    Hmmm ... ProRes is 10-bit (inching slightly into HDR territory). Unfortunately, computers, graphics cards, monitors, and TVs are still mostly 8-bit (including all of my own systems). Once HDR is more commonplace, I will move to HDR in my uploads. Until then, I will work to make 8-bit video look as good as possible and stick with uploading 8-bit MP4s.

    Thanks for the info. One thing that stood out to me is that you're able to get grain in your uploads; I've played with various sizes and intensity of grain added in post but it always seems like UA-cam processing includes a denoise step which cleans it all up. Any tips?

And whether I export my video which is encoded in 1080p 60fps in 1440p or in 4k the quality of the video once exported on UA-cam does not change! See even getting worse! For my part, I record my games with obs studio but I really don't know how to go about it in terms of throughput and export settings. If someone has the solution, it would help me a lot! I've been on it for over a year 😭 Thanks in advance !

      You don't need to go above 360p or 720p while recording. Make it simple for yourself. The higher the resolution. The more data you need for quality. The higher resolution, the longer it takes to upload on UA-cam. Just stick with a 16:9 resolution. 360p will fit on a 4k TV. 720p will fit on a 4k TV. 1080p will fit on a 4k screen. Now to help eliminate some of that data to upload on UA-cam much faster. Use a app called handbreak. This will compress your videos to help upload faster. If you wanna use 360p as a main resolution. You can sharpen up the quality or you could upscale with handbreak as well if that's what you want. Basically you can record in 360p. Upscale and compress the footage, then quickly upload. I'm just giving some suggestions. You don't have to listen. 360p or 720p is what I stick with. They both fit on 4k TVs. Fix the quality with handbreak app.

      @@hiversam Handbreak does a really great job at sharpening bad quality videos. If you wanna use your native 640x360 video and "not upscale" at all. Use the settings. "Sharpen/Stronger" and place "RF" all the way to the right side. After you render the video, you will see every detail in crappy 640x360 like it's not even 360p. That's how good the sharpening tool is.

    This is a waste of time because I checked your video stats, and the codec and compression is like everyone else, UA-cam won't change it. It doesn't matter how high you go, best way is to avoid post processing on youtube if you already processed the video, just follow the youtube recommendation and you will avoid post processing up to the quality recommended. If fact, if you go higher, youtube will applied a VBR processing that might end in a worst result. Your 1080p for instance is just 2247k of bitrate, pretty low.

    • @NickBrengle
      @NickBrengle  Рік тому +7

      I respectfully disagree. I’ve done the tests and uploaded different file types and codecs. It does make a difference absolutely when uploading in a prores format to stay as close to your original codec as possible.
