Tysm for this video! I’m only in 8th grade right now and I’ve been really obsessing over academics ever since I was in about 5th grade. I've been watching a lot of your videos and was wondering if you could give me a few tips. I'm currently a freshman with great grades, but not any impactful extracurriculars. As of now, I think I want to go into the CS or cybersecurity field, so do you have any recommendations for me to get into top colleges. (I'm open to basically anything 🙂)
if you're a freshman, take the time to ACTUALLY explore. Are you saying that you want to get into CS or cybersecurity because coding looks cool? If you haven't done the actual work that goes inside CS and cybersecurity, you'd have no perspective to make a judgment. Instead of trying to commit to something head on, explore a bit and see what really sticks
@@sh2nu1ee Alright, so the reason the I want to go for a CS major is because I like problem solving and math is the one thing I understand really easy. I understand that committing early could be a bad thing, but to be unique and get into better colleges, isn't it better to show long-term commitment to something? Also, in my opinion doing a CS major with maybe like a minor in statistics, opens up a lot of opportunities that interest me. This is just one example, I could go into Data Analysis because I love numbers and have a background in CS. Thanks for your reply and insight.
@@im_mortalyt Don't commit to anything freshman year, give it some thought. Especially because you're mentioning other topics as well, give yourself the year to settle on one thing you're actually passionate about

Hi! You mentioned overly generic clubs- but are there any way to boost those clubs for your application? Right now, I’m in the process of creating a key club at the school, and it’ll be the first volunteering club we have. Once I (hopefully) get members, do you have any tips to make this a little more special?
first ensure that your club gets members. go to club rush, put up posters, reach out to your school's social media and ask to advertise your club. Once you've done that, it's all a numbers game. The number of people you lead, the number of hours you put in, etc.
@ thank you! I go to a pretty small, underfunded, (lowkey shitty) high school 😭- 100 kids in my grade, and less than 400 kids overall. The biggest club in the entire school has 25 kids, and it’s the student council. I see other schools having hundreds of kids per club, and I’m scared that my club won’t have nearly enough kids. What do you think I should do?
as a freshman wanting to go into the Medical field, how is this current stuff I’m doing? Also any tips are helpful! (this is all from my first 3 months) -4-8 hours per 2 weeks food shelf volunteering -School volunteering club -HOSA member -Registered for HOSA’s Biomedical Debate competition and Health Career Photography competition -Painter, Photographer -Joining Speech club soon for this year’s season (we do competitions against other schools in state) -Student Council -All honors classes -Taking the only AP offered for freshman -3.83 GPA from my first Trimester -Taking CEMS classes (Center of Engineering, Math, and Science by PLTW)
These are all pretty great ngl especially for a freshman, but u gotta explain how it impacted u or how it impacted others. Admissions officers are also looking for leadership, so while u do have a solid foundation, find things that really interest u and show obvious committment

@LilmizK depends on ur desired major- might wanna do something closer to law/management with ur activity in public speech and leadership roles

I never got a “paying” job but was elected to my district’s Board of Education. I can’t mark this as a “job” or “work experience,” as I wasn’t paid, but will it have the same effect?
How attractive is actively participating in leadership roles in Boy Scouts of a very large troop and I hope to get my eagle
Especially because you're mentioning other topics as well, give yourself the year to settle on one thing you're actually passionate about
UC requires verification for 10% of applicants. how would a person go about proving their ownership of a blog/account? Would a counselor recommendation suffice or a picture of the metrics?
Anything to help prove the legitimacy of your blog/account will suffice
Hi, I want to be a law student, and I do tennis, piano, and speech/debate. How can I take speech/debate to the next level? Also, in terms of jobs, what kinds of jobs make a big impact on admissions officers?
When you say get a job, does a generic job like working as a cashier still add to my application or would I have to work in something more specific to my interests
Something related to ur interests would work better, but something is better than nothing!
I'm a sophomore in high school and I don't have anything outstanding to show on my application, is there any advice?
Advice for freshman (l am a freshman )
1 ap class, enrolled in college for associate of science, certified in word processing and cpr, in HOSA and BPA (i got 1st in word and 3rd for videoproduction, i'm a singer, my endorsement in highschool is patient care tech, i go to a CTE School, currently getting certified for Ekg, phlebotomy, OSHA safety, Patient Caretech, business marketing.
Advice for freshman (I’m not as impressive as all of you)
Varsity swimming for school
Club swimming
First Robotics Team programming branch
Volunteering at library + soup kitchen
Lifeguarding over summer
I’m starting a programming passion project so we’ll also see how that goes.
advice for sophomore (want to do law, 1 ap class, been doing tennis outside of school, 1 honours class)
Hey Shinwhoo! I've recently found you channel, and I loved it! Your videos are not generic and were direct to the point with good explanations and great advices!
Though, may I ask, as a prospective international student, currently an 11th Grader, I want to study Electrical Engineering.
My stats are the following;
1. Former President of the Student Council
2. Former Vice President of the Student Government Association of my City
3. Regional Chemistry Olympiad Participant
4. Hobbyist in Python Programming
5. Class President
6. News writer and Columnist for the Official School Publication with over 10 articles already.
7. One of the known Top 9 Students of our school out of 130, unknown rank yet (My Unweighted is 94.9/100, rumored to be rank 2-4 in STEM, where the highest is from the Humanities with 95 smth...)
It is really difficult to find other extra-curriculars related to my wanted major as opportunities as such is not that given in my school, locality, and country. Do I have a shot? And what do I need to improve?
yo i’m in 9th 3.5gpa in animal rescue club joining DECA soon play freshman basketball and do nothing else, what could I do?
Start your own club related to a subject you like. Do a passion project based around something you find enjoyable.
Advice for freshman (all honors or ap classes, play basketball in a private team (missed the school tryouts), got at least top 5 in a few math olympiads, 4.75 weighted gpa currently (idk if that’s accurate tho))
what to do if i want to major in foreign relations and maybe become a FSO?
I also want to become diplomat

Help I only have music as my extracurriculars, I still have a few years but I think all I’ve ever done is volunteer and help teach kids how to play the violin and sing, I’ve been in string and symphony orchestra, choir and also mixed choir for years but I’m not planning to major music. My parents want me to be a doctor and I think my grades are enough but what do I write 🤓 Do I have to join something in summer like courses or something ??😭 (Please send help)
Brotha, u needa slow down, u still have a few years u said, so im assuming ur a freshman? A lot can happen in 3 years, so dont be pressured by anyone or anything. Find things you enjoy, which based on what I read, music, and invest your time and energy into it. Relax, u will make it through, dont stress, and best of luck to u.
@NotEmmaYNot ngl if u excel in music that’s great, but try to get involved in more science stuff if u wanna be a doctor. but try to find out what u want, not what ur parents want
i’m going into environmental science and journalism but is it still good to mention i was a former top 500 overwatch player (peaked number 10) on console (+ grandmaster on pc)? if i do i would probably put it lower on my list idk though
for the record i’m working on an environmental passion project rn, writing an environmental chemistry related research paper rn, and have a lot of other strong ec’s + achievements
quite a unique EC! if you were to include I agree, it should be lower on the list.
@@sh2nu1ee thank you for the feedback! :)
What about family responsibilities? 😔
Hey, Im a freshman- still havent done anything and I got a bit of social anxiety and iM really shy- Im thinking of being a dentist or maybe something thats related to History- do you know any ECs that would help me to get into Yale? Its my dream college
And btw i live in the US
Bro u needa chill out ur a freshman. While its good to think about colleges dont stress on it bruh. Just involve yourself in activities relating to your interests. U have plenty of time.
Regarding jobs, is it ok that I had a job only in my sophomore year as long as my other ECs are good?
what about for finance? i havent taken any maths subjects
I am working on one of the largest NGO in my city. I started as an intern, and now I am an admin assistant. What do you think about this activity?
awesome! admissions officers would be glad that you got yourself deep into a great NGO.
@@sh2nu1ee thanks
A lot of people say that marching band is an bad extracurricular, but what if your highly competitive?
Our marching band recently placed at grand nationals and we consistently place top 5 every year.
In this instance, would it be a good extracurricular? Or should I still try and find something else
It depends on your other activities but if it’s really high level, they’ll probably recognize that
whats with the ominous music lmao
Alr as a freshman so far, here's what I've got and tell me how I can go on with this:
GOAL: Pre-law with a degree in either Business or English

Debate Club, member for now

Y'all are so lucky to have AP classes 😭 I live in the Caribbean
is ancient Hungarian cabinet making a useful skill? thanks
would be very interesting to use within an essay!
(this is all from my first 3 months)
-4-8 hours per 2 weeks food shelf volunteering
-School volunteering club
-HOSA member
-Registered for HOSA’s Biomedical Debate competition and Health Career Photography competition
-Painter, Photographer
-Joining Speech club soon for this year’s season (we do competitions against other schools in state)
-Student Council
-All honors classes
-Taking the only AP offered for freshman
-3.83 GPA from my first Trimester
-Taking CEMS classes (Center of Engineering, Math, and Science by PLTW)
These are all pretty great ngl especially for a freshman, but u gotta explain how it impacted u or how it impacted others. Admissions officers are also looking for leadership, so while u do have a solid foundation, find things that really interest u and show obvious committment
Can I apply to your program as an international student?
yes of course!
Dang you are hella underated
Can you rate my ECs

@ The Northrop Grumman internship is called HIP (Highschool internship program) I was nominated from my school so I don’t know to apply in general. And for coding club I cold emailed local businesses with the same email format which asked if we could redesign their website for free and .
@@duirell7650 judging by these you probably wanna go into comp sci? these ECs are pretty fire and I think ur quite set
If you were so great at getting people into colleges, you wouldn't go to Northeastern yourself for 2024 lol. It's just not very convincing to have people pay for your service. I'm a Northeastern alum.
@@bbriamhoo Dang, seeing alumni hating kinda hurts. I personally don’t do counseling myself, I hire former admissions officers and counselors into my team and connect them with our clients. If I were the one doing the counseling that wouldn’t make much sense since I have never had experience inside admissions offices. Hope that clears things up!
even better advice, don't go to college.
