his bombs and start the war. It is opening many other topics like treatment of LGBTQ community under dictatorships etc. Even musical disorder has a message. Unfortunately this is the song that represents the time we live in. To Georgina's defence (and my own), I would like to clarify that this song expects far too much of an audience that has never heard about these artists, nor seen any of their performances. This will be the case for the overwhelming majority of Eurovision's viewers. They hear (and see!) this song for the first time in the semifinal and they see a bunch of middle-aged men with Hitler moustaches, weirdly semi-military cross-dressed and not singing particularly well, repeating something about a mum and a tractor, carrying around rockets and doing a kind of strip show in the end. We just don't get it. It is not funny, just weird. After reading the explanations, I understand that they have a massive following in the Balkans and quite a reputation, but we just don't get all that by listening to it (and watching it) for the first time. And even now, I still think it is not a very good entry.

This is actually an antiwar song. The song is chaos as war is chaos. It has a lot of "hidden" messages, e.g. ŠČ is an letter in Cyrillic alphabet, mama ŠČ connects to "mother Russia", or for that part any "motherland" used in case of any dictatorship. They are dictators, some people find elements of Charlie Chaplin portraits of Hitler, even more people think singer is impersonator of Putin - who is "that little psychopath" and "crocodile psychopath" , again because "crocodile" is a street name for a drug in Russia that "turns people to zombies". So mother ŠČ loved the moron, psychopath, dictator and we have now war, because the dictator (singer) is saying "Mum, I'm going to war". The person holding rockets has Lenin written on his forhead (as an anagram) but he is dressed like Rasputin. Tractors are, I think, connected to the tractor that Lukashenko has bought for Putins birthday... To sum up, the song, with its visuals is meant to portray the chaos, nonsence and stupidity of the war and dictators. It can be also taken as a criticizm of any psychopath, dictator that ever was, is, or will be on this planet who wants to go to war. In the song that psychopath is saying."mum, I'm going to war". So, I hope that at least I managed to explain lyrics a bit so it is easier to understand the message behind the song and the costumes and all the visual parts . The group that sings this went to Dora for a joke, to have some fun. They were more than surprised when they won. I don't think that they care at all if they will qualify or not. They have the reaction all over the world and that is actually what they always wated to do and always have done - to provoke a shock and reaction. So, for them I think, mission accomplished.

As I see no comments here, let me try to explain Let 3.
They are having this provocative style for about 30 years.
The song is not pro war as you have said.
It is satirical depiction about current conflict in Europe.
Guy with rockets has 'Njinle' written on his forehead. It is word play for Lenin, Ninle-Lenin (Lenjin in croatian).
Lead singer is supposted to be Stalin (You-Know-Who's role models).
Other word plays are 'mama' meaning mother Russia, 'tractor' is about gift Putin got from Lukashenko and also about Belarus being name of tractor model. 'Crocodile' is remembering time Johnson compared Putin to a crocodile, and finally I do believe everyone can guess who is 'vile little psychopat' referring to.
Song is mostly liked because people who were in war for their independence 30 years ago can have a lot of empathy for a nation suffering even worse enemy.
Behind the scenes Let 3 said most of this and they also added that some people (You-Know-Who) should not think about world as their playground and threaten with armageddon.

    Hello from Croatia.
I'm sorry that the video shocked you. The intention of this band, which has been on the Croatian music scene for about 30 years, is to shock decent people with their every public performance. They're known for getting naked on the stage, and worse. It just is shocking, but I'd like to point out several things. This isn't a war song, but actually an anti-war song directed at Putin, Russia, and the Ukrainian war. E.g. the little psychopath is Putin, Mama ŠČ is Russia, and the tractor they mention refers to the birthday present that Putin got from the Belarussian president. Personally, I'm pretty resistant to undecent things, and therefore I can watch this without freaking out. I like it, personally. And for some reason, this song got most points from the jury, and by far the most points from viewers at home, winning at the contest very convincingly. But I also would like to point at that all songs this year are terrible. To summarize, this is something to freak out from, but not because of presumptions you have. The song is not a glorification of war.

ŠČ is a letter from the Russian alphabet. Let3's rock operasong is about current Russian war aggression. They have been on Croatian music scene for over 30 years and are known for making provoking, satirical songs based on political events.
They actually arrived to the contest on a tractor.
    Song is full of symbolism.
In short, tractor is a reference to Lukashenko's birthday gift for Putin. In the song, Putin is described as "little vile psychopath". The vocalist represents Stalin, while other guy has written on his head NJINLE (word game: LENIN). Mother ŠČ is a metaphor for mother Russia. Johnson once referred to Putin calling him crocodile. Crocodile is also drug popular in Russia that makes people behave like zombies. 😀

It actually isn't about the war in Russia at all, and they've said it and laughed at the interpretation. But they're just showing how brainwashed the western world is at this point, and that everyone will like any terrible crap regardless, as long as it's anti-Russian. That's kinda the hidden point.

LET 3 is an iconic Croatian punk rock / alter band well known for bizarre and eccentric performances. They have been on the scene since the 80s, so this is pretty much what they do all the time :). The song is about psychopath Putin and what is going on at the moment. It is very much an antiwar song with a very straightforward message.
In fact, they did not plan to win it, just perform and spread a message in their typical artistic style. But they won and the rest of it will be history. :)

I love this song and I am happy to share why. I think it is very difficult to find a more relevant song for the present European reality we all are living in. Eurovision is about Europe and Europe is at war. It is insane to ignore it. This song just clearly mirrors the reality we are living in. And what is the meaning of Eurovision? Is it a constant repetition of what has already been seen and heard, or is it a feast of the new, provocative, queer and breath-taking? I vote for Eurovision being a feast of modern art, not just polite and clueless repetition of the past. This song is modern art. Everything has a meaning, it is full of metaphors.

Ther ARE actually doing it. That"s Let 3. Shocking and provocative ever since they started back in the late '80"s. It's not about glorifying a war, on the contrary. Mama ŠČ is about "Mama Russia and it's first son". EDIT: IT goes like this:
Mama ŠČ = Mama Russia (as the leter shch/ŠČ/щ is the most distinguishing letter of the Russian alphabet ).
Mama kupila traktora = Russia bought Belarus off (Belarus is a manufacturer and has well known brand of tractor called Belarus)
Mama was kissing a moron (Mama Russia was kissing its first son. Not to name anyone 😀)
Crocodile psychopath = crocodile being very popular drug in Russia, making people feel and act like zombies. Another reference is Boris Johnson that said "Negotiating with Pu-tin is like dealing “with a crocodile when it’s in the middle of eating your left leg.” ).
So that's pretty much about it. 😀

In the song Putin is described as a "vile little psychopath", the vocalist represents Stalin, and the guy with rockets has NINLE on his forhead (wordplay:Nin-Le=Lenin) and is dressed as a monk to represent Rasputin. The song is probably my favorite song from this Eurovision.
Mama ŠČ represents mother Russia. The “mom brought a tractor” line references to Belarus dictator giving Putin a tractor as a birthday gift.
The main singer is representing Stalin and the one with the nukes is representing Lenin (word play on his forehead).
So the song is basically mocking dictators and their actions. Like calling Putin a korkodil psychopath (krokodil is a very very dangerous drug popular in Russia).
So no, the song isn’t anti war. It uses themselves like war anthems (shown in the chorus) to its advantage to actively satirize them.
Now I’m not Croatian nor do I speak the language. So I’m getting my sources from other people and sites, but from what I have read. This is on par with what Let 3 usually does.

The singer is dressed like Charlie Chaplin in movie Great dictator because they are mocking all dictators, psychopaths who makes a small, ordinery man to go to war against their will. Part - trajnanina is really lullaby because all dictators are telling fairy tales to their people, washing their brains with media and then using them as soldiers as their lives doesn't matter. Armagedon nona / armagedon granmother is old demented dictator who has the power to destroy this world we are living in. And with this song they are asking question - Who dares to destroy this world and sacrifice young men lifes...for what? All the sounds and lights are here to show the chaos of the war. That is avant -garde theater technique and I think Ionesco, Beckett and Brecht would be very proud to see this. Let 3 is great punk rock croatian band and nobody was saying booo to them. They are on scene for over 30 years and this is normal for them. The singer is actually amazing vocal and they are artists. check their work. I'm so sorry you didn't experience the song at all. Many did not understand it, even those who understood the language. This especially surprises me, because the scene itself, costumes and props actually speak for themselves. Well, good. For those who need clarification, it's an anti-war song. Psychopaths and morons are all those who think that wars are a game and that the planet is their toy, so let's play. You keep saying you're scared, but the world is a scary place right now. It was a terrible place in the past, and it will be in the future, as long as there are these morons that "mom" loves and supports. Each listener can freely imagine who would be a moron for him, and who would be the one who loves him and looks up to him. The translation of the song is disastrously bad, so "trajna - nina" is part of the chorus of an old folk song from the region where the group is from, and "nona" (grandmother) after Armageddon was probably inserted just because it rhymes with "morona". The costumes are a parody of military uniforms, one even looks stained with blood, their lips are blood red (we have a term "bloodthirsty" for those who always call for bloodshed), etc.

It is really interesting that vocal coach did not tell anything about singer (his vocal abilities) but focused only on stage presence. I find that quite weird.
In that regard you failed to deliver in your reaction.
I am glad that you found lyrics too see what the song is about but you totally missed the mark that this is antiwar song.
Every line is code since you cannot openly say who is psychopath, so you must convey meaning in different way.
Since you totally missed code here are couple of hints.
Mama ŠČ is metaphor for Mother Russia. ŠČ is letter in russian language.
Tractor is metaphor for Belarus and its president Lukasenko.
So Mum bought tractor means Russia bought Belarus (and used their country as staging point to invade Ukraine).
Mum loved moron means Russia loves Putin.
Armageddon Grandma means SSSR (Putin is trying to expand on territories which were part of SSSR).
I guess part of song where psychopat is mentioned dont need much of explanation.
Maybe part where Putin is called Crocodile psychopath; many people say that this line is connected with Boris Johnson and his description of Putin as crocodile; other say it is type of drug used in Russia that makes people acting almost like zombies.
Mum i am playing, and Mum i am going to war probably is self explanatory.
Now couple of hints about stage presence cause you missed those marks as well.
    Singer represents Stalin (moustache).
That dude in black robe is dressed as Rasputin but on his forehead is written Njinle. Njinle is anagram and real word is Lenin.
Missles represents nuclear threats we face almost every day by some Russian official.
All members of band have uniforms and dresses to mock Putins homophobic nature ( in Russia being openly gay is punishable by prison).
If you watched behind band members on screen there was dancing but in white and red stripes (most posters in SSSR time were designed like that).
I could write more stuff but since english is not my native language it is kind of pain in the neck.
So antiwar song that mock dictators.
You may say that politics should not be part of Eurovision, and that is valid point, but that train left station long time ago.

Mama is "Mother Russia", ŠČ is щ - letter from Russian alphabet, so Mama ŠČ is Russia
Belarus is a type of Russian tractor, also last year Belarusian president Lukashenko sent Putin a birthday gift - tractor, so tractor is Belarus
    Lyrics:
Mum bought a tractor = Russia bribed Belarus
Mum kissed a moron = Russia loved Putin
Nona means grandma, babushka in Russian, and you know that traditional Russian Babushka toy - a smaller one emerges from the larger grandma, many of them, last one is micro, so Putin is the smallest and last babushka popping out ("little psychopath) and btw Putin's general Surovikin is aka "General Armageddon",
So if Mama ŠČ is Putin's Russia which is trying to restore the empire of Stalin's Russia politically then
    Lyrics:
    Armagedon nona = Stalin's Russia
Little psychopath is Putin, Crocodile is heavy Russian drug turning people into zombies, crocodile is also how Boris Johnson described Putin
    Lyrics:
    That little psychopath
    Little vile psychopath
    Crocodilian psychopath
Mummy I'm going to the war
It's funny how you try to be serious about an absolute joke with many hidden political messages. They are trolling Putin as well as all dictators as well as the moment we live in, but most of all - with the structure of the song they are trolling Eurovision for becoming exactly that - a festival of trash. Let 3 is alter rock band known for dark humor and eccentricity to the extremes. I hope this helps. 😉
