  • I'm slowly learning how to make UA-cam videos. It takes a while to figure out what information is important and what isn't - so I did my best with editing but the video is still 16minutes sorry!!
This is the Colmanara Catatante 'Pacific Sunburst' - long on my wishlist for its amazing orange flowers. It had a rough courier trip to my house and was virtually unpotted on arrival.
It looks to be a near flowering size orchid with 2 mature pseudobulbs and 3 new advanced growths.
Please let me know what part of repotting videos you find helpful or not helpful. I hope to create more interesting videos on orchids over time :)
    Happy Growing!!

Me too, I like your channel. Am in southern California, btw. Looking forward to more videos. There are a number of really nice orchid channels , I am learning a lot, different things from different people, varying preferences & ideas, and so forth!! Fun. 🌱💚

Patricia Lux thank you!! It's so encouraging to hear people enjoy the videos so far. I absolutely love the orchid channels on UA-cam but I always stress that I'm no expert! Orchid forums and articles are a really great source of information too :)
But yes I also love seeing how everyone does things differently for their growing conditions and it's all just a bit of trial and error I'm finding ! 🌺

Nice repotting. I like the idea of putting leca with the bark and the rest of your mixture! Thanks for sharing.

I bought so much LECA on eBay last year then decided semi-hydro wasn't for me in general, so have a lot to use up. But it really opens up the media so it's worked out well!

Very happy to have found your channel ☺️ I’m in southern Spain close to Gibraltar and have not ventured into making any videos but have a substantial collection and just admire your diving into the video making thing... love how you do / have your grow space and I do not see anything ‘amateur’ here 😊 very much looking forward to more of your videos 👍🏼 thank you for them

Thanks for the lovely comment Nina! Totally made my day :). I love watching other UA-camrs and their videos played a big part in developing my obsession for orchids. Everyone seems to do things a little differently and what I really love is learning from everyone's experiences. I love being able to contribute to the orchid community and hope to spread the passion for this awesome hobby!

@Ezra Joel I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm.
Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.

Hi Dee, you pot a bit like I do. I try and stuff media into the centre, most of it usually falls out, but at least a bit stays there. Just lately I’ve begun to use a media called Profit. It’s a finer coir mix but drains really well. A lot of people in Perth are going over to it for moisture retention as it gets so much hotter here. Our climate is very dry and often daily watering is required so anything to help reduce that helps a lot. The plants seem to like it.

I haven't heard of that brand before and wasn't able to google it. But does sound great. I have to put sphagnum in most my mixes otherwise i just can't keep up with watering in summer

Orchie Dee. The last 2 days I have been helping a friend repot her Cymbids. We must have done more than 50 between us. It takes so long to pull a plant out of bark and clean it up. The last couple we did were in the Profit mis and it literally took seconds. It just fell away with a shake. Repotting them was the easiest too, we just to make sure we pushed the media down firmly. As fine as it is, I was still able to pick a big plant up by its leaves without pulling it out of the pot. Look out for it, it’s a big block of brown media which you reconstitute in water.

Hi there would you be able to tell me if I should cut the old flower spike off this spices of orchard?

When soaking and watering do you just use tap water for all your orchids? =)

    • @OrchieDee
      @OrchieDee  5 років тому +2

I do at the moment. But I am getting an RO unit soon. When I moved into my new house last year, the tap water was about 80ppm which I was happy with. There has been quite a bit of construction around the area and about 6 months ago we lost water for a day. When it came back the tap water has stayed around 200ppm.
So I use tap water, but I don't think it's the best. Pure water is better if you can use it, but not all of us have easy access to it, so you just do the best with what you have!
