That's an extremely versatile drum! Sounds great from low to cranked!
This guy is really good.
I bought a Ludwig Venus Carl Palmer Signature snare drum at an ELP Legacy concert a few years ago. At the band 'meet and greet' after the show Carl Palmer himself signed the batter head and gave me some tuning tips: replace the OEM batter head with a Remo coated Emperor and the OEM snare attachment strings with tape. I generally prefer deeper depth snare drums but gotta tell ya that little drum rocks! Very wide tuning range and very sensitive.
Tape?? That’s a new one… are you sure he didn’t mean the sort of straps you get with some snares? And why tape if that’s what he meant?
@@Benny_Pill He said 'tape'. I knew what he meant. I refer to them as 'tape' too be it the plastic or woven fabric type. Tomatoes, tomahtoes.
@@thomasmoje5926 ok, did he explain why? Does it make a difference in the sound?
@@Benny_Pill He just said the 'tape' (straps) snare wire attachment is better than the string attachments that come with the drum. The drum sounded great 'out of the box' but I replaced the OEM snare attachment cords with straps. I prefer strap-type snare attachment specifically the woven fabric snare attachment straps. They are thin and flexible and allow for the snare wire metal butt ends to lay flat against the head..sometimes cord attachment strings make a bit of space under the snare wire butt plates due to the thickness of the cord strings. I've found that fabric strap snare attachment reduces 'sympathetic/extraneous' snare buzzing, but that's just my opinion.
@@thomasmoje5926 Ok, thanks for your answers!
Now that's how ya Demo a snare.Very nice!!
I had heard other videos about the Carl drum and... they just didn't cut it. THIS is the Best video i've heard .. knowing how to tune makes a big difference, plus washy to tighter wires, even the brushes you can hear the pangy overtone.. Amazing. i now need a CP snare..
Very nice drumming
I was always curious about this drum. Thanks for the demo! 👍🏾
I've had my eye on the 'Venus' for a while now, great sounding, and visually appealing. I'm surprised how good it sounds at low tunings. Nice playing.
From what I can tell, shell diameter and batter head determine how low a drum can be tuned more so than shell depth, while shell depth is a factor in how fast the snare wires respond.
Great showcase of a fascinating Drum! Fantastic playing! I like your style. Thanks.
Great drumming!
I could listen to this guy play all day. Has some tasty chops and grooves. Unbelievable!!! A++++
Vídeo nota 10 ! Mostrou todas as possibilidades de afinações.
Damn, I can't believe the sounds that thing is putting out for a 3.75! I have to get one.
2112 always has them in stock! Give us a call at 919-833-0046 when you're ready :)
Maravilha de som !!!
Nice 👍
WTF! You are the perfect channel for me! I subscribe! nice tunings ;)
Beautiful hi - hats
Thanks! Those are 15" Paiste 602 Modern Essentials Hats. Just a wonderful pair!
Ok man. When are you going to start designing and building your drum Brand?
Just ordered this drum based after watching this video I was SOLD
I had to order it after this demo. So perfectly tuned and played with the right dynamics. Can't wait for it to arrive.
Great demo, nice playing! For me, I thought the drum sounded the best at the medium and medium high tuning.
I wonder if they’ll ever make a 5”..
Great tuning range…love the medium high.
The Universal Model LU5514 with the black nickel hardware and die cast hoops would be what you're looking for. It just isn't green.
Loved that cowbell groove at the end ! I once tried the throw off on this drum, and it seemed like it was difficult to disengage and engage the snares. It looked a little cheap to me, seeing as its a signature model. It does sound great at all tunings for such a shallow drum. On a side note, is that really an 18x14 kick?
Throwoffs on super shallow snares can be less snazzy than, say, a Trick, but this is a pretty inexpensive drum, and honestly the throwoff works just fine, so it's cool with me. And yes, that is indeed an 18! There's something about Gretsch kicks; they always seem to sound bigger than they actually are!
Drummer? Gördügüm en iyi tanitim yapan davulcu👍👍

My God, the crack from that thing! Move over Copeland!!!
Gotta say, brushes sound kinda weird on it. But I always appreciate you throwing it in there Ryan.
Yeah, the brushes would definitely benefit from a Fiberskyn on this drum.
Great snare all around but the throw off gives me fits!!! I read other drummers say the same thing.
Like the. Sound at medium high. Is that a swish played off to the right?
You could call it that. It's a big Bosphorus Jazz Master, and they call it a China. It's also marked 22, but measures 23" across...
@@2112percussion_ nice. 22 jazz swishes are fantastic
Can i ask what brand and model the cowbell is? sounds so good.
Clearly, no!
@@somebloke13i didn't ask you so i don't give a fuck about your opinion.
Could you make a video about gretsch brooklyn chrome over steel snare? I think it's ridiculoysly underrated. 2mm thick steel shell with the same high-end hardware you find on gretsch's usa custom snares (except the snap in drum key holder) and for about 500€ in europe.
We do have a couple of those at the shop!
@@2112percussion_a question, what snare drum is better... Carl Palmer or Copeland????
I can't decide.
Did you change out the snares and batter head?
All stock
As soon as I heard that high tuning I thought reggae. I guess the demo-er did too lol
Where is it manufactured?
These are made in Taiwan
Is it seamless shell?
These are made in Taiwan and are seamed shells. However, all of the US-made Ludwigs are seamless. All of them.
@@2112percussion_ I have two seamless raw brass and raw copper Ludwig snares. i was curious about this one. Thank you for information! Cheers!
Low tuning a piccolo is so odd. Has a fat attack, but dry. Almost like a gate.
That's something I've noticed will happen to some (not all) drums when you tighten the snares just so. Try it - take a Ludwig or a Tama or a Pearl, tune the top head low (leave the bottom tight), then tighten the snares starting with them super loose. It'll go from rattly, to perfect, to choked, to gated, and back to choked, where it'll stay. That weird magic spot between the choked regions is how I get that gated sound. Big sploot.
That's a big studio trick, I've heard Aaron Sterling talk about it
That’s the sound of the 90s, man…STP, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against The Machine, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, the list goes on…all those records had fat piccolo sounds of some sort. Emphasizes everything you want sitting with the band and cuts out everything you don’t…especially when processed with parallel compression and/or a good room sound.
My signature snare drum is similar, it's called the "penus" 2x10.
throw a gold plated brass 1.6 TF hoop at the bottom and this drum is even better. the DC hoop at the bottom is too much.
i have it, love it!, with time i go more for shallow snares..., the hats and the big china sounds really good, hats are paiste and china ziljian?
China is a 22" Bosphorus Jazz Master. Lots of specs in the video description!
what frequency of medium tuning?
