- My interpretation of the Airwolf vs Airwolf 2 dogfight from season 3. Different music (HX1 theme) some new sounds for some of the weapon and some changes to the sequence of the fight, some footage taken from the Redwolf test sequence earlier in the episode. Also some additional muzzle flash effects,

Anybody complaining about the cheezy special effects - take the following into account (and BTW - this goes for other shows like Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers etc).
Consider that you can SEE the problems with the special effects now for two major reasons:
1) You have the luxury of services like UA-cam, or even hard media like DVD/Bluray etc. And you can rewind any number of times you like to confirm "Did I just see something strange there?" When these shows were on at the time, VHS was JUST becoming a common thing and most people did NOT have that luxury. They just watched the shows as they were and stuff could slip by. (And the effects people knew this and a little "slop" was allowed in order to get the shows aired on time).
2) The resolution of TVs then was NOWHERE NEAR what we have available now! For the sake of argument, let's assume you're running on 1280/960 widescreen (which is more or less the lowest common denominator in the tech as I write this). Now - take that video above, and not only don't run it in youtube's "theater" mode, not even "Standard" mode. No - reduce it to 1/4 of even standard mode! See how tiny that is? Now, blow THAT up to the scale of a regular 4/3 TV screen. Yeah - it's grainy as hell by our standards, right? But that's what people had as standard resolution back then and were used to. So the stuff like the laser beam? It actually looked GOOD at that resolution!
When they did the "special edition" version of Star Trek: TOS about a decade ago, they didn't just put in new special effects for the space shots. They cleaned up the whole thing and digitally removed things like the VERY OBVIOUS make-up lines around Spocks ears and face that you can clearly see with the higher resolutions we have now. And that was 10 years ago! They're going to have to do it AGAIN sooner or later. LOL! :D
I'm not trying to do the "get off my lawn you kids don't know how well you've got it" kind of thing. But you gotta take these things in the context of the time it was made and appreciate it in that POV.

It was a drama that I loved so much during my elementary school days. I could not see it on air, and I could not feel my heart all day long when I went to school.
Really tightens everything up. Less cut away cut to talking cut to actio nsnippets. Then again they had to fill out time somehow.
I love that you had in there an early attempt at Hawke to just end the whole thing immediately rather than portray Hawke as just toying with his opponent. Even if he is the far better pilot, that's still a madman with a weapons platform and there are non combatants in the area that can get hurt.
Did anyone else notice... when Redwolf exploded, there were landing skids?

They built great helicopters in the 80s.

Excellent!!! I also noticed the additional "sparks" around 1:23 from bullets bouncing off AirWolf. Also at :32, this is the only time I think I've ever seen AirWolf miss a target with an ADF Pod missle. Excellent work. I hope you like the ones I've done as well.
8 years and no Airwolf fan mentioned Hawke's miss when he tried to shoot down a series of nukes headed to washington DC? That was a fantastic scene!

I love how logically done Hawke was in 0:28. He just like... "Let's do it... let's just end it here" *pushes missile launch button*
And i love how here Harlan really proved (atleast) why Redwolf is an Airwolf 2, it can evade Airwolf one
The first missile shot was really just me trying to up the tempo in the scene, might remake it at some point and try to include the verbal jabs in the original scene, as well as using bluray footage to make for a cleaner image.

Now I'm wondering whatever I saw in this.
Even as a kid this episode had huge potential but undone by the fact redwolf is just a regular bell 222. No weapon ports, except maybe the single one on the bottom. Finally why does that guys chin stick halfway out of the helmet?

it's not a glare shield, it's a HUD.
I miss the banter between these two. Also, would somebody please explain to me why both of them look behind them during the dogfight. There are no windows back there.
Was thinking the same myself just the other day about them looking back like there was a window at the rear of the cockpit to look out of. 😄 If there had been a rear view camera with a monitor in Doms area that hawke could see it would have made a bit more sense

@mclarenv12 I just pass it off as better technology allowing the weapons to be inbuilt into the chasis with no need for the pods to be revealed
better than the original, some issues with continuity at the beginning, otherwise excellent
HUGE CONTINUITY PROBLEMS. I watched the first two episodes only. As far as I'm concerned, there is no season four.

This edit surely makes for much stronger scene. My only issue (and a big one) is the aspect ratio being stretched. Good work otherwise!
Yeah, done that and it didnt hold up well vs the preview version where it was standard.

I thought the weapons were operated from behind the pilot that Dominic sat. Not from the pilot seat. Both are flying solo, no one in the back seat. We'd hear Hawke tell Dom to pop a sunburst, among other defense/ attack operations.
They are operated from the back, but that was disregarded for that episodes ending battle.
@@gerv55 Maybe emergancy measures. Optimally the RIO would operate secondary systems to allow the pilot to focus on flight and threat assessment, but obviously there being no way for a pilot to react to threats if, say, the RIO is incapacitated or absent would be a fairly massive liability.

Actually by the final season the original Airwolf helicopter had been sold. All flight and fight scenes from that final season were clips from earlier season
Season 4 yup, season 3 the helicopter was sold off just before the end of filming when they already had the footage they needed.
In support of your statement, None of the aerial unit went to Canada. All of the SAG Pilots got residuals from all of the stock footage we shot during the first three years. Us camera people get no such residuals. Stunt men who sit it the doorway of helicopters with rubber guns and rifles make a pot full more of money than the aerial cinematographer.

Because the helicopter portraying red wolf was rented out, they couldn’t do any modifications to it besides a repaint.

When it was destroyed it turned into a different chopper! Wow. The editor of that show should have been fired.
Wasn't really the editors fault, they were under massive pressure to get the shows out as fast as possible from the network that was airing it. If they didn't have an explosion effect that matched they just had to run with whatever was available.
