Great video, as always! I must say that i kinda like the new design more and more. But some things, like the vertical stand not being included is really stupid. I do have my PS5 in vertical stand mode. I think it looks nicer that way and it looks like it has been made for it to be vertical. Even though Sony said that it doesn't really matter how you put your console.
Man. Being a game collector can be great. LOOK AT ALL THE BOXES COMPARISON! By looking at designs, you can tell that 2010’s Sony finally found their “identity”. Using so much blue and white in their marketing. Meanwhile around the PS1 to PS3 things where always changing. Like the color of the PS logo. The font of the letters. The PS2 menu was a mushroom trip. Now the PS4 to PS5 feels like a very natural transition. Sure it’s less creative, but at least it feels like they are moving with a Plan!
Great coverage as usual Mystic. The box comparison was cool to see since I didn't realize how huge the OG PS5 was. Also, very interesting that Sony included a USB-C to USB-C cable for the DualSense. I'm curious, has the DualSense always been able to charge via USB-C to USB-C or is that a new thing with the PS5 Slim?
Ahhhh. Here it is The only Slim unboxing Video I want to see. Everything I need to know was in there. That horizontal stand is an absolute joke though.
I actually really like the design of the original ps5. The futuristic look and the fact that it commands attention is a plus in my book. I’m really not a fan of the slim look. The four plates, the fact that the top are glossy and the bottom are matte is not something I like either. And the disc drive attachment is way too pronounced compared to the rest of the console. Only plus of the slim in my opinion is the larger storage straight out of the box.
I hope some custom firmware can accept disc drives without an internet requirement. I refuse to support the revised models until it happens. It’s literally and e-waste ticking time bomb
Thank you for providing an answer to the question if the seperate disc drives are resellable. I wondered about that for a while now. You dont find that kind of info with google so soon into new model launch
As expected, all review units from sony to other UA-camrs have the less noisier fan! While the one you have on your videos is the one with much noise, the fan lottery still exists even on slim model.
The launch model looks better. It has a high end and futuristic design. Large and imposing. I love it. I like that Sony kept the same design language as the launch model at least. So it still looks futuristic. Just not as sleek as the original model.
@@mizt3r_420 No reason to lie. It genuinely is a better design to me. The new model looks cheaper and uses cheaper materials. Removing the airflow grill adds to the cheap look. The launch model is big and beefy and uses better quality parts. Launch model looks better. I will say the new model is not as cheap looking as when I first saw it. Like I said, I like that it keeps the same design as the launch PS5. Some of the sleekness has been retained. I plan on buying another launch PS5 because I like the look of it so much.
@@mizt3r_420How is the slim better. It does the same thing as the original but has cheap metal clips and no rubber feet to help with vibration while playing a disc based game. It is $50 more for the digital version and doesn't come with the vertical stand. It also looks cheap and makes you register the disc drive. So again how is it better?

So stupid that you need to register the drive first. This is terrible for people in rural areas or when the auth servers inevitably go down, making the attachment completely useless. Hoping for an updated revision that removes the restriction
For people that complain that PS5 Slim is not slim enough, just look at the Slim PS3 and PS4 next to the OG ones. For me it's slim enough to consider buying one, it looks like they cut lots of cooling components and plastic to reduce its size.
If your fan has, as in this video, in the center that Mercedes Benz-like x-shape, you have a noisy fan (nidec/delta). If you have a cross in the center, you have a Foxconn which is totally silent. The change is from heaven to earth with respect to noise.
Music CD playback 😂atleast u didn't want say VCR tapes 😂for music that's why we have Spotify for BC games why would sony even do that would hold the console back
The local Gamestop manager said apparently the detachable drive has an occasional online check in required even after registering the damned thing. Sorry. If true then that's bullshit. DRM needs to go away. I mean I understand why they do it, but even requiring the registration is nonsense.
The original model is just much better than this revision of the PS5. In fact, the PS5 that I have is the original model with the disc drive and was manufactured in February 2021, 3 months after its launch. The biggest problem with the Slim revision of the PS5 in my opinion is that the design looks really ugly and uninspiring compared to the look of the original model particularly with the line that runs across the upper portion of the console. They also made the upper top portion glossy while the bottom portion is made of the usual standard material, and the problem with the top being glossy is that it will get scratched too easily. Another problem with the Slim revision of the PS5 is the online check-in requirement for the disc drive. Understandable since Sony has to comply with DMCA laws and with the disc drive now being able to be attached and detached at will so, they enforce this check-in requirement to make sure that the user is not using unauthorized third-party disc drives with the PS5. However, if you skip the network connection process during setup with the disc drive attached, it will warn you that the disc drive will not work unless you connect it online and register the disc drive to your PS5 along with requiring an update of the PS5 System Software if you had not updated it already. They should've just enforced this online check-in just for movie playback and still have it read PS5 and PS4 game discs much like on the PS4 where you have to connect it to the internet to enable offline disc movie playback without having to connect the PS4 to the internet each time you want to watch a Blu-ray Disc or DVD on your console. This will cause a problem long-term when Sony eventually shuts down the PSN servers for the PS5, meaning that these disc drives could become electronic waste without issuing an update to allow for local pairing of the disc drive. Another problem with the Slim revision is that a multi-purpose stand is no longer included with the console out of the box unlike the original model which shipped with a multi-purpose stand out of the box so that you can position your PS5 horizontally or vertically. It only includes a horizontal stand. If you are people like me who always want to place our PS5 vertically, well too bad, you will have to purchase a vertical stand separately for $30. If you do not have a PS5 yet, grab the original model while you still can before the inventory of the OG model runs out.
I adore my OG Launch PS5 but man it’s such a behemoth on my entertainment center.. Ended up actually grabbing the slim today. Retired my launch model and it’s now sitting on my display shelf, lovin this slims form factor but not so much the glossy top panels lol..
@@GM-Shenmuewe will see I don't see the point in releasing a new more powerful console. Also are you a Sony executive how do you know it's coming out 😂
While I will say that the online pairing for the drives is a bit annoying, I do really appreciate that they are easily interchangeable. The drives don't appear locked to a specific console, meaning you can reuse a drive from a borked console or just swap in a new drive if the old one breaks which is actually extremely nice for repairability since disc drives are one of the moving parts that may fail over time, and sending in your entire console for repairs kind of sucks.
@@Overqualificationdoubt it - the most “significant” advertising I’ve seen from Sony during the lead up to release was the ease of repairs/swaps with the portability of the new setup. I ended up with a completely digital console with my first PS4 due to the drive failing & it not being worth repair - I was heading on that path anyway, so it didn’t affect me in a meaningful way but it was certainly frustrating.

Nice! Mystic coming through in the clutch. I’m so glad I own a launch day disc edition, a 1100 series digital, and got a 1200 series disc model earlier this year.
You destroyed the myth that the disc drive is mated to that console for life. So, if the disc drive becomes damaged over time. It is replaceable. Good to know.
I feel like Sony split the console cover in half so if you want to remove the top and give your console/fan more air you can and then still have half of it with a cover.
In 20 or so years when the servers for PS5 go down this disc model is just going to be e-waste. I can still plug in my GameCube from 2001 and play any games I own for it, I don't know if we will be able to say the same for these consoles in the future. Otherwise my digital is amazing , cool quiet and slick looking . Still prefer the “Fat” design over this slim one 🤙
I'm curious whether the HDMI 2.1 bandwidth will increase from the current 32Gbps to 40 or 48Gbps or stay the same With 4K 120Hz output, the current model outputs compressed YUV instead of RGB output Thanks !!
I have to change the 4K transfer rate to -1 to stop my games from stuttering on my LG C2. However some games does disable the 120hz mode. So I set it to 1440p to fix that.
Would have been great to see a comparison of box and console between this and the PS4 Slim, its closest cousin. Also the PS4 Slim was the best version of that generation, quiet, light, and really played some amazing games. Great to see at least the drives are easily interchangeable, at least as long as the Sony servers are available.
You can't expect a console as powerful as the PS5 to be completely silent all the time. As my PS5 slim is a little bit louder (4db🤭) when installing games than my friend's large PS5 (reading a cd - I just wait for the game to install and it's quiet👍), but again a tad quieter when playing games and running cooling. This is perfectly fine by me (plus I have a 2 year warranty and I also find that almost every ps5 owner has this sound so I'm not alone)👍😊 Just enjoy playing and don't pay attention to the little things... it's much better than if for example, the console kept getting stuck🤔 In addition, I wish all the guys all the best for the new year 2024😊 Greetings from Czech Republic🙋♂️
I'm glad the coil whine seems much improved. That's my biggest gripe with the OG model, let's hope it stays this way with the PS5 Pro. Otherwise I don't like the stand solution with the Slim at all, no rubber feet is ridiculous and probably part of the reason why the disk drive seems so much louder.
I've noticed that the cooling fan on my slim is quite a bit louder than on any of the fat models that I've had, I have it sitting about 2 feet from where I sit, I could almost never hear the fan on the fat models and I can instantly hear the fan on the slim as soon as I start up a game.
Thanks for your time King. Nice job. I bought the Slim even though I have the Launch Series with the Mega Heatsink + Lots of Performance Mods. I played inside the console but never played with it.
The OG PS3 will always be special
Lmao you gota register the drive bollocks
This PS5 slim just reminds me of a pair of Jordan's from the 90s because of the gloss black and white.
10/10 coverage my man! Thank you so much.
As always, thank you for a great review Mystic! 👍🏼
Best slim video I've seen by far. Great work as always Ryan! :)
Always able to

Ahhhh.
Here it is
The only Slim unboxing Video I want to
see.
I die everytime you rotate these consoles on this desk unprotected.
I hope some custom firmware can accept disc drives without an internet requirement. I refuse to support the revised models until it happens. It’s literally and e-waste ticking time bomb
That check in is for legal reasons. Sony legally has to comply with regulations.
@@frank234561 and I will rip that regulation out with CFW in the future I hope.
This is the only Playstation channel I trust
Thank you for providing an answer to the question if the seperate disc drives are resellable. I wondered about that for a while now. You dont find that kind of info with google so soon into new model launch
Separation of plates looks better with white plates and that black line on the middle is good
Very good video "Mystic. I agree with you said about the differences on the model. I love the futuristic look of PS5s 👏
😢😂😂😂 the slim is better , stop lying kust cause you have the old version
@@sankofaafari4374 bigger isnt always better, plus the size of that is too phat like ps3 at launch. With that alone it wins. Same performance same internals but as you say it does look a bit less however thats opinion and well you can always put a skin or change the covers etc saves me space am getting the slimer sleeker and less bulky ps5
I picked up the MWIII bundle yesterday and also grabbed Spider-Man 2 and Jedi survivor physical copies.. Out the door for everything was $630! Pretty good deal.
Old design is just overall better. Rather have just seen a shrunk version then change the profiling of it
It literally is a shrunk version. Where's the 'profiling' here?
The disk plate is more aggressive, far less of the collar, different shaping of the sides in general@@fasoooli2751
17:27 looks good with that light :)
I really enjoyed the box comparisons.
Best video on the slim I've seen, gonna get myself one when they're available
So stupid that you need to register the drive first. This is terrible for people in rural areas or when the auth servers inevitably go down, making the attachment completely useless. Hoping for an updated revision that removes the restriction
Glad the OG Playstation channel took some time to do an unboxing of the ps5 slim.
For people that complain that PS5 Slim is not slim enough, just look at the Slim PS3 and PS4 next to the OG ones. For me it's slim enough to consider buying one, it looks like they cut lots of cooling components and plastic to reduce its size.
It’s not a ps5 slim though. It’s the new ps5
If your fan has, as in this video, in the center that Mercedes Benz-like x-shape, you have a noisy fan (nidec/delta). If you have a cross in the center, you have a Foxconn which is totally silent. The change is from heaven to earth with respect to noise.
Good stuff man!
I would buy a PS5 Pro if it added PS1-PS3 backwards compatibility and music CD playback.
Music CD playback 😂atleast u didn't want say VCR tapes 😂for music that's why we have Spotify for BC games why would sony even do that would hold the console back
@@TheUniversalGamer87sorry, I like to own my content. Maybe that makes me old fashioned.
As a PSVR2 user, the PS5 Pro is what I’m most looking forward to. 🤞
The local Gamestop manager said apparently the detachable drive has an occasional online check in required even after registering the damned thing.
Sorry. If true then that's bullshit. DRM needs to go away. I mean I understand why they do it, but even requiring the registration is nonsense.
Why can’t more UA-camrs be like Mystic?
They should've released this in black. The separations in the plates look so awkward in white.

No separation of plates looks better with white plates and that black line on the middle is good

One of a few PS5 Slim reviews without a cheesy clickbait title 👍
I love that it’s smaller but I’m happy with my big show sized ps5
I adore my OG Launch PS5 but man it’s such a behemoth on my entertainment center.. Ended up actually grabbing the slim today. Retired my launch model and it’s now sitting on my display shelf, lovin this slims form factor but not so much the glossy top panels lol..

Thank you Ryan. Excellent as always. I will miss this slim refresh and buy the PS5 PRO when or if it comes out.
It's not coming out so stop saying you will buy it instantly on the day it comes out like a good little consumer
@@GM-Shenmuewe will see I don't see the point in releasing a new more powerful console. Also are you a Sony executive how do you know it's coming out 😂
I believe a pro will come out. It’s foolish financially for Sony not to do it.
PS5 slim might actually fit on my TV stand
While I will say that the online pairing for the drives is a bit annoying, I do really appreciate that they are easily interchangeable. The drives don't appear locked to a specific console, meaning you can reuse a drive from a borked console or just swap in a new drive if the old one breaks which is actually extremely nice for repairability since disc drives are one of the moving parts that may fail over time, and sending in your entire console for repairs kind of sucks.
A new software update will most likely change this lol
@@Overqualificationdoubt it - the most “significant” advertising I’ve seen from Sony during the lead up to release was the ease of repairs/swaps with the portability of the new setup.
I ended up with a completely digital console with my first PS4 due to the drive failing & it not being worth repair - I was heading on that path anyway, so it didn’t affect me in a meaningful way but it was certainly frustrating.
I'm so glad you finally got the slim version. Wow, not one but two, but although I get it. Awesome unboxing video and hope you like the new model.

Perhaps one of them is for someone else.
Nice! Mystic coming through in the clutch.
I’m so glad I own a launch day disc edition, a 1100 series digital, and got a 1200 series disc model earlier this year.

@@wrenboy2726For all the rooms in my house. 😂
You destroyed the myth that the disc drive is mated to that console for life. So, if the disc drive becomes damaged over time. It is replaceable. Good to know.
I feel like Sony split the console cover in half so if you want to remove the top and give your console/fan more air you can and then still have half of it with a cover.
The disk drive thing is horrible, without online you essentially have a cool brick
Omg thank you this guy just saved me lots of money I thought you had to be online at all times to use disc's
Did you still have to pair the disc drive or is that only if you buy the disc drive later on?

In 20 or so years when the servers for PS5 go down this disc model is just going to be e-waste. I can still plug in my GameCube from 2001 and play any games I own for it, I don't know if we will be able to say the same for these consoles in the future. Hope some hacking group is able to find a way around the online drive registration.
Wdym, you’re able to play digital games completely offline, I just did yesterday
@@Superbad22 it’s in this video, you have to register the disc drive with an Internet connection upon first use before being able to play anything offline.

Interesting how the PS5 slim calls back to the OG PS4 design with a glossy top panel and matte bottom when both are vertical
.
I will keep my model of the digital wich I got a few weeks ago. Waiting for the Pro to maybe think about upgrading if it has some sort of boost mode for the 1080p gaming like 120fps for many tittles we have. Otherwise my digital is amazing , cool quiet and slick looking . Still prefer the “Fat” design over this slim one 🤙

@@xbuggativeyronit’s happening. Same people that leaked this console’s ability to remove the drive leaked the Pro. Makes perfect sense.
I'm assuming that at 15:53 Mystic just forgot to change the header from the slim back to the OG PS5? That looks like the OG PS5 to me.
I'm curious whether the HDMI 2.1 bandwidth will increase from the current 32Gbps to 40 or
48Gbps or stay the same
With 4K 120Hz output, the current model outputs compressed YUV instead of RGB output Thanks !!
Apparently it’s no different which is hugely disappointing

I like the detachable disk.
Thank you for testing swapping disc drives between consoles. I was curious what happened when you did that.
I'm glad the coil whine seems much improved. That's my biggest gripe with the OG model, let's hope it stays this way with the PS5 Pro.
Otherwise I don't like the stand solution with the Slim at all, no rubber feet is ridiculous and probably part of the reason why the disk drive seems so much louder.
kinda got use to the coil whine but its nice to see the improvement although this slim isnt too promising compared to previous ps slim models
I've been following your channel for a long time, always on point to get useful information from PS world. Thank you Mystic.
I've noticed that the cooling fan on my slim is quite a bit louder than on any of the fat models that I've had, I have it sitting about 2 feet from where I sit, I could almost never hear the fan on the fat models and I can instantly hear the fan on the slim as soon as I start up a game.
same here, i have both and the slim is louder then the fat 1200, i will return it and keep the fat one
Thanks for your time King. Nice job. I bought the Slim even though I have the Launch Series with the Mega Heatsink + Lots of Performance Mods. I played inside the console but never played with it. Never found the time. But still bought the Slim on the first day I dont know why and I was looking to sell my modified one but since I saw your video I cant get myself to sell the OG and Refund the slim that is still sealed with COD inside. I feel like I need both. The launch one is rare and is the one worth more in materials value out of the box. Sucks to be me. Im not rich and I dont know why I need 2 PS5 while I dont play.
