Anything by The Moody Blues: Tuesday Afternoon, Question, Legend of a Mind: tribute to Timothy Leary(flute solo), Dear Diary, So Deep With You, To our Children's Children's Children, Watching and Waiting, Melancholy Man, The Story in your Eyes, Driftwood, The Voive, Long Distance Voyager, Gemini Dream, Your Wildest Dreams(phenomenal video), and sequel to Your Wildest Dreams is I Know You're Out There Somewhere, 22,000 Days, Keys to the Kingdom, Satvit with Love. There are still others but these are the known songs often played in their concerts. They were always known for a traveling band and not necessarily a recording band but they recorded so much music in the spans of over 30 years. But their real experience is hearing them live. Is anything off the album Live at Red Rocks concert would be a great opportunity for you to be introduced to The Moody Blues.

I've always understood this song as a meditation in 3 parts.
Part 1: Despair. "Same old song...". Nothing matters, what's the point?
Part 2: Lamentation. The violin represents weeping, someone crying at the futility of life and how death awaits us all.
Part 3: Catharsis. "Don't hang on..." Yes, the same fate awaits us all, but that makes what we do NOW even more important. Be good, be kind. Don't get caught up in the trappings of life like material things. They all crumble to dust just like us.
This song is so beautiful and timeless. Many have commented on how short it is but that is also part of its message. Life is short.
I'm 50 and I've listened to this songs hundreds of times over the years and it still rings true and brings tears to my eyes. That is rare in this life. How ironic that a song about nothing lasting can be so enduring?

Well said. Sometimes when I get a little high (I'm 68, retired from active duty with some problems) and sit in the yard at night in a simple lawn chair looking at things, I get a little sad thinking what this song represents for all of us. Then again, it makes me smile at simple pleasures.

“Meaningless! Meaningless!” says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.” What do people gain from all their labors at which they toil under the sun?"
"All go to the same place; all come from dust, and to dust all return."
There are about four more that sound the same, but you should get the point.

If you do a reaction to "Nights in White Satin", be sure it is the long version which times out at 7:28 for the studio version. It has some poetry at the end, where the single version doesn't. The London Festival Orchestra backed up the Moody Blues on this entire album, so you have a full orchestra.
And congratulations on your new baby!!!

Some might not realize it at first but this song is devastating, it’s the saddest most heartbreaking thought- just how insignificant we are. Just a drop of water in an endless sea…” it slips away, and all your money won’t another minute buy… all we are is dust in the wind. Is it depressing or beautiful, is it a lesson? To cherish everyone and everything but… don’t hang on.

I'm 55 years old, born in 1968 and grew up in a musical family around a bunch of musicians in the live music scene in Houston at the time, with all the great music of the 70's (and 80's and 90's) and it's SUCH A JOY to see all you young folks discovering and enjoying it now! Thank you for sharing your experience with us and giving us a medium to relive it as well! The nostalgia is intense!! 🥰💗 And I'm exactly the same way, my 3 favorite instruments are piano, acoustic guitar and violin (the strings in general, cello is great too). They're mesmerizingly beautiful. And I LOVE the horns! I need to hear me some Chicago after this. And you're spot on about the variety. Back then, every album would come out and there'd be the heavy rock and the ballads on the same album. The ballads were SO GOOD from those rock bands. If you haven't heard them yet, you've got to listen to Whitesnake's "Is This Love". One of my favorites from college!! 💗
