    My old band mate from our first band we were in together had one of these and the plain one with the blue & olive badge and one day I was visiting him and he said, "hey man...pick one of the drums that you like and it is yours." I picked the Black Galaxy and use it as my main snare for everything! Cheers!

    I loved the drum at the high tuning. A medium high tuning would’ve been interesting, at the cranked tuning, I thought the drum choked out. All in all a great sounding. I own a regular acro and according to the serial number was manufactured in 1978 and is in pristine condition.

    • @NickCostaMusic

      I agree with you, @ronniek7748 - this drum in a high tuning really sings. That's a great acrolite you have! Is it a smooth shell or does it have that orange peel texture?

    Once again proving you can't go wrong with an acro! At home I don't notice any real difference between my '70s and the black acro.

    Blackrolites do look amazing and they definitely sound more dry than one's from 60s or 70s. Right now my go-to snare is LM405 Blackrolite - 10 lugs and no muffler. Absolutely love it!

    I’ve gone through a few higher end Ludwig snares now trying to “upgrade” but I always go back to my old blackcrolite in the end. I love how dry and warm it is for a metal snare. Upgraded the throw and put some pure sound wires on it and it’s perfect for me as guy who’s just gigging smaller venues for the most part.

    Nice review! Just acquired my first 90s “Blackrolite” and I excited to get it! I think it’s awesome at all tunings and that finish looks terrific! Gorgeous, as well as unique from everything else out there. I listened to Acrolites from the 60s, 70s and 80s and found that I preferred this one and the smooth silver was more plain Jane style to me. I prefer the low tuning but know it can still sound killer at higher tunings and has the satisfying crack I want my ears to smoke.

    • @NickCostaMusic
      @NickCostaMusic  2 місяці тому

      That’s a great drum to add to your collection. So awesome to hear you’re getting one! I love my 60s Acrolite, though the blackrolite has a slightly different tone that I love. Slightly drier, and s super versatile.

    Had a Blacro and an 80s orange peel I couldn’t get either to sound like my 78 Acro. Didn’t have the same crack or feel. Yours sounds really good especially at the higher tunings. Must have been my inexperience tuning.
    My favorite is my 69 Acro Keystone badge. It just looks and sounds right. I still have the 78 also.

      @NickCostaMusic  19 днів тому +1

      I'm not sure, @KevinCarpenter-ci9wb - I don't use any type of tuning device when tuning drums. What I can say is that the bottom head is the same throughout, tabletop tight to get a snappy snare response. Top head was adjusted with 1/2 turn between each tuning.
