Henk is singing this song for Floor. It was one of the songs she said her father liked to listen to when she was young. Did you notice the little eyebrow raise at the end. His way of saying, "just for you Floor". He had never used distortion before. Henk made the statement that if he ever auditioned for a part and they heard any distortion they would show him the door. He is a great singer. I loved it! So did Floor!
*Henk's distortion* : before he and the other singers flew down (in Spring) to resort Atzaró on Ibiza Island for tv show BesteZangers, Henk Poort learned the distortion vocal technique in Amsterdam within 2 hours with his vocal coaches Alberto ter Doest and Daan Smits. They are certified UVS voice coaches at the Universal Voice Institute in Amsterdam. UVS (Universal Voice system) is a simple and clear system to get the most out of your voice. Quote by Poort: ”If I'd use distortion in my opera repertoire I'd be fired immediately...”
Chills, chills and more chills! Floor has been a fan of Henk since he played the Phantom. She explained that when she heard that he was going to be on the show with her she "fan-girled." In this episode everyone sang to/for Floor. He chose the song because it was a favorite of hers. Everyone on the show just loved "Uncle Henk."
He is one of the most experienced Dutch tenors. Played the lead in Les Miserables, Fiddler on the roof and the Phantom 30 years ago. His wife is also a famous musical actress an actress in a long running soap opera.
One thing that no one seems to mention or notice is that he is not using any in ears, he knows his voice inside and out and has amazing control... its facinating
I spotted it quite quickly. Everyone else uses ear monitors. Not sure if he has floor monitor there though.

Henk has a realy thick amsterdam dialect , when speaking dutch ,he also had only 2 hrs to practice this version of the song and learn distortion but he can sing in a multitude of languages and mimick most of english dialects, in the course of this show he sings several songs in different languages and styles.
This Henk performance still got me chills for everytime I listened to it.
Floor has been a big fan of Henk from when she was a little girl. That is why she was so amazed and happy
The show setup is they sing to each other each week. This was Floor's night, and she encouraged him to try the distortion. It really worked. Watch his expression at the end. haha
When Henk sings, he takes you on a journey of story telling, emotions and utter bliss, this man is a force of (musical) nature.
I love how the jaws drop, of pretty much each and every reactor on UA-cam, who hears this the first time.
While i love the version Disturbed did, i did not have that jaw drop, the first time i heard their version, not like i had with Henk, Henk had me almost break my jaw... so to speak hehehe.
Henk grabs you in a split second, he has you the moment he opens his mouth and starts to sing, if there was ever a male equivalent to the Mythological Siren of folklore stories, then it has to be Henk.

It was Floor's turn in the spotlight so everyone sang a song that's important to her. Floor didn't help Henk with this song, he went to his vocal coach and learned distortion in just 2 hours. Floor is proud because she's been a fan of Henk since she was 12, and he's learned to sing with distortion especially for her. No wonder she's delighted!
The other blond singer is Samantha Steenwijk. Maybe you can do a reaction to her singing too. She's had no training, just a lady who was a finalist in The Voice of Holland.

He wanted to nail the song and distortion for Floor and there he knows he did it!
He had decades and decades of career behind him and on this show right before this song was the first time we saw him look a bit nervous.
Floor and the voices she's used to singing with are quite a bar in the metal genre.
By the time this performance happend they had spent a lot of time together and he was their "Uncle Henk", so they were proud of him. I think they were focussed on Floor's reaction because it was her week to be sung to, it was his song for her, in the style of a cover by a rock band.
The older blond lady is Samantha Steenwijk. Floor covered one of her songs when it was her week to sing to.

He still performs all over. He's a professional opera singer.
@Deep He probably takes well care of his voice and body. if you live a healthy life the voice also stay in shape longer. Watch Mick Hucknall (Simply Red), his voice is also still on spot. Using drugs or drink or smoke a lot will, imo, have a serious impact on the voice.
So getting older doen't always mean your voice is going down.
Paul McCartney said the man's voice only gets better after the 40's.
Henk was very nervous about doing this song.

Floor has always been a big fan of Henk Poort. She looked up to him. When she heared he was also invited to Beste Zangers she was delighted.
When Henk start singing I was got chills and listening while experiencing goosebumps. You know how great that he is as a singer when he able to do that to your body and mind.

-Samatha Steenwijk: Sings Dutch folklore since 2009 and runner up in the Voice of Holland 2018, which made her more famous in the Netherlands. Like Floor she has a very strong and powerfull voice.
- Ruben Annink. Won the Dutch TV show Singer/Songwriter and in the spring of his career. Writes his own songs.
- Rolf Sanchez : Latin/Salsa/Reggaeton singer with 3 no 1 hits in the American Billboard Tropical Songs Chart, including the song Que Se Siente that Floor sang for him in the previous episode. He works with Guianko Gómez, producer of Marc Anthony. Like Floor better known outside than inside The Netherlands, especially in Latin America.
- Henk Poort :. Very well known Opera/Operette/Musical singer in the Netherlands for whom Floor sang the Vilja song. Sang the dutch version of The Phantom of the Opera (spoiler: He and Floor will sing that duet in the last episode)
- Tim Akkerman Former : member of the Dutch rockband Di-Rect (1999-2009) and now having a career of his own. His latest album contains American Rock influenced by Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam and Brian Adams.
- Emma Heesters: Has her own UA-cam Cover channel with more than 1 million followers. Working on her first album in the USA at Universal Republic Records with multi-platinum and Grammy Award winning record producers and writers
-And of course Floor jansen The front woman of NightWish she is now the center of this episode. Note: Floor is considering singing Spanish for the Nightwish fans in Latin America and Rolf has pledged his cooperation to help her with the Spanish pronunciation.

Samantha said after the song that Henk made the couches shudder with the low notes in the beginning.
I know that I am 10 months late to the party, but I don't see anybody commenting that Henk is singing the Disturbed version of this song. And he does acquit himself well. But Disturbed didn't just do a cover of the Simon and Garfunkel version, the completely reimagined the song and made it completely their own (very much like when Gary Jules took the Tears for Fears song "Mad World" and reimagined it so much that it became much more than the original and everybody started doing covers of Gary's version). So if you like this cover of the Disturbed's version, you owe it to yourself to watch Disturbed do it themselves. I like their official music video version, but much better, IMHO, is their live version on Late Night with Conan O'Brien.

Henk's live Disturbed version of this classic is by far the best. No need for auto-tuning his live voice like they did with David Draiman on Conan, although David claims it was done against his will.

Actually he was singing to Floor. This performancd is from her episode, where she didn't sing but she was sung to. One blond lady is Samantha Steenwijk you might know her because in the second episode Floor sang her song 'Mama' the other blond lady is Emma Heesters, she sang Floor's song 'Strong' you should analize it, it was also from Floor's episode

To be honest ,I could better understand the text with his 'accent' than in many other versions.
To see how effortless the start if the song was for him, and how much he had to focus when adding the distortion was amazing. The result is phenomenal!

The blond lady is samantha steenwijk (stainwyke pronounced) she is a dutch folk singer( finalist last years tvoh and winner of dutch dancing with the stars-> with a broken toe!) im not into dutch music but she is a lovely character ..floor rightly sayd she lights up the room...funny to see the more than an houre livechat the two friends had back in august.....if you wanna see or comment on samantha i recommend the song way i do she performed for tim akkerman( former singer of direct)... Funny to see her do a rocky song in english and i must say she did pretty good( also always nice to see the faces of the other singers who were amazed!)

Great! I love it! BTW The point of the show is in part the reactions of the artists being sung to. So the singers don't know what is going to happen. So Floor didn't help Henk Poort with his false vocal fold distortion, he got a lesson for that. The singers choose and prepare the songs months in advance for everything to be recorded in 4 nights in Ibiza.

Omg, so good!! I believe this version is from my fav band ever, Disturbed. They are a major rock band that branched out and reimagined simon and garfunkel same song.
People have already said it, but Floor is a big fan of Henk, and during the whole season, each time he went to sing, of course she was in fangirl mode. She really looks up to him. It is really cute.

henk is a opera singer for floor, he goes first time in distortion. floor is a great fan from her youth. she was fangirling at she knew THE Henk Poort is in the same Show with her.
the blonde lady is indeed samantha steenwijk ,she sings predomently a dutch sort of typical dutch folk style/tearjerking songs we call levenslied(songs of real life happenings) mostly song by people of the lower working class. she is also really good at rock ,she has got that traditional raw type of rock voice
Ah, finally someone mentions the term 'levenslied' ! The literal translation 'lifesong' doesn't really do it justice, but I like to describe it as 'Dutch Blues'. The term 'folkmusic' doesn't quite fit, imho...

I was this years old when I realised Georgina edits her background on and I’m so shocked 😂
After the end it was visible how sypatic and humble man he is. At least for me.
As a student of several languages, I noticed the slight accent almost immediately, but I feel it added to the beauty of the performance. As for comparisons to other artists, I think both Disturbed and Simon & Garfunkel's renditions have great merit, but which of the three versions is "better"? It's unimportant and and irrelevant; they are all moving in their own way.
About his accent: for most people who have English as their 2nd language, it is hard to switch. I'm fluent in English, but my accent gets worse when I need to switch. The talking in-between the songs is in Dutch; that makes it harder. When Seth Meyers interviewed Arjen Lubach in English (ua-cam.com/video/8DwWH_QiOVo/v-deo.html), all went well until Arjen named the Dutch city Enschede (around 3:33). He continued the interview in Dutch without being aware of it.

Henk did the diustortion especialy for floor as he knew she liked the disturbed version. And he learned this only 2 weeks before the performance.

He was probably more worried about hitting the distortion right. They didn't expect a Dutch show to blow up internationally.
Those who have seen him in the countless musicals he's done, have heard him cross over using other aspects of his voice. Not so pronounced, but given that he had to act and play the part, he certainly did explore distortion for example when he was "angry" in his role.
Have you heard your accent?..Henk is one of the best Male singers I have ever heard. And I didn' t hear any wrong accent in this song..
