I think the point of this part in the series is that very fact. Its not anything new to any of the wiseguys, but as soon as it gets spilled out; tony is more concerned about who leaked it, not the joke. And because silence is so important its not accepted. But because ralph is such a good earner he cant be clipped. I think its just a phase to show how at any time something can come out of what seems to be nothing and that everyone apart from jonny sacks was in on the joke.
No, the thing is that paulie snitched ralph to Johnny about his wife joke and hence he got mad, while all the other ones were making same remarks without Johnny acknowledge, ralph was just collateral because of paulie frustration towards his crew, so he wanted to stick up to Johnny ass and switch sides by saying that to him
Tony actually covered himself. Says that's the guys wife so he could say hold on that's a bit much if challenged by John. He also doesn't want to appear uptight in front of his own guys hence the laugh.
I always liked John. He seemed to have a bit of class......he was still a ruthless gangster.....but he had a sense of honor when it came to family.
