Tysm for this video! I’m only in 8th grade right now and I’ve been really obsessing over academics ever since I was in about 5th grade. Honestly, constantly studying and attempting to excel academic wise really burnt me out. I’ve been very scared of high school and college and all of these aspects of getting older. It wasn’t until I really started building friendships again, (in my last years of middle school after moving-,) that I actually started getting involved and hanging out with the new friends I’ve made. Your video has not only encouraged me to get out of my comfort zone, but also to be excited for the future!! Again, thank you so much :D

Trust me, high school will be the best experience of your life. So many opportunities, lots of older "brothers" and "sisters" that will help you traverse in the world of academics. There is nothing to to be scared of. I am currently in the 9th grade, and so far, I will say it is better than middle school.

don't burn out over taking too many ap classes and dual enrollments that u start getting worse grades but do plan out ur future!! some people make the mistake of overloading in their junior year and their grades tank, don't do the same and dont try following what everyone else is doing!!

this is great. thanks so much, all the time i don’t think im doing enough, but now after watching this video i feel better because im doing things on here that you’ve said will differentiate myself. I started a new job over the summer and plan to continue at very least until next school year, and am running a youtube channel where i make video essays on discussing music (how an artist can go mainstream, my opinions on albums, artist biographies, etc) and plan on trying to make a fashion video to see if i like it. I’m also in humanities honors at my school and am writing a paper I plan on turning into a video eventually. I also want to try and start a small business as part of a big project at the end of the year. again thanks so much for the reassurance

another cool thing you can do is a research project!! currently i am conducting a research project during my junior year (i go to two schools, one stem and one my "base" school, but there are normally research classes in most schools where i am) that i am extremely passionate about! i am also very involved in my base school's music program. something that colleges want to see (from what i heard) is passion! stay committed to things! i've been extremely dedicated to music and have become more dedicated to science in the last couple of years on top of that!! colleges (and other programs, like an exchange program i applied to that i just learned i got an interview for!) want you to be dedicated. in some cases, your sat and gpa scores don't have to be phenomonal. i only have a 3.83 weighted and my sat score will be in the 1300s to 1400s, but show a passion!! be authentic!! legitimately, i believe that's one of the things that helps the most, especially cause colleges are not looking so strongly at sat scores and gpas anymore! edit: btw this is coming from an extremely competitive area because of our proximity to a major city :) be you and do what you want to, if you're able to (i get that money is a problem for a good amount of people, so in some cases this might not be optimal, but be authentic) edit 2: completely forgot i'm in nhs and tri-m, that's a bonus :)

I have a few questions if you don’t mind answering them: (sorry for the yap session)
    1. I’m in my school’s band, we’re pretty reputable and I have a leadership position. However, it’s pretty time consuming and my parents really think I should quit because they don’t think it’ll help me on my college apps or in college in general. What do you think?
    2. I want to be a pediatrician, or at least pursue something in the medical field. I’ve won science fairs and joined medical clubs (HOSA, smaller clubs, etc) What hs classes/majors/colleges would you recommend?
    3. Here are some of my ecs, am i cooked?
    - 2022 drsef sci fair grand prize winner
    - 2023 TMEA Freshman all-region band member
    - 2022 3rd in my weight class for city wide wrestling comp (middle school)
    - 2019 district spelling bee participant
    - 2017 - 2023 student leadership (2022- 2023 historian)
    - 2015 winner of undisclosed art contest (people completed globally)

Definitely do what YOU want to do, and what you are passionate about. For example, If I like cooking and want to go to college for a cooking degree, I would join a cooking club and volunteer as a chef aide for a soup kitchen. Really in my opinion getting into college is about showing a reflection of your passion, because really the point of college is of course to get an education. You need to show them you are determined to get an education in your field by doing things related to it. In terms of EC's you could definitely bridge more on programming, like joining or creating a club, or participating in programming competitions like making a basic app. Do not focus on being different, focus on being authentic with your passion to the highest degree- and being "different" will follow. This process is very stressful but you got this! College is only a part of your life, not the entirety.

Though, may I ask, as a prospective international student, currently an 11th Grader, I want to study Electrical Engineering.

    2. Former Vice President of the Student Government Association of my City
    3. Regional Chemistry Olympiad Participant
    4. Hobbyist in Python Programming
    5. Class President
    6. News writer and Columnist for the Official School Publication with over 10 articles already.
    7. One of the known Top 9 Students of our school out of 130, unknown rank yet (My Unweighted is 94.9/100, rumored to be rank 2-4 in STEM, where the highest is from the Humanities with 95 smth...)
It is really difficult to find other extra-curriculars related to my wanted major as opportunities as such is not that given in my school, locality, and country. Do I have a shot? And what do I need to improve?

if you're a freshman, take the time to ACTUALLY explore. Are you saying that you want to get into CS or cybersecurity because coding looks cool? If you haven't done the actual work that goes inside CS and cybersecurity, you'd have no perspective to make a judgment. Instead of trying to commit to something head on, explore a bit and see what really sticks

@@sh2nu1ee Alright, so the reason the I want to go for a CS major is because I like problem solving and math is the one thing I understand really easy. I understand that committing early could be a bad thing, but to be unique and get into better colleges, isn't it better to show long-term commitment to something? Also, in my opinion doing a CS major with maybe like a minor in statistics, opens up a lot of opportunities that interest me. This is just one example, I could go into Data Analysis because I love numbers and have a background in CS. Thanks for your reply and insight.
